This poor only has 16g ddr3 ram, and that's only after upgrading a year ago. From 2008 I've been using 6g of ddr3. It's nice having a browser open without my computer freezing.

I picked up 384gb of DDR4 (so last generation) server memory for a project a year ago, keep in mind this is old, used, and can't be used in a desktop.
It's now worth 3x what I paid for it.
Because it turns out Chinese factories have sprung up taking the chips off of these and putting on boards that fit desktops lol

I feel like they've all gotten shittier. Code got less efficient and just put the extra strain on hardware, and that was before AI and vibe coding. Now it's a wonder anything works. I use Firefox now, but it seems just as bad as chrome.

Unfortunately, at least under Linux, you need actual Chrome (not even Chromium will work) for M365 Teams video meetings.

The vast and overwhelming majority do and it isnt even remotely close. Netscape's current browser is in second place with roughly 1/5 of Chrome's market share.

Yesterday, my fuck-ass Samsung browser decided to try and hijack Ecosia's spot as my default browser. I think I put a stop to it, but those apps that come pre-loaded are really difficult to properly disable!

That's a known thing with Samsung, especially their in-house stuff (looking at you Gallery!).
I had an S23 for over a year. Amazing hardware, but I hate OneUI & Samsung software.
Ironically, on my current Pixel, I can remove or disable almost everything except Phone & Messages, even the Play Store can be disabled. Still stuck with the damn Search bar on the Home screen, though. Wish I could remove that.

I still own my S23. Really my only issues with it were that shit-ass "close all" button under the apps that is so easy to accidentally tap, and the fact that when you pull up all apps the most recent one gets pushed almost all the way off the right of the screen.

my water company's website tried to force everyone to switch to Chrome because they didn't want to program it for anything else. For like 4 months every time you logged in to pay your bill, it would make you log out because your browser "wasn't supported" anymore. Hundreds of people called to complain and pay by phone and ran their queue times up for hours because everyone decided independently that they were not switching web browsers for a fucking water company. Now all browsers work again

I use Edge, because that's what I use on my PC and tablets and it means I share all my bookmarks etc and can send URLs, photos and files between devices. On my main PC I have six Edge windows open, each with a couple of dozen open tabs, and it runs perfectly.

I used Opera until it got bought up by the Chinese. Use Vivaldi instead, by the Opera co-founder. Still Chromium based, but without the shit in Opera.

Duckduckgo. You can move your passwords over if you need or just add them back in manually if you prefer but it made all the difference in loading sites and reducing tracking and extras (AI search disabled)

Edge uses Chromium but runs way better than Chrome and doesn't have the restrictions on adblockers, video downloaders etc that Chrome has.

Zen uses Gecko, which Firefox uses. There's also Ladybird with their own engine. Aaaand NetSurf with their own engine.
