Musk forcing his DOA twitter blue onto dead users without even getting permission from families
So after stripping their verification Elon's making it look like accounts from Chadwick Boseman to John McCain to Paul Walker are paying 8 bucks a month for twitter blue from beyond the grave without even asking their families or estates
I'm sure his idiot tier behaviour attempting to make his DOA fee speech product seem relevant will entice all the advertisers who've fled to return to his failing website he vastly overpaid for then immediately halved in value because of his idiot tier behaviour https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/24/23695534/twitter-blue-tick-verification-dead-celebrities
mrthewhitee
What a fucking moron. He wanted to force the check onto popular people because they smartly refused to pay and never stopped to consider how many zombie accounts still have a lot of followers because no one purges dead people from their follower lists.

You guys should find some better shit to be mad about.
NotSomoneElse68
It's fun. We can be mad about a lot of shit at once.

I just saw his dad made a statement saying that the emerald mine basically funded his entire career in the beginning.. LMAO. he's been trying to shake that story off as make-believe, but old dad had the last word. His old man is a fucking weirdo also.
YOURFRIEND2010
What, do you not marry your step daughters? Maybe you're the weirdo.

I'm terrified my parents are going to watch the news and then ask me to explain who dril is to them. Also
BlairT1
I can’t believe I used to think Elno was smart…
shinagami091
I saw who he really was after calling the diver who saved a bunch of kids a pedophile because he rejected Elons idea of some impractical personal submarine. Once he became a the richest person in the world his douchebag levels multiplied from there and is when other people finally started hating him
theodorebeare
Elno - I like that one 🤣🤣🤣
graehall
Same, I liked it and used it in this GIF I made dunking on him

Seems criminal, like… fraudulent endorsement or something?
mrthewhitee
If I was a celeb I would def be talking to a lawyer about this because it's obvious to me he's only doing this to trick their followers into signing up.
asmasm
Yep, exactly. I read that someone - dril, I think - was looking at suing Musk for this reason
flacoloco
would a fair case of libel be introduced if a blue check mark is given to an account not in a deceased's estate?
YuffieK
"We'll pay you $100 billion to bury Twitter.": Shadowy right-wing Illuminati conspiracy
SteveMND
Due to ever-increasing nonsense and stupid decision-making (and to avoid yet another potential lawsuit, no doubt), he just decided to give Paid Blue checks to everyone over 1m followers, which has led to yet another, brand-new embarrassment in the continuing saga of Musk's Disasters.
CaptCrobar
Is he trying to inflate the number of people purchasing the blue checks or just making a list of Famous people with blue checks?
BubblesTheFish
Lol, fee speech.
graehall
shinagami091
I believe he said he would be restoring blue checks to celebrities. So basically if you want a blue check mark, which Im not sure why you would if you weren’t a celebrity, you have to pay the tax to ole Musky.
Jewdakris
Ok I'm gonna play devil's advocate for a second here so bear with me. Legacy blue checks shouldn't be going anywhere and the idea that people believe someone like Stephen King would pay Elon is nuts. The new check system that gives gold to business but not verified people is a weird move though. Yes I know I'm gonna get downvoted and a bunch of "leave Twitter already" notes but I use a forgotten interface that hasn't been shut down (yet) with no ads and my feed is only what I follow.

You gonna tell me Paul Walker isn't alive and paying $8 a month for Twitter!?
blackmanjim
Holy crap
Feralkyn
Are we sure Twitter's not just grandfathering in the blue check for ppl who've passed away?

Hah!
RandAIFlagg
I feel like you're doing a disservice to any industry that actually has to deal with DOA products. Twitter wasn't DOA, Twitter was delivered whole and in...functional...condition. The buyer received it and promptly started acting like Sid from Toy Story with a fresh new doll.
graehall
Twitter Blue was DOA, not twitter
navagon
The only sensible solution is to delete your Twitter account.
Skizmo
The blue check is turning into the check of shame and will become the opposite of what this clown wants it to be.
mrthewhitee
It's already become that and even musk acknowledges that because he said he's working on ways to allow people to hide their check.
LordofSadFace
It was a glorified NFT the moment it became to pay, so it has been a check of shame for quite a while.
BlueDsc
One of the manga sites I use added an Orange Checkmark for April Fools this year. The amount of shade thrown at Twatter was hilarious.
JustDontCare
All I know is the time is ripe for a good (within reason) social media platform to replace Twitter. I k ow there are alternatives but people should start going.
KillingTlme
A Twitter account is already shameful enough.
HandoB4Javert
RandAIFlagg
The blue check has been the check of shame since it got a price tag.
KuldFyt
It's like the Mormons posthumously baptising people... How does he not get how bad of a look this shit is?
DanOrtega
narcissism does that to you
SteveMND
Oh, he already destroyed any usefulness the Check had. In fact, his newest problem is that the check is SUCH a scarlet letter now that people are mass-blocking Paid Blue accounts to the point where the block lists are slowing down the system. This means that he's having them work on a way to hide the checks on an account if needed so people won't be doing that anymore. Which is SO ridiculous, it's almost nauseating.
OrangeFlavours
Slowing down the system? How? If you block enough accounts to slow down your own feed, but keep using twitter... that's just very stupid
Tootsie1
It's affecting the server performance as well
OrangeFlavours
That makes no sense. It'd be nearly impossible for that to affect performance, unless twitter's built on a fucking stack of legos. Like is this info from a twitter employee revealing how fucked up it's become?
Snookiepoopshoots
Just conjecture, but I could see how it's at least plausible. Seems like something that could easily happen when an action is using a sub optimal data sorting algorithm. Their original algo probably never intended a million people maintaining lists of every blue check user on the platform, and started choking when each users feed got filtered against an unreasonably sized exclusion list
Snookiepoopshoots
Sorry if I'm coming off slow to this news...but theoretically speaking, the point of spending $8 is to get the check mark right? That would mean the lowest friction process to hide the check mark would be to cease payments of $8, right?
SteveMND
Well, yes and no. See, in his infinite wisdom, Musk decided that if you had a Paid Blue account, then your tweets and such would get preferential positioning -- basically, you're now buying your visibility. This means most of Twitter's comment chains now are swamped by Musk fanbois, crypto bros, and right-wing racists who find 8 bucks to be an absolute steal to get their crappy messages out. Some folks, though, (like journalists, etc.) need that exposure to even be able to work properly. And >
SteveMND
< other folks (mainly big celebrities/accounts) who have been "gifted" the Paid Blue do NOT like that they have had it forced upon them, because it's not something they can disable, and it fraudulently suggests to others that they are paying for the service when they explicitly are not.

Anyone else feel he is doing all this on purpose? It’s all too bizarre, there has to be a reason.
Cargobiker530
Imagine a 240 lb three year old with $160 billion dollars in assets & zero people he actually respects or trusts.
SinStar87
As others have said it appears to be for false endorsement. That's on purpose. Like what do you mean?
shiftingbits
That would require actual thought on his end. He's a floundering trust fund baby who has decided he can be a big boy and run things himself and what we're seeing at Twitter is the direct result of him not having anyone around to say "no." That dude is deeply insecure, makes decisions on a whim and has terrible leadership skills.
MagnorCriol
'Don't mistake incompetence as malice', or however the saying goes. I know what you mean about it being so bizarre, and it's easy to see something there, but the reality is that he's absolutely incompetent at leading and managing and has been propped up by a bubble of paid helpers & sycophants all his life. It's far more likely that he just is finally "on his own" here, emboldened by some self delusion, and thinks he can just make it work by doing his "creative" ideas.
