WONT SOMEONE THINK OF THE MILLIONAIRS ??? THOSE POOR POOR PEOPLE

This is called For the People.

'targeted' is the wrong word....held accountable is the truth

Jimmy McMillian didn't win the race, but his team is finally doing better
Shade169
doesnt really change the fact that the scumbag has 5100 apts to rent

The landlord also agreed to fix 3500 of the 6500 building code violations, inspections indicated that there were 12000 violations discovered after the 3500 were fixed... Good work land lord!
SumOneElse
This company just completed buying the properties from the old shitty landlord who went bankrupt. They went into the deal knowing they were buying a 93 disasters that needed major work. Unless they were stupid I'm sure they budgeted for needing to fix a lot more problems than were officially documented. A tenant with several problems is going to scream about the ones they want fixed most of all if the old company is dragging its feet while keeping quiet about the others. Now all are in play.

Just when I started to like him, this came out, and now I really like him.

Lex Luther being targeted by Superman agrees to give back and forgive Metropolis for embezzling funds directly into his bank account.
TheDoctorCrankenstein
Yea. The headline is such bullshit.
orthodoxorthography
Yay, real estate discourse!
Dunno how it is in the US, but in Europe, the same socialists complaining about housing shortages and rent squeezes also choke construction through insane regulation and inflate demand through immigration.
Fun times 🫶🏻
mistertheloaf
Another reason why Republicans hate him.
ropetopus
“Targetted by” LOL. Like there’s some personal beef instead of competent leadership holding repeated bad actors accountable.

Buddhism has a special court of punishment specifically for landlords in the reincarnation cycle.

He's doing good work! We need more Mamdani's in politics.

buying debt should be illegal.
Sensiblyinteresting
It's insane that the debt Is sold for pennies on the dollar. It should be illegal to sell a debt and not offer it to the debtor. A hospital will sell a $50,000 medical debt to a company for $100. That should be offered to the person first
MauroMolinero
only in America! land of freedom only for the rich.
letmelurkinpeacepls
Every time I see a Mandani post I want to remind the public how hard he makes rich assholes seethe. I work at
a big 4 accounting firm and I want everyone to know how often senior management bitch about him for being “anti capitalist”. The bad people are hurting because of him, to all of you fighting the good fight I want you to know this.

This is what a representative with empathy and compassion, not that other shit coming out of the White House.

Next stop: The White House! We can do it! Unless the Orange Turd hasn't torn it down by then.

A person is a landlord. A corporate owner is an overlord. Get your terminology right.
circlebreaker
Even without all of the refurbished socialist/communist/progressive discourse about landlords, I can't think of any other type of professional other than cops who I'm constantly wishing would swallow their tongues and put the rest of us out of their misery. I've met one single reasonable, genial, non-sack-of-shit landlord in the multiple decades since leaving my parent's place, and only one didn't try to fuck me during/after tenancy. A pox on them all. 1/

what's weird is I rented 1986 - 2011: room in a SFH rented out by a 90 yo lady who'd live there since the 1920s; half a room as roommate with the condo owners' college son; corporate apt; subleases; 3F unit where the LL was on the 1st floor; housemate of a childhood friend; then lastly a corporate apartment.
so most of my rental experience was face-to-face and a real win-win, the LL was actually adding to the housing stock and we both benefited thereby. The corporate experiences sucked tho.
futhor
"The company Summit Properties purchased the 93-building portfolio" yeah I think that's a problem right there
SumOneElse
More specifically, they just completed buying the properties from the old shitty landlord who went bankrupt.
MenloPart
I can't afford 1/93th of one building! We needed to save up for a tiny free library!
pr0t34n
Ok cool, but what's the asterisk for
SteveTheEgg
They are basically letting landlords off their back taxes to help the renters. Some people see this as slumlords getting paid off, which isn't completely untrue, but at the end of the day it's probably the most the mayor's office can get from the situation, because chasing down the taxes will be an uphill legal battle, and at least it helps the actual renters.
I am probably just online too much, but my conspiracy theory brain says "the man" is against Mamdani and will escalate any complaint.
EngorgedPhallus
I think they are implying that the title of the article should be what they put as the title of their post.

There were questionable circumstances regarding some of the points earned that season, but they let it stay on the board.

In the Before Times, when we made a spelling/grammatical error, we'd do it liek this.

I'm used to the before before times, the long long ago, when an asterisk meant a caveat

Back when the pound sign was a pound sign ;-;

Excellent. Fucking rent sharks must pay.
youreathing
This is a new company that bought the old LLC. I completely agree, but they aren't the sharks in this specific case.
Sensiblyinteresting
They are literally scalpers but for places to live instead of tickets to events
PostMoThoin
The term in economics is actually 'rent seeking' and describes not providing any benefits to the society

I prefer housing scaplers and I mean that as a slur

Parasitic Landleeches.

Scalping, incidentally, is also rent seeking behaviour

The more we get candidates like this into office, thr more the DNC will change. This is how the Tea Party turned into MAGA. We can do this. Find a candidate in your area, and help them.
Loctavius
Fuck the DNC. The Democrats are a center right party. True leftists like AOC and Mamdani just need to run as DSA members. We are growing fast, with over 250 DSA members in local, state and federal offices now.
Rhythmaster
I like the DSA but until you get ranked choice voting, trying to advance a 3rd party will only split the left and empower the republicans... so as far as I can tell, first we elect enough progressive democrats, get ranked choice voting, and THEN other parties could actually have a chance.
CatskinnerKeen
Do. Not. Split. The. Vote.
Sallavar
MAGA - GOP - DNC - DSA Split them both.
SploogeMcDuck316
The practical move though is probably to change the DNC from the inside out. Though I get your sentiment, fighting on 2 fronts just gives the Republicans a better chance. Keep voting in more progressive members until the center right politicians get phased out.
thetonestarr
We do this long enough to get FPTP phased out and some form of ranked choice in its place for most federal positions, and we can absolutely start focusing heavier on DSA.
WynnieFreeze
The thing is though that it also means you have to stop voting in the centre right ones, instead of just Voting Blue No Matter Who, otherwise you are giving the party exactly zero reason to replace them
DukeDarkwood
This is what the primaries are FOR, yes. The people of New York City have proven that you can get a decent progressive to become a Democratic nominee. And, as the saying goes - if we can make it there, we can make it anywhere.
"Vote blue no matter who" is for the general elections, when it's one Dem nominee vs. one Rep nominee. But in the primaries, we get to pick who represents "blue". We need to use that power.
Until the GOP implodes. Then there will be a party vacancy, and the progressives
Megadestructo
If we get ranked choice voting EVERYWHERE we'll see a marked shift in American politics that better represents the actual people.
