Sort of bored by the same bands being brought up over and over again (Arch Enemy, Spirit Box, Jinjer, The Archer) I see them mentioned over and over again on every post, they are all great don't get me wrong but I figured it's time to introduce some new talent that are maybe less well known. I don't research bands so I didn't leave too much information, just check them out if you like metal and haven't heard of them! These all feature women who SCREAM.
BLACK SPIKES - insanely artistic videos and even better metal music from Lithuania
THE PRETTY WILD - Two sisters from Texas. Approachable death metal with poppy choruses
NOT ENOUGH SPACE - Best friends from Florida. Metal with poppy choruses, insane screams
CENOBIA - from Australia I believe, ethereal metal
TAKEVANDRER - black metal from Australia
INDAR- from Spain, all girl black metal. They only have a few songs so far but worth checking out

*Unleash the Archers, and the female vocalist Brittney Slayes doesn't do the harsh vocals. They're currently done by Grant. The power metal Goddess Brittney does all the clean vocals.

To the uninitiated metal fans and music fans, don't go around calling Black Spikes, The Pretty Wild, Not Enough Space "death metal" to actual metalheads. While great bands with some harsh elements and harsh vocals, theyre not death-, they're metalcore. Also Cenobia is not deathcore, it's like alt, metalcore, post-metal. Takevandrer is atmospheric black. Indar is post-black/alt metal. Deadlands is core/post-core. I know it doesn't matter to most, but it does to the heads/addicts. 1/2

It's like selling buds entirely covered in coke to a cokehead but saying it's rocks of coke. That cokehead might still like bud at times, but he will be a little annoyed when he tries to cut that into lines cuz all he really wanted was bag of coke.

Honestly, as a lifelong fan of punk, rock, metal, and all of the various derivatives, the second someone starts talking about how some band or another isn't technically in whatever genre, I check out of the conversation. It's the "um, acktually" of the music world, and these folks are insufferable.

Hell yeah! Testament kicks ass live. Saw them at Clash of the Titans and with Judas Priest and Megadeth both back in the 90s, then with Slayer and Megadeth back in 2011 or so.

The covers on Nemophila's YouTube channel are gold. Not that their originals aren't great -- they're awesome -- but they really let their quirky side out in their cover videos.

I prefer their originals, but I agree the covers are really fun. Dissension is the video that drew me into them and is still one of my favorite tracks they do. And it even has a little whimsy. :)

Love all of them. I'll be seeing Future Palace for the second time in October (first time was opening for Electric Callboy a few years ago), and Ankor are opening for Amaranthe in November, so I'm still deciding if I'll go. I'm not a huge Amaranthe fan, but I really want to see Ankor. Hanabie and Nemophila are Japanese, so rarer to see here in Europe, where I live.

How many times have you seen someone live then become a fan after? Cuz its happened to me many times. Amaranthe has 2 outstanding clean vocalists, check out their acoustic cover of their own song "Insatiable". And it could be years before Ankor tours there again, or the band could split, all kinds of shit happens. I better see you there =p

There's something about Amaranthe that just feels really "produced" to me, just a vibe that's probably all me. But I've seen some of their live recordings, and it just seemed like they're all there, but they're not there together, if that makes sense. Just didn't notice much chemistry. But yeah, odds are good I'll go see it. And do you stalk all their shows, or do you also live near Oslo? :D

I think that style is usually really clean and produced. And sometimes bands can kind of become a machine, especially with 3 singers who want to be precise or lots of members, lots of moving parts, losing members, group dynamics, band leads may be strict on stage for whatever personal reasons and that trickles down to band members, etc, and over time and some bands might get a little mechanical. Not every band can be like Iron Maiden or Helloween.

I won't be anywhere near Norway then, but I have lots of little metal birdies floating around North America, and northern and western Europe in buses and vans and they will sing to me if you were there or not! Imma tell them to be on the lookout for Bork Borkasson!
