My hobby still is books in English
Bit of a jumble as I'm doing spring cleaning & running out of space to put things while I sweep & scrub.
To me there's nothing quite like real books. Sure, I have the internet and do read a lot online but a book somehow is shutting out the world rather than being immersed in it.
Books are really expensive though and English-language books are difficult to find where I live. So I take what I can find in the second hand book shops which often is nothing.
I set up an English book exchange (bring a book, take a book) via MeetUp and it went well until the pandemic. It’s not worth the price anymore.
The difficulty of finding books in English though means that I don't always have access to what I most want (science-fiction/fantasy). This also means I branch out into other genres, and that's not entirely a bad thing.
I feel like I should read the Richard Dawkins (and I will) but lately I've been more into escapism than the real world.
If you have any recommendations of your own please share them (though I probably cannot find them for myself but I still like knowing what's out there).

I have a collection of over 1000 now so I guess that might be my hobby as well never thought of it that way. Of course its much more affordable here. I buy books in lots sometimes to save money, but that gives me dupes and as of Feb have no friends to give the duplicates to. So if you would like I could ship you some, hate to see books siting unused.

Thanks! It was wishful thinking on my part but DIsney keeps teasing that they will reboot the franchise (but I won't see it if they do as Disney isn't available for me). I much prefer your explanation of my moniker :D

I'm no luddite (hell, I've built every computer I've ever owned) but physical, paper books can not be replaced. Too many memories of ditching the world around me and escaping with Adams, King, or Herbert. Too much nostalgia re book stores and old libraries. You just cannot beat the tactile feeling of a real book or that book-smell

I agree, though I have felt like a weirdo lately on the buses/metros when I pull a book out to read instead of my phone but an afternoon at a bookstore or library is a treasured activity - Adams is one of my very favorites and tomorrow is towel day! :)
