10 Free Unique Browser Games!

Oct 20, 2016 11:29 PM

1) Kingdom of Loathing

One part text based, one part drawn on MS paint. Kingdom of Loathing is an rpg that I'm not even going to try to explain. If you think this is up your alley, it probably is. At least stick it out past the tutorial and get a taste of the game, this one is definitely worth checking out.
https://www.kingdomofloathing.com

2) A Dark Room

I'm going to quote the source I used to find this game, reddit user Kintaro08 "I was absolutely addicted to A Dark Room. Don't look up any FAQs or hints or anything. Just roll with it and discover every part of the game yourself. It's a unique gaming experience you can only do once."

He is not wrong. http://adarkroom.doublespeakgames.com/

Someone else recommended using this at the same time. Also not wrong. http://www.rainymood.com/

3) SUPER. HOT. SUPER. HOT. SUPER. HOT.

TIME MOVES ONLY WHEN YOU MOVE. Now a fully fledged game available for purchase, if you haven't played this yet do yourself a favor and check out the original prototype which is still available on browser. Worth noting this one requires Unity (I know, ugh, worth it though). http://superhotgame.com/

Does anyone recognise this footage?

(gif is from the full release)

4) SUPERHOTline Miami

You guessed it, all the slowmowyness of SUPERHOT combined with the top downyness of Hotline Miami. If you enjoy these things you're in luck because there's a full game as well called SHOOTOUT Inc.
https://albatr.itch.io/superhotline-miami

SHOOTOUT Inc.

This one isn't browser based, but it's the full game based on SUPERHOTline Miami so I thought I'd include it. It's 70mb, available for download here. https://albatr.itch.io/shootout-inc

5) Contre Jour

An atmospheric physics based puzzle game. Move by manipulating the environment around you. Tbh I'm not a fan of most of these in-browser physics based platformers, but this one kept my attention longer than most. Almost definitely better while stoned.

http://www.contrejour.ie/

6) Parameters

A unique rpg stripped down to just numbers. Black squares are quests, yellow squares are bosses. Surprisingly satisfying.

http://nekogames.jp/g.html?gid=PRM (click ENGLISH)

7) Frog Fractions

"Just keep playing and you'll see what I mean" - reddit user ZincHead

Seriously, just keep playing. http://twinbeard.com/frog-fractions/

8) Winnie the Pooh's Home Run Derby

"Winnie the Pooh's home run derby. Its like Dark Souls, but with baseball." - Shits-McNeil

"how is this a game for children." - dirtydela

"Motherfucker Piglet throws 'em like lightning." - rukestisak

"This game is responsible for me saying sentences I've never thought I would say before. LUMPY YOU MOTHERFUCKER I WILL SHOVE EEYORE'S TAIL UP YOUR ASS FOR THAT BULLSHIT." - TurMoiL911

http://lol.disney.com/games/winnie-the-pooh-home-run-derby

9) Candy Box 1 & 2

"the best ASCII-driven, browser-powered, candy-based RPG I’ve ever played" - Graham Smith

..just go check it out.

1 http://candies.aniwey.net/
2 http://candybox2.net/

10) Fallen London

"A browser-based choose-your-own-adventure game set in "Fallen London", an alternative Victorian London with gothic overtones."

Basically like living inside the world of a penny dreadful. I absolutely adore this game for what it tries to be, I only wish it didn't utilize the adventure point system so I could play it in longer increments.

What, no Corruption of Champions?

I thought this said "Bowser Games." As a Nintendo fan I am now pretty disappointed.

You don't have enough upvotes

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Kingdom of Loathing is why I still catch myself typing "Zmobie"

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Shit I went from KoL to minecraft. They're still zmobies and warwelfs to me.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I still use "Bonerdagon" at every opportunity.

Man, Kingdom of Loathing brings back some memories. Mainly of how much I sucked at it. 'Twas good fun, though.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Kingdom of Loathing and Fallen London in the same list. It's a good time to be alive.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Kingdom of Loathing is the shit!

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Btw, Candybox 1(2 is great) and Dark Room were the first two idle games which included actual gameplay.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Kingdom of Loathing and Fallen London cast a shadow of greatness over the rest of this list. Even Frog Fractions can't measure up.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

kingdom of loathing is a masterpiece. end of story.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

"You've been bum-rushed by a rushing bum"

The oddest thing to get me laid I was in the computer area at my friends apartment complex because those resisted in the 2000s. Girl saw me

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Playing we started chatting she invited me to come up to her apartment to watch a show about dungeon and dragon players.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I don't remember but they were playing DnD and it was like their characters. The one part I remember was the dude was always standing there

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

OH MY GOD I JUST GOT THAT.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Frog Fractions is the shit. Also weird as fuck.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

My upvote depended entirely on Frog Fractions being on the list. Best free game I ever played.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The fractions get irrational after a while.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I played wave after wave before reading a walkthrough that said for me to swim down instead of shooting the bugs....nothing implied to do so

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

How weird? I don't have the opportunity for awhile

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I was in an underwater cavern riding a dragon while listening to the history of boxing. And then the bug empire came.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Don't know what everyone is talking about. Frog Factions is a real learning experience. Just as the name implies.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You're not wrong there

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Fallen London is tits! The amt of content & quality of writing are fantastic. Add me if you like - I'm "Rutherford Irascible".

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Congratulations on your kitten! I have a lucky weasel. Her name is Nell and she likes rubbery lumps. What's a spirifer?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I deal in the unlicensed trade of souls, selling them directly to Hell rather than through the Bazaar! Illegal, but profitable ????

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I finished A Dark Room. I've spent so much time in Fallen London. I still haven't beaten rabbit. AND WHERE IS FROG FRACTIONS 2, DAMMIT!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

you can actually finish A Dark Room? been playing it since yesterday..

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Finished is relative, I suppose. But yes, there is an end.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm currently balls deep into A Dark Room with absolutely zero signs of stopping. What a game.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a ride. Rainy mood definitely improves the experience too.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

just beat it after...3-4 hours. apparently they keep score, i got 29515 which according to the internet is not great lol

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I aim to try them all out, but I got distracted for two hours on that stupid Kingdom of loathing. I love it.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you like, I can send you some in-game items so you can get distracted for even longer.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah sure! (No clue how that works, but I have the same username). Nothing too amazing. I'm level 4.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Done. Check your in-game inbox. :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Awesome! Thank you very much man.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yup. "F" makes you go faster.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That first game is awesome! Can't believe I never heard of it before.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What's your account name on KoL? I can send you a bunch of items as a starter gift package if you'd like.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I never heard of it either, but it's already highly entertaining!. Can you add friends in there?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kind of. You can add people to your contact list, but that only allows you to be notified if they come online. There are clans, though.(1/2)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Which is probably what you're looking for. That's probably the closest to a friends list type thing. (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you for that! I don't think I've reached joining clans yet. I look forward to it!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks man! You're awesome! ...I also love that they made it mobile compatible! That's pretty sweet

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah dude! U believe it's punkerd

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Done. Check your mail in-game. :)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Woot! I'll have to check once I get settled into work. I'm gonna be playing this on and off all day!!! :D

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A bit more I'm gonna take a crack at those quests. I died a bunch in assassins pirate 5. Lol

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven't quite familiarized myself with the interface yet, and I've only been playing on mobile so it's a bit frustrating. Once I level up

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was looking for a certain text based rpg when I found corruption of Champions. I realized it was not for me when I was raped to death.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It's actually a really solid RPG though if you ignore the sex focus. I especially like the ongoing character creation.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Good games to play at work or school!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Oh Corruption of Champions, you dirty, dirty game. I wish there was a fully animated version of that game.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately Monster Girl Quest will just have to do.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Granted, for what MGQ lacks in creative h-scenes it makes up for in its amazing story.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In fact, you could say they are the TiTS... I will show myself out now.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So I'm not the only one who thought of it.. Even without the NSFW they are pretty fun as RPGs.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

o3o Why is that link NSFW?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If someone says NSFW in the post containing a link or in a reply to the post, the link is automatically tagged as NSFW.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah, thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*eyebrow wiggles*

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

You. I like you.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I just looked that up. Whaaat the actual fuck.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That means two things in those games..

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Good ol' Loppe down in Tel'Adre in CoC... she was always a lot of fun

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nothing like sitting down to play some CoC and TiTS.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Call of Cthulhu is one of my favorites.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I love tits

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Every time I play these, I just gear up, kill all the enemies, and have largely vanilla, ehm... NPC interactions. Am I doing it wrong?

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Not wrong. It's a great game even without the weird shit. Doesn't mean I don't like my 2-dicked h-cup kitsune hermaphrodite tho

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you're enjoying a game then you aren't doing it wrong, even if you aren't playing it the way it was designed to play.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hey man I do the same. Minus the porn it's actually really well written.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's pretty much how I play, I was always horrorified when I got even a point of Corruption in CoC, and worked to get rid of it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Upvoted for Kingdom of Loathing. I haven't played it in forever, but I got years of entertainment out of it.

9 years ago | Likes 602 Dislikes 3

.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was #96.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

A great old one! I was in the 100Ks, and I thought I was old.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I am still in the top 10 of Knob Goblin Pants collected somehow.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Holy fuck I am still #4 for wads of dough. I stopped playing in '07 http://dcdb.coldfront.net/collections/index.cgi?query_value=wad+of+dough

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Display Case for thE_nekO_jimboB (#395578) This player is ranked #666 for Most Unique Items with a total of 1,358 items.

I miss my Bitchin' Meat Car :(

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I miss my bitchin meat sword :p

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This was my game in college...over a decade ago.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Right there with you, there are dozens of us, dozens!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Same. I still check out the Crimbo even every year, but man, I was hard core obsessed with this game from about 2004-2009

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Kingdom of Loathing amazing for what it is, it feels like the kind of game that shouldn't work but does through sheer wit.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just logged in. Memories...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OMG I LOVED THAT GAME. I lost the name though :( Now I found it! I can play it again!!!

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yaaay!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Amazing! Thank you so so much, been looking for it for years actually.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Were you a seal clubber or a turtle tamer?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. But I started as a Sauceror.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed. What a great game.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I heard about it because I was reading about a murderer cannibal who claimed it's his favorite game and played it during his free time.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, majority of players are disturbed though mot all cannibals.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to play SSW, which was an offshoot. It's long defunct but the people were cool.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think I've played that game since... 2005? 2006? Lots of fun though, I was thinking about it the other day... +4 Nostalgia +3 Smarm

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was discouraged at how much content was essentially for paying users only. Sure they need to make a living, just wasn't fun for me

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been on hiatus from it since earlier this year. I should really start playing again...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If anyone wants to try it out, ask me. I think I still have a few million meat (currency) to help out new players.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A winner is you. Boozebear's bloody mary sales. Hell yeah.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Me too. Played for a long time. Not bad at all.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That game is awesome and the convention is always sweet. I haven't played in years either

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am going to go play it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Can't believe it's been 10 years since I've played it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hugely addicted to KoL. Then I was offline for a month while I relocated from Asia to America. When I got back online, my account was gone.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Upvoting to spread my love of pastamancy.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Logged back in thanks to this post. Clan is still there, and Mr. A's cost like 3x as much

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its been at least 10 years since ive played it or even thought about it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same, I played KOL years ago... my account id is in the 400ks. I loved that game and the friends I met there <3

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I was in the 500ks. Everyone was so nice on there. RadioKol too.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

#96.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yea. Kingdom of loathing was fuckin lit

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ditto!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Kingdom of Loathing was my shizzy until I had to look up how to do every quest

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They're better about it these days. Hard puzzles will often have a second way of completing it, slower but easier, for the newbies.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know I loved that game!!!!!!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I figured i was the only one

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Me too!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Nope. I'm always surprised when I see other people who know about it, though.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

I even went to a meetup or 2.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's awesome!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Not as good as it used to be. They reworked a lot of quests so you can just throw Adventures at them instead of actually having to think.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

True, but there's almost always a shortcut if you do think. Options are good.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

True, but it still bugs me. I mean, Twin Peaks is probably the best example. You're given an option that takes you to one of four

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

'cutscenes'. You need a specific item or effect to pass each one. However, after 50 adventures, you get a frigging "Skip puzzle" button.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a more flavorful "Burn the creepy hotel down" choice, but I see your point. The thing is, it allows the game to be as hard as the 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dunno, back when I was playing it felt like they'd added an easy mode for lazy people but kept the hard mode for thinkers. Did it change?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but that's not what I mean. What I mean is that in some quests, you're presented the puzzle, but if you take too long,

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it gives you option to skip the puzzle and move on.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They added challenge paths! You can play as Ed the Undying, and go after the adventurer who beat you in the regular quest 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I actually stopped playing in 2013, so I remember Avatar of Boris and Jarlsberg. Ed sounds awesome, though.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or the other avatars like Boris, Jarlsberg, or Sneaky Pete. There are other paths with different stories too. Worth coming back. Lo

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Look up your character using your email address if you forgot your name and password

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you remember you account information, I would encourage you to check it out again; they've added so much content into the game now.

9 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 1

I GET SO CONFUSED NOW. There are more levels! More things! I feel like an out of place old timer.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Even when I played regularly I felt like I had to keep a guide open to get from ascension to ascension

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I remember my user name, but not the password or which email was associated with it; it's been probably 6 or 7 years

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I tried getting my old account back that had the Mr. thing, it's not there any more

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought I lost items before but they were either in my closet or the case thing.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you sure? They stopped deleting accounts for inactivity in 2009, and I'm pretty sure they always protected accounts that has Mr. Items.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think I stopped playing back in 07 or so

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you had a Mr. Accessory then it's definitely still there. Even when they deleted accounts they never deleted accounts with Mr. A's

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Anything since they started up with seasonal paths?

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

This thread gives a good breakdown of new things: https://www.reddit.com/r/kol/comments/3ihgwm/overview_of_changes_over_the_years/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Several world events, special IOTM charters that open up elementally themed zones among other things, depending on when you were last ingame

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

What are iotm charters?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ah, terribly sorry about the ambiguity; Items Of The Month- there were 5 such charters items you could get over the last 2 years that 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I played from 2004-2013, with only a couple hiatuses. Was a fun game, but got tired of botters in MMG.
