Hear me out...
Not all games should be remade....but some (imo) were so enjoyable or so ahead of their time....that to deliver it in today's graphics would be incredible.
Some that come to mind.

Rune
Ultima Online
Command and conquer red alert
Final Fantasy 7 (Don't even go there with the remake)

but in all seriousness, I would probably buy a pure remake of FFVII that just updated the graphics, assuming it came out or a system I own. likewise for a number of other games from the PS1 and 2 eras. in fact I DID buy remakes of the Spyro and THPS games for the Switch, and played the hell out of them. or that matter, there ARE NES games that I'd like to see updated to SNES level graphics, like Final Fantasy Origins did with FF 1 and 2.

EQ and UO are still going. EQ2 is releasing a new server wednesday that is original 2006 version (or as close as they could get at least). Theres also a few good EQ private servers. As for UO, if you havent seen it, check out the outlands server. Its much better than live and has a very strong player base.

I was so disappointed when I paid full price for the Mario RPG tLotSS remake, and the graphics look great, but hardly anything else was updated.
If they aren't going to update gameplay as well, they shouldn't be able to charge full price for it.

I mean yes and no... they'd come back with DLCs, microtransactions, always-online functionality, shitty tutorials, etc. A lot of these games were passion projects for small, dedicated crews, and they were broken, janky games but were just memorable because of the soul put into them. No modern remake could capture that soul. I promise you'd be disappointed no matter what.

No thank you. If studio executives had enough taste to tell which ones deserve a remake, we wouldn't be where we are today. If we encourage more remakes, for every one good one, we will get over 7,000 more garbage failures, which is more dev layoffs, which is fewer good games.

You bring up a good point. At the same time I also hear that there just isn't enough for artwork frequently. Nothing more depressing than having the same graphic for some awesome weapon as a trash drop
In EQ you knew what was being worn by looking at them. Sure a few shared models...but a lot of unique )

EQ is still running, and they've done amazing things with the game engine. But if I were rich I would absolutely buy up old IPs and remaster them. Sacrifice would be at the top of the list.

I dunno....I mean value could be for those wanting nostalgia...and than loading it up and beaming it on an 82" TV while settled in their living room....it just doesn't feel quite on.
Now if it was in today's graphics....nothing else touched...period...story line / quests...I think there may be value there.
Id love to introduce my grandson into some great games from my younger years....

For games like that to still be talked about 20 years later....obviously it was the game itself or maybe the friends you played it with. Either or....the game was successful...and if delivered in today's graphical standards...I think it could sell.

I'm not saying I don't want the same thing, but what I am saying is that "selling to nostalgic older gamers" isn't really the market that game companies are trying to sell to. They would rather make the next FortNite than re-make FF7 properly.
