As a kid I would see these in the store at the Piggly Wiggly and was young enough to think some of these covers were real. Sadly, the last time it was ever sold in stores was August 2007

Ah. Trump’s morning Cabinet Breifings.

Man I miss this paper. Used to pick one up every so often for funsies, and to catch up on Batboy

Part of me wishes that they were still going, but honestly they'd have the same problem that the Onion now has in that reality is so much more fucked up than anything they can come up with.

The pre-onion? The sprout?

Luckily, we now have Onion.

This was my all-time favorite Onion article. https://theonion.com/eiffel-tower-finally-completed-1828892259/

I remember the Weekly World News next to the checkout line at the grocery store... I always thought it was supposed to be satire, like Mad Magazine because my mother would laugh at the headlines and make jokes about them... I never really looked at it because the headlines seemed like dumb humor... Now we live in the world where all the idiots who believed it was real news voted for this timeline where reality takes a backseat to hallucinatory delusions. Not even Bat Boy can save us now.

As a teen it was when I first figured that there were indeed humans who read it for 'the news' that I knew our species was doomed.

#1 how well does it use its hand?

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bet The Deep knows the answer to that. :)

Remember "My America" by Ed Anger? That's now mainstream political philosophy.

I used to love WWN as a kid. I remember going on vacations to a campground in the early 90s and I'd bike into the nearby town and buy a copy and reading that since we didn't have TV there. I was like 10-12 at the time. This was back when a kid that age could just bike into town and it was no big deal.

We had a teacher in high school that if we brought in a weekly world news on Friday, he would waste the entire class period reading articles from it.

Imagine if this publication had been given access to AI slop generation.

I was hoping to reconnect with Bat Boy, but I appreciate it just the same.

Part of the charm of WWN was how low effort the whole thing was.

I think the stuff they came up with were quite creative. Certainly more creative than todays mainstream movie industry

And the absurdity of some of the covers. There was one about the moon blowing up in 6 months or something and it scared the hell out of me when I was 9 cause my mom just casually agreed with it
