There's nothing wrong with performing music written by others - performing and writing are two very separate skill sets. Some artists do both, some don't, but that's not "sad" anymore than directors not starring in their own movie is "sad".
I think that’s part of why she’s laughing so hard? She was a child star presumably just singing whatever her parents told her too. It’s not like this song was her artistic vision
Performers often get shafted too. Like so many other industries it's far too often got corruption at the top-most levels, hoarding the wealth while contributing the least. Keeping the writers and performers such separate entities like that is all part of their plan to divide and conquer.
It's not that you offended racists, it's that you have an outdated definition of racism. The connotation of racism is judging someone else based by the color of their skin, which is now what the term typically is used as. You're working off the old denotation of racism, which is one majoritys treatment of a minority. which, then, your statement would be correct. Because language is fluid, and changes depending on what the majority agrees to meaning, your pedantic correction comes off as flawed.
That's a lot of blahblah for "I take the definition from racist white people who want to bring down 'sassy' Black people and don't listen to people of colour at all", dude.
Every damn person on this planet can be a racist, doesn't matter if they're white, brown, black, fuchsia or purple with yellow polka dots. The whole power dynamic just adds another layer of crap on top of a shit sandwich.
I started rewatching the show when I had kids. It’s absolutely brilliant and funny on levels I didn’t even understand when i watched the first time. But then revelations came out and it’s just too hard to see past that

I really appreciate someone who can laugh at themselves :)

She and her wife both suck. Their interview with colleen the child predator was vile. Pandering would be putting it lightly.
LeifHietala
Clearly the song didn't make much of an impression on her.

Neil Breen is a legend, sir.

Tell me you don’t write your own music without telling me you don’t write your own music.
HandoB4Javert
Paul McCartney couldn't remember the lyrics to Yesterday as he composed it the with words "Scrambled Eggs..."

Hey music career was like 25 years ago and didn't go great and didn't last long

akambe
Thought the same thing. No way she wouldn't have recognized it if she'd penned the lyrics.
JimFromMarketing
Yeah but man of I sang shit on tv, whoever wrote it, I'd remember. I think this is great
Cataleast
She sure didn't, considering it's a cover of a 1981 song by Frankie Smith.

It covers about 98% of pop music. In too cases the actual writers get shafted.

Well, Steven Tyler completely forgot he co-wrote and performed "You see me crying" from Toys in the Attic. Party too hard consequences.
ISayShenanigans
Didn't he once suggest to Joe Perry they should do a cover to Dream On?
ReallyOG
I vote to give Mr. Tyler a pass on that one though. Things happened back then that cannot, will not and probably should not be remembered.
Fargus57
Keith Richards remembers. Keith remembers all of it.
ReallyOG
Keith will inherit all of it when we are gone.

Olivia has always been low key racist. Once she proudly said she'd never hire women with crazy black people names.
tzahtman
Isn't she also married to a woman while also being dismissive of the LGBTQ community?
donorkort
The "white people" remark wasn't exactly PC either.
ChickenChickenBurningBright
I'm really glad i didn't know who any of these people are
nintendolunchbox
The lady is the little girl Olivia from the Cosby show.
tzahtman
I think at this point she's probably more broadly known from her show That's So Raven.
Niagaran
That's not racism. Racism is about power dynamics. They can have prejudices but can't be racist.

lol offended the low key racists who are racist enough that they won't listen to millions of Black people (and thousands of white scholars).

No, that's racial inequality, which is based on racism, which is specifically prejudice about race, a social construct. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_inequality#Racial_and_ethnic_inequality

Who is Olivia the title says raven and Miranda
nintendolunchbox
She played Olivia Huxtable on the Cosby show. It's why she's famous.
RocketKokket
Ohhh ok gotcha. I never watched that growing up cuz my dad was racist and always changed channels
nintendolunchbox
Despite the monster Cosby turned out to be the show still holds up. Watch a few clips on YouTube.
