This is what got my sibling. He found 4chan around 2009. I remember him saying, 'oh yeah sometimes there's CP uploaded but I don't look at it. I'm only on /b.' He explained how sometimes moot would broadcast this insanely bad music to push the 'cancer' off the website. I was never really sure what that meant, but I thought 'why would you hang around a website like this?' Around 2012, he stopped coming out of his room and spent most of his time online by himself, on 4chan. He's a goner.

That wasn't ambivalence. That was testing the waters. You don't jump STRAIGHT to mass murder death camps. People might object to such an overnight change. You criminalize it, you deport people for it, then imprison people for it, and THEN you start executions. (You may or may not start with smaller executions before going to death camps. It's not much a distinction by that point, anyway.)
