What's your dad joke?

I'm never forgiving those piss water peddlers for destroying America with the heritage Foundation.

With soo many established beer brands in Germany every "new" brand is going to have a hard time...

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why should we buy Budweiser when we could buy Budweiser instead?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, it is pretty shitty beer. Perhaps they should learn how to make real beers.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There's a lot of good German brands. They don't need Bud.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kind of dumb, they already have Budweiser (the czech beer which is pretty good to be honest)

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

"There is an ongoing series of trademark disputes between Anheuser-Busch and the Czech company Budweiser Budvar Brewery over the use of the name. Usually, either Anheuser-Busch or Budweiser Budvar is granted the exclusive use of the Budweiser name in a given market. The Anheuser-Busch lager is available in over 80 countries, but is marketed as "Bud" in areas where Budvar has use of the Budweiser name."

3 weeks ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Germans know it’s shit.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which is funny, because Budweiser was originally sold in the US as a German beer. They had all the right lineage and recipes from the Anheuser side of the family, and Busch side was also highly regarded Germans.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How is drinking Budweiser like ssx in a canoe? They're both fucking close to water.

3 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Bud is made with RICE

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Germans don’t like watered down piss.

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

They want their piss *pure* and undiluted.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bud, Heineken, Kronenbourg = beers for people who don't like the taste of beer.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And in Europe you can drink the original witch is an excellent beer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budweiser_Budvar_Brewery. I enjoyed it very much.

3 weeks ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Piss water, bottled directly from a urinal.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Called 'Bud' in Europe because there's already a real budweiser in Europe

3 weeks ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 0

Citizens of Budweis, Czech Republic say the founder of Anheuser-Busch was born there. Also, that he emigrated in shame because his beer tasted like crap.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Assholes made the Czech brewery label it as Czechvar in the US.

2 weeks ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Really??? That pisses me off and makes me laugh at the same time.. Americans are so good at ruining everything lol

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And it's fucking good, as opposed to this shit.

2 weeks ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

people are extremely opinionated about beer, seemingly offended at the existence of beers they don't like. its comic

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Having tried several German beers, I can tell why no one wants The American stuff.

3 weeks ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 2

Having tried several american beers, I can tell you why Germans don't want Budweiser.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

American beer is like sex in a canoe. It's fucking close to water.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Is pish

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It can't be the stuff they sell in the US, they wouldn't legally be allowed to call it bier there, so it must be different

3 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

[citation needed]

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Fair enough, it's been quite a while since I lived there and my most recent memory of attempts were that they were completely blocked until the mid 90s, then if I remember correctly they were the beer of the 2006 world cup and Germans were quite miffed by that. I should say it's a labeling standard as far as what they can market it as. Bud has some complications because budweiser isn't their trademark in europe and the fact that they use a lot of rice in their brewing, imports may have exception

3 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Reinheitsgebot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinheitsgebot

3 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

There's a ton of good beer in the US being made by regional/local breweries though

3 weeks ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 3

No there is notm

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Yeah, but we’re talking about corpo white trash bullshit. Not craft beer.

3 weeks ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Expensive though. Got a beer garden coming up and it's a local brewery and delicious, and I will be treating myself

3 weeks ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

On mug club days its 3.50 to fill up my 26 oz mug at my local brewpub. They have a cask bitter that's divine.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They tried this in The Netherlands as well, with a big marketing campaign declaring it "the king of beer". It's hard to overstate how badly they misread the room in a place where any given supermarket stocks a variety of genuinely excellent beer.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AB InBev, a Belgium company, owns Budweiser. To put it bluntly, most Germans view Budweiser with a mix of utter bewilderment and deep culinary offense. If Belgian beer pushes the boundaries of German tradition by being too complex and experimental, Budweiser offends them by being the exact opposite: watery and flavorless.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Budweiser is crap.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Warum sollte ich einfach Elefantenpisse saufen?

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

you can't sell pisswater in europe and call it beer.

3 weeks ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

well, a surprising number of German beers are really crap. not as bad as this shit of course, but you can better than Bud and still suck.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is, actually, ample room between budweiser and the point of "not sucking"

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't piss in my ear and tell me the phone's ringing

3 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Cheaper than in the states. Fuck we get ripped off on everything

3 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Beer (as well as soft drinks) in germany is one of the few markets where capitalism has actually worked purely because every single attempt to create a monopoly failed. We have way too many breweries here that are all forced to be competitive with each other which keeps prices pretty low. Every part of the market, from the cheapest shit to the high quality stuff, is already saturated with dozens of options. And most of our breweries are older than the US and know what they're doing.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I only visited a few times, but I really liked how the beer selection was very local and kind of a low key point of pride in a way. I frickin love me some German beer the most...And it's not even close

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's how cheap they have to make it to sell any. In the EXTREMELY unlikely event that it ever took off in Germany of all places, you'd see the prices start to climb after that.

3 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Agreed. They'll raise the price any time they can, obviously.

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

US beer is terrible. Not the local regional stuff but the big beer companies just can't make beer well.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

To be fair, that's probably a reasonable statement about the 'export' beer made in any country although I agree that American mass produced beer is very bad indeed. It seems to me that the bigger a beer company is, the more bland and boring the beer becomes. Heineken, Fosters, Asahi, Corona; all fine examples, some admittedly a bit better than others. I blame accountants - the anonymous bean counters who work hard to enshitify products by using cheaper components and increase profit.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The US lost a lot of beer making expertise during Prohibition and settled on 'fuck it, its cold' once it was repealed.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What do Coors Light and making love in a canoe have in common? A: They’re both next to water.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure that shit water isn't Reinheitsgebot compliant.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It isn't. Bud and Bud Light use rice.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not even American any longer. Much like everything else in this hell, it's owned by a massive conglomerate, InBev.

Budwiser is the La Croix of beer.

3 weeks ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 4

Ok so Lagunitas brewing actually sells “Hoppy Refresher” which is a very tasty “lacroix of beer” that is great when I want some beer taste but not to drink a beer (like it’s 2pm and I am working) https://store.lagunitas.com/products/hoppy-refresher-12pk-original

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

La Croix is ok but over priced. I wouldn't even let Budweiser in my damn house.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah. I strongly prefer la croix over bud.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Accurate as hell. Water with a hint of beer, that came from a dirty rag cleaning the bar where it was spilled.

3 weeks ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Someone drank a really good beer.
Then pissed it out, drank that, then pissed that out and that's basically what is in Budweiser.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What do Budweiser and sex in a canoe have in common?

They're both fucking close to water.

Why would Germans drink Bud when they have Kölsch?

3 weeks ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Why would I drink either if I can drink non-watery beer (aka "beer")? (Greeting from a non-Kölsch region of Germany <3)

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why would Germans drink Bud when they have beer?

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just that one beer and the regional arguments are why a genetic American 'beer' will never ever work.
American beer, cheese and chocolate are all fucking terrible and Americans are too stubborn to begin to understand why. Instead of defending the American way find out why we mock you.
Don't defend the new highway, understand the walkable city.

3 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 6

American cheese is can be good. I say this as someone who hates America and wishes it to Balkanize yesterday. But the mass-produced stuff is just not good.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We have plenty of amazing beer, you guys having to experience shit like Bud and being told it's representative of our market is a shame

3 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Small batch local beer doesn't count.
When you compare the good beer to the big batch beers from my country it won't be close. I'm not saying that a black label will be able to compare to a ipa. But beer is not the same as ale.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

as a Canadian, have you ever had Steam Whistle? It holds up to Stella IMO.

3 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The thing is the local/regional small breweries are all essentially derived from Germans and Czechs who came to America. They might be a little spiced up as places get gentrified and trends sweep across demographics but fundamentally, the best you have you is what we already know just fine.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

I'm sure you do. Major breweries just don't make good stuff. The shit exported to other nations are the major breweries, so we only experience the pisswater. It's like if you only experience with Canadian beer is Labatts Blue. You'd think we have no tastebuds.

For stuff like beer (at least in North America), you can't go for the big stuff. Find local brands. Even larger independent ones like Steam Whistle are MILES better the Blue.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I wanna try more Canadian beers but it's slim pickings here. Unibroue is excellent, then we have Labatt, Molson and Moosehead. I can't hate on Moosehead because it's in the upper range of mass produced cheap lagers and my uncle brings it to crab feasts

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah Moosehead is a solid mass produced option. Never tried Unibroue. I mostly stick to local stuff here in Ontario. I'll have to check them out if I see them!

Creemore is also solid. Not sure if I'd say it's excellent but it's my usual go-to. Tastes good and isn't expensive.

Like trying to push Olive Garden on Italians.

3 weeks ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 0

man I haven't had Olive Garden since I was a kid and I'm sort of curious to go now and see what I think of it

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or the times Taco Bell opened locations in Mexico.

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or frozen sushi on the Japanese

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

salmon sushi was pushed frozen onto the Japanese in discount stores and they loved it. In the 80s, Norway had a huge surplus of frozen salmon. they tried/failed to enter Japan's premium market with it. they then tried hitting hitting every day bargain shoppers willing to take a risk for affordability. It being at the discount store made the fish more approachable and feel less forign/exotic.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

/2 the problem with salmon is that it was seen as having the wrong color/taste that Japanese consumers were used to. It was very pink and has a strong distinct flavor. that made it unpopular until they were able to position it as something approachable. Norwegian suppliers took a risk, sold it for next to nothing to the bargain stores who could then sell it very cheaply. Once it became a success, salmon found it's way into premium settings.

or like trying to sell American pizzas in Italy

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If there’s any American Pizzerias still in business in Italy they must be pretty decent compared to what we get state side..

I’ve seen some abominations.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The difference between pizza in the USA and in Italy is huge. To Americans, Italian pizzas seem far too thin from the crust to the toppings. Italians tend to view American pizzas more as a sort of cheese and salami casserole.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So, they used to have a braised beef with tortellini that was actually amazing... they stopped making it.

3 weeks ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Tgif's had a jack daniels glazed pork hock that was devine! They stopped making that too

3 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, people slam these places cuz of their mass-market appeal, but there was seriously good food on those menus back in the day.... hell, even the base salad at Olive Garden was really good (I still make that thing at home).

3 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Everything tastes good when you add 2000mg of sodium to it. But it was good, wasn’t it?

They used to have an amazing carpaccio and I had the most amazing bone-in filet in Boston (and a raspberry gimlet that got me rickety-rickety wrecked)... now, their steaks are just grizzled nightmares... I have had better steaks at local diners.
