Absolutely. I ordered some oak for a woodworking project a year ago, and only just got it. It'll be another 6 months at least to acclimatise to my house. And that's with them kiln drying it to force it to dry out a bit faster.

(Or incredibly needlessly complicated FIFO system if you're the Dave that went to my church as a kid). You can often get wood good to burn same year, however, if you cut it down, cut, and stack it before spring(Less water in trees during winter and split wood dries faster) depending on your exact climate, weather, and storage methods.
I'm unclear on all of it, except the part where he had this woodshed he inset in a hill to give it two 'floors', and restacks it every year to put the new wood on the bottom then takes from the top... and it's a lot of needless work, really.

As several other people have written it depends on the kind of wood and how you dry it. I cut my firewood in early winter, split and stack it in racks made from pallets so the airflow is good and it's ready to burn next winter (10-15% moisture). 99% of what I burn is birch. Throw in some kindling made from dry spruce and it'll catch fire pretty much instantly

It's more of a rolling cycle. You cut wood now and store it, while you're burning (or selling) wood you cut 6+ months ago.
