I grew up fascinated with this beast. Models, books, posters.. finally I got to see one. I'll admit that the rest of the museum was pretty damn awesome as well, but this.. this was frickin awesome to see.

Gorgeous machine. They have one at the Air Force museum in Dayton, OH if you happen by there. Admission is free and they thousands of other, very impressive air and space displays.

This one is free to see as well. In the Smithsonian in Chantilly, VA.

Coincidentally, the one in LA is also a few minutes walk from a space shuttle.

The only surviving “B” variant two-seat training jet. I live about 10 minutes from there — incredible to see and touch. My kid even licked the nose wheels 😂

I kind of bugged my wife about needing to plan some road trips.. just have to find things she'll enjoy along the way as an excuse.

Don't know where you're at, but if kzoo is within your road trip range, it's a nice little museum. Their F14 Tomcat is a beaut. I swear it looks more airworthy than the ones I've seen in the air. But also not too far away from it are both another SR71 and an A12 (and a million other things) in the National Museum of the US Air Force in Ohio, too. That place is amazing.
