Not that bad we just have to evacuate

Oct 30, 2019 2:22 PM

So fuck me right?

Things can be replaced, lives can’t. Just make sure you and the family are safe. Good luck @op

Can anyone propose a realistic solution if given 2 days of time to defend your house?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Against this kind of fire? GTFO, if its gonna hit your house, and it's made of wood, it's not gonna survive.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Welcome to CA

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Didn’t rake the undergrowth enough, I’m sure.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

there's gotta be a foam of some kind you can just spray over the side of your house and yard to temporarily proof it

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Take pictures of everything for insurance purposes

7 years ago | Likes 153 Dislikes 3

Videos and pictures. It's amazing what a video will capture that you didn't think to take a picture of.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Make sure you have contents coverages. Sometimes the premiums only pay for the home or apt damages and not the contents.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Tradesman here, will confirm. Pictures are magic. They fuck with you too much, lawyer time. Lawyers scare them.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Serial numbers and receipts if you still have them. Grab photos, important documents, hard drives with photos/computers. We pray for you.

7 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

If someone were to buy insurance now, would it cover tomorrow's fire?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No. There's gotta be some clause in the contract banning this type of behavior

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just lost my house to a flood. I wish you well and I'll pray your life gets as close to normal as it can be as soon as possible

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know Utah just sent a good amount of rigs and fire fighters to help. They should get started today. I’m sure other states are there too.

7 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 3

Other countries have been know to send help as well

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Wow my state did something decent? Color me impressed!

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

Arizona sent 100

7 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Yanno, I will never understand people who live in CA & have lost at least one house to a fire when it happens every year. Like, I’d do every

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

thing I could to get out of fire alley. It would probs be less hassle in the long run. I get some people can’t, but if you lose your house

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

1x a year then spend a few weeks-months homeless w/ no belongings.. how is that better financially. Idk.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Fellow simi resident?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Be safe!! Sending ? ♀️??!!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I spent 10 minutes trying to figure this one out

Thots and pears...? ♀️??.

When I had to evacuate my house because massive fires were 1000ft from my house I got a write up for not giving enough notice on my call out

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope your insurance doesn’t try to screw you and that your family is safe

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good luck! I know my parents just got power back, and my brother just got his evacuation lifted.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dont worry too much. I lost my house and all of my belongings to Hurricane Harvey. You can always replace materials, not your loved ones.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well.. Get as much of your favorite shit as ya can carry and live life on the road! ?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Serious question: why not turn on sprinklers around your house to make sure the area is wet before the fire approaches?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Myself and my aircraft are working our butts off for you. God bless. Be safe

Take a quick video walking around your home and get as much stuff recorded. It will come in handy for insurance and proving you owned it.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm assuming you're towards Calistoga if you just evacuated. Should be fine. Winds are calmer and half of cal fire is here.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As others have already said, please stay safe and let us know that you're okay!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ayeee, my classes were cancelled too ? ?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mhs?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in college

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why you need to burn parts of your house slowly over time so it builds an immunity to bigger fires.

7 years ago | Likes 830 Dislikes 4

I did a lol

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Vaccinate your house.

7 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 2

Or legit controlled burn a large patch of land around your house so it has a fire break

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That sounds funny, but for undergrowth, grasses, and debris it is true.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You're thinking of bullets. For fires it's apparently turn off all the lights, I guess it thinks nobody's home so it goes elsewhere.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. Charcoal is the best choice to fight fire with.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Blow up your neighbors houses and leave all sprinklers running, also open up fire hydrants

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Checkmate Vaxxers!

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can also set your neighbors houses on fire in a controlled manner so the big fire is deprived of fuel and doesn't spread to yours!

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

So dark! Not saying I wouldn’t do it, just saying it’s dark.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At first, sure. Once the fires take hold though that shouldn't be an issue anymore.

Our area was threatened by huge fires a couple years back, I was amazed they were able to protect the homes, not a single one burned. GL OP

70mph winds here today, California is on fire - fortunately I'm in an area that can't burn. Be safe @op

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

honestly, when is California not on fire anymore?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Start running your sprinklers continuously, it worked for a homeowner in Kansas when wildfires threatened their house

7 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 4

PG&E cut off power to many places so the water pumps are not working in a lot of places.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So people aren't getting running water to their homes? If they are you can manually turn on sprinklers at valve boxes

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hope that guy’s insurance agent bought him a beer.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No, no, no. If everyone leaves their sprinklers on, it wastes the water, leaving less for firefighters. Also a fire will evaporate 1/?

7 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

small streams/surface water well before the main fire gets there. Follow advice on defensible space and leave the water for the pros. 2/?

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

to effectively defend you're home. Source, been a California wildland firefighter since 93. 3/3

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

what if you are using well water for your irrigation?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Firefighters will use many water sources: pools, wells, tanks, hoses, etc. The fact is, sprinklers are about useless in structure defense.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Please notice nowhere does it say to leave your sprinklers on.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

It's generally a good idea to hose down your roof and run yard sprinklers before evacuating (time permitting), but...

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

...we don't all have underground sprinklers, our own well, and a generator.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, it isn't. Before a fire front gets to the home, the single digit humidity and winds will have dried any sprinkled water. Keep 1/?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

your house cleared to defensible space standards , get out, and leave the water for the firefighters. 2/?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

so what state are you in that closes schools on fire days?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Southern California. Fast moving fire, spreading thanks to hurricane force winds

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

isnt everyday fire day in cali?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, just the entire month of October and part of November.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe hose down the yard and house really well? Like soak the crap out of it. I read a story a while back about how a wet yard either saved

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

http://www.californiachaparral.org/bprotectingyourhome.html this says soaking reduces stray embers catching. Not prevent it. So some > none?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Please notice that says with an independant water supply.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Someone’s house or at least minimized the damage. Assuming it doesn’t have time to dry up first...

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That wouldn't do much against the 90 mph winds that were going in in california. Fires were starting up to two miles away.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

nah, the temperature of the fire is too damn high, the water evaporates when the fire touches it. I was affected by Saddlerridge fire.
