Millennium Actress and Sword of the Strangers are my most favorite anime movies of all time.
Additional: Metropolis(2001) by Osamu Tezuka(which i found here) and A silent voice.
sushiqueen
“In This Corner of the World” if you want to see a lovely/calming/touching story about life in Hiroshima during WWII
HighVelocityBurntToast
Tekkonkinkreet, great movie
NorwegianForestCatsTheFluffIsReal
I myself also liked "The cat returns" from Studio Ghibli
Tarlon
Jin Roh is better than like 90% of all movies regardless of medium.
OneNeoEon
Didnt they make a live action version relatively recently?
GeekusPrimus
"Anime is not about weirdness!" (Promptly throws Nausicaa and Spirited Away onto the list.)
StonedVelma

Needs to be updated to include some recent great works (Your Name, A Silent Voice)
TheBurritoConfederacy
I thought The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was recent (as in last 3-4 years). Just looked it up and was shocked it was released in 2006...
TheDaharMaster
I wanna watch more anime but they all seem to center around a kid in middle school.
sloanPHILLIPS
What about A Silent Voice? Shinkai would want it to be included
Mordy9
I’ve mentioned in description below post
25schmeckles
That one would be on the top row for me
iAppdata
And to favorite and forget you go.

Tales from Earthsea was trash, Fight me.
Effehezepe
No. Though I'm a fan of the books, so I'm pretty much automatically biased against them
Effehezepe
Hell, even Ursula K LeGuin didn't think it was good, and told the director it was not her story. Also, why was everyone white?
SnarkyScience
I think Miyazaki was a skilled artist. But I’m not really a fan of his work.
Genini
Redline is great. That is all.
jennym123
I kinda feel like Redline is less of a movie and more of a Studio Trigger inspired drug trip.
GoodGuyGabers
Princess mononoke is my all time favorite movie. Its amazing.
LesserSam
I've yet to see a work by Shinkai that didn't move me to tears...on that note, I'd add one of his earlier works, "Voices of a Distant Star."
LesserSam
Also, on a completely unrelated note, "Time of Eve" is phenomenal... It's an OVA, though, so I'm not sure if it belongs with all the others.
thecorrupterx
I love how time played into voices, such a good one.
Effehezepe
People who like Akira should also read the manga. It was made by the film's director, and is much, *much* longer.
Effehezepe
Also, people who liked Nausicaa should also read the manga. It was made by the film's director, and is much, *much* longer.
Butane9000
Jin Roh, biggest bait & switch of the early anime days.
StonedVelma
Don't forget Kiki's delivery service
AeonsShadow
NO KIKI?!
SQLdragon
Hunter X Hunter, excellent story for boys and men.
ThisMayBeMyLastPost
Porco Rosso!
CheekyBreeki
Yep. Fio is the best Ghibli heroine.
blackreaper201
My favourite Ghibli movie and probably Miyazaki's most underrated.
MikeF1982
But the cheese is the best part...lol. Personally I typically enjoy it if it makes me laugh, otherwise it bores me and wastes my time.
dangerousDoc
Kon is a master of weird shots and amazing transitions. Hollywood directors have been copying him for years
Excalus
to dispel any doubt, Black Swan was basically a live action take on Perfect Blue
Shjohn
Where is a silent voice?
Woolytop
...Man, Paprika was a trip, though.
mylesrunner
Akira wasn't crazy for you?
Woolytop
I actually haven't seen Akira.
Excalus
Also the hollywood movie Black Swan is pretty much a live action telling of Perfect Blue
phoenixht1
Grave of the Fireflies, for when you want a kick in the emotional balls worse than the intro to The Last of Us.
darsparx
unless you get mental preparation like I did and then you don't tear up because you're literally expecting it to be sad
DigiT00l
Yhe movie was a biopic, the original writer suffered greatly from survivor's guilt
iNeed2P
One of the best films I ve seen, will never watch it again.
Tinkrr
Well, I know what I'm watching this weekend. D:
ErkTheJrk
Bringing it up after watching, no matter how long it takes, will always be "too soon."
Myoldaccountsrevenge
That makes me want to watch it even more
brandsilven
I have only read a basic synopsis of the plot online. Even *that* made me tear up. Yeah...
OmenJones
Regardless, my favorite anime of all time.
Productofyoursociety
I didn't care for it, seemed like all he had to do was go back to work and they both would of lived.
MoonyT
While most people disagree, that was actually the main point the creator was trying to make. they would have lived if they respected elders.
apneax3n0n
no. nevermore.
onecowboytoo
Grave of the Fireflies is a heartwarming tale of a girl and her love of rice.
excepttheoneswhoaredead
Worse than the intro to Up
HickoryDickoryDuck
In This Corner of the World, will punch you down a couple steps further
OmenJones
Added to my watchlist.
Bumbledumplings
Watched when I was 14, fucked me up for life
DraconisNoir
Likewise, I watched in in the 7th grade, so 12-13. Like someone else commented, I remember parts of the movie, and overwhelming sadness
Blinklink7
Seriously. I bare;y remember the details anymore, just the sadness.
ThisMayBeMyLastPost
This is one of few movies that made me wet my beard.
p75369
Unpopular opinion: I didn't like it. Spoiler below.
p75369
Since we knew they were both dead right from the start, there was nothing unexpected, there was no hope, just a count down to death.
DigiT00l
Irl, he survived, he wrote the book, that was actually him and his sister, be suffered from survivor's guilt
SamaelTheVenomOfGod
Honestly, that's the point of the film. I fucking hated it. It's still an amazing film.
Excalus
That's exactly the point. It gets at you bleeding away the happy knowing they're going to die but not quite knowing how. Not a campy flick
WaxyNips
It's about the journey, not the destination
CheekyBreeki
Child deaths are not unexpected in war.
Rex83ll4t0r
I can only kick myself I the balls so many times. Owning it in bluray hurts so much.
Elysiacc
Your name!!
missingdodo
missingdodo
Well, in all seriousness, it is a good film. But not that good.
disruptivedecimal
I thought it was just a general body swap thing, but the twists had me hooked, very good film
HighVelocityBurntToast
Yeah where TF is it OP?
AquilaJM
Joey. What's yours?
Tacomassacre
I just rewatched it a few days ago and forgot a few of the heart melting scenes and teared up all over again. Such a good movie 10/10
helpiaccidentlybuildashelf
First movie to make me cry man tears
IDontActuallyHaveUsername
SwiftyRich
Yeah, this list is old, Your Name is surely in the 1. Slot
McGreed
Agreed, it was the first thing I was looking for. I can recommend watching the live performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M40SBBsSCIA

Hadn't seen that before, thank you. Love this movie so much

REDLINE
Zigor22
I saw an edited version on YouTube. I loved the music and Jbs voice, but didn’t know it wasn’t the original. Now I don’t like it as much.
joyouspopsical
What’s the link?
Zigor22
I had it favorited and it was a rather low quality video, but the user got banned for copyright issues. His voice sounded like Vash/
Zigor22
The Stampede. The music was the beginning race. I’ve tried looking for it since. Sorry :/
SylphrenaTheHonorSpren
a anime movie list without redline is heresy
Hybris51129
Mordy9
I will add to my list.

Neat art and music. Just put your brain in the backseat.
ProcrastinatingWork
Hell yes! I recommend this one for audiophiles who want to check out how good their home theatre system does sound effects
DigiT00l
Forgot Howl's
Ninalaroo
It's in the bottom bit of text.
IsDisassembled
It's listed in the final paragraph.
Zigor22
The voice of Howl is Christian Bale
Lrgp39
And calcifur Is billy fucking crystal

What a monster uses English audio?!!?
PjJonez
I have the reading skills of a 1st grader so me. Although there are a few shows I cant do in English like one punch man. I actually never 1/
PjJonez
Knew what was going on because I could never read the subs and it was still good and I got the gist from their acting :)
Muffinburgler
When the english audio is well done. In Howl's case the actors did a fantastic job. No reason not to listen.
Tlis
Shh. Let people enjoy things.
Lrgp39
Exactly,I hate getting shit on because I like the dubs
Tlis
Right? It’s why I stopped watching most anime and talking to people about it. Who cares how I watch it, damn. God forbid I can’t hear well/1
Zigor22
All Miyazaki films I’ve seen were in English. Some are just terrible in sub, like DBZ. Others are better in sub, like Konosuba.
LanceSackless
Ive tried the subs on ghibli stuff but its always got such damn good dubs i cant help it
xVVitch
The ones who can't read subtitles fast enough...
