Love for the Carolina Eyck & the Theremin... Definitely Unmute

My first introduction to the ever talented Carolina Eyck was her theremin performance of the Diva Dance from The Fifth Element. She totally nails it.

So what else sounds amazing on the theremin? Why... the theme to Severance of course!

Or maybe My Favorite Things if you're feeling in a bit of a festive or The Sound of Music sorta mood? I absolutely love the legato between these notes.

If you've never seen or heard of the theremin before, it's a Russian instrument that involves using your hands (acting as a half capacitor) in relation to two metal antennas (acting as the other half capacitor) creating the unusual tones you hear. You never actually *touch* the instrument at all, which is pretty unique. The movement of Carolina's left hand above the looped antenna controls the volume, while the position of her right hand in relation to the other antenna creates the specific tones. It's a very intriguing approach where your body is literally just as much as part of the music as the instrument itself. (In fact, you have to be careful with other movements because that'll affect the sound too. haha)

I've heard a few folks "play" the theremin, as in make it make sounds and a few melodies here and there, but few have mastered it as a true instrument the way Carolina Eyck has. Totally awesome.
