Not as much a sob story as a request for advice

TL;DR: OP wants advice from people who have successfully dealt with depression. Downvote and move along if not interested, thanks.

I usually see posts from people offering to talk to others who are depressed; however I see none tonight, and I would like some advice.

I have always struggled to a mild degree with depression and anxiety as a child, but it has never really held me down... until recently. I have achieved a lot in the past two years in terms of my academic career and weight loss, but realizing that my goals are physically impossible to accomplish, and my life has not noticeably improved despite my prolonged efforts has brought a lot of suppressed feelings to the surface. My perception of myself has gotten worse, and I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to push it aside, bury it, or fix it. I am worried that it will begin to interfere with my day-to-day life in major ways if I don't find a way to feel good about myself again.

I know that a lot of imgurians here have struggled with and overcame depression, and I'd love to hear some tips, so that I can work on improving my perception of myself again. If you are not interested, just downvote me and move on please. I'd rather this post disappear in ten minutes anyways.

Make sure you're eating properly, not just witholding food. That can really screw with your brain chemistry.

I usually skin a few people and sell their kidneys.Sometimes that's the only reason for me to leave bed all day.

It's ok to feel sad if things suck at the moment. If you are feeling nothing or feeling hopeless for weeks, then talk to a professional.

Live a regular life, have a healthy diet, sleep enough, daily long walks, stop using alcohol, drugs, coffee, nicotine. The first steps.

"I am worried that it will begin to interfere with my day-to-day life in major ways" indicates you don't have a serious depression yet.

The first thing that comes to my mind is physiological help. For me it worked, for my wife it worked and for many many others.

IMO, focus less on introspection for awhile and find some activities or hobbies you enjoy. Good work on the weight loss!

As simple as it sounds (and I know its really not simple) but finding one specific person you trust and can be open with about things helps.

I do this with my mother, but she can't really respond outside of telling me not to think like I do. My close friends just change the topic
