Coherence

Emily could have had everything that she wanted. She could have been a huge dancing star. She could have been famous and rich. But her decisions made her to lose everything. Now, a dreadful night when the layers of reality are breaking apart and nothings has sense, or coherence, she is in risk to lose the only thing that she still has: her life and sanity.

Be prepared to face an unique experience comprising several parallel universes and realities while suffocating under the weight of paranoia, uncertainty, and fear.

Mindscape

John (Mark Strong, Kick-Ass) is a memory detective. He enters into other people's minds in order to navigate through their memories and to use them as evidence in court.

After a breakdown, caused by his wife's suicide, he is commissioned to help a mysterious teenager who refuses to eat. It seems to be a simple case, but soon John realizes that this girl has an obscure and confusing past. He doesn't know if she is lying or not. He wants to believe her, but all the evidence is against her. Would he be able to help her? Or he will be destroyed in the attempt?

As a side note, Taissa Farmiga stars as Anna, the girl. American Horror fanatics have to watch this!

Predestination

If you like time-travel movies you will find this one delighting.

Ethan Hawke stars as a time-traveler agent who is in a mission to catch one of the most dangerous and demented criminals in all history. He had killed hundreds of people in heinous terrorist attacks and his actions had remained unpunished during several decades. But is he really insane? Or has he a hidden purpose behind these horrible acts?

You will find in this movie paradoxes, suspense, action, an original script and a magnificent acting by its two leads (or is it just one?).

I Origins

Ian (Michael Pitt, Funny Games) is a scientist who investigates the origin and evolution of the eyes. He is fascinated with them; he carries his camera everywhere in order to capture their beautiful and captivating essence. One day, in a party, he meets a mysterious and fascinating woman, but he is only able to see a part of her: her pretty, seductive eyes (she is wearing a mask). She becomes his obsession, and with his only clue available, a picture of her eyes, he will do anything to find her.

I Origins is a beautiful movie that will make you wonder about soul-mates and reincarnation. An alluring soundtrack complements the superb poetical images.

Snowpiercer

Chris Evans is better known for his role in The Nanny Diaries. But in Snowpiercer, he proves that he is not only a pretty face but also, a great and committed actor.

Snowpiercer is a claustrophobic apocalyptic film that takes place in the interior of a train. This vehicle carries the last remaining survivors of the almost-extincted human race. They lived separated in classes. The lower of them had barely access to food or clothes, while the richest enjoy all the pleasures and delights. Chris will lead a revolution that will not only change the order of the social status, but the destiny of mankind.

A full-action-packed film that will make you reflect about human nature and it's core values.

Sound of my Voice

Brittany Marling has become a Sci-Fi darling (she also appears in I Origins). She stars this daunting film that narrates the life of Maggie, a cult leader (Marling). She claims to have arrived from a distant future. She had formed a sect to warn her faithful and blind followers about the terrible future that awaits ahead.

The film is completely ambiguous and likes to play with our expectations, never giving real answers. Or does it? Every conversation and action can be the key to solve this fascinating puzzle.

Give it a try if you like smart movies that will challenge you to think and wonder.

The Man from Earth

What would you do if you meet an immortal man? What would you ask to him? Would you believe him? What if he tell you that he had shaped the course of human race?

I introduce to you, the man from Earth.

This movie is one of the most originals that I have ever seen. If I tell you that this film doesn't have special effects, or that it entirely develops inside a single room, with only middle-aged people talking and discussing without doing anything else, you must think that it is extremely boring, but hat is not the case.

You will remember this film your entire life.

Everyone says snowpiercer is such an awesome movie, the action sequences are cool, the ending is awful.

God that ending pissed me off

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I know right?! Gimme a minute, let me butt fuck humanity.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I've only seen Snowpiercer. It was better than I was expecting.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 7

Predestination, what a mind fuck.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you for not including "Sunshine," like the past 10 posts did

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

So true because Sunshine is the worst.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

There are many words I would use to describe Snowpiercer, but "great" is not one of them. Far from it.

11 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 18

Snowpiercer was a fucking weird, but awesome movie. The end... the feels were so real at the end

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 7

Mindscape was originally called Anna if that helps anyone questioning if they've seen it. Great movie

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Quite good!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I couldn't find it on IMDB until it redirected me to Anna. Seriously, Mindscape is a way cooler name. Anna sounds more like a rom com.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha I agree. My video compiler couldn't tell what movie Anna was so that's how I figured it out. Way better name

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, this movie had dreadful reviews, but Mark Strong is my favorite so I'm still gonna see it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Snow Piercer was dumb.

11 years ago | Likes 176 Dislikes 55

It had a lot of potential and felt similar to Pelevin's excellent "Yellow Arrow" but hollywood ruined it in the end

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

There are flaws, but I wouldn't call it dumb. There is a lot of great acting, fantastic cinematography and interesting stunts.

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 11

I liked it until the end, which completely ruined it.

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 9

Yeah, I honestly don't get the love for this film. It seemed to me like it was trying to be too clever for its own good.

11 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 11

totes agree.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Let's face it, it was just your run of the mill shoot em up with an exagerated class divide and an apocalyptic theme to make it seem edgy.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 3

I was trying hard to be on board with it until the end. It was so dumb. I laughed out loud at the most "dramatic" of the revelations

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

The ending was kind of sketchy, I think the alternate one was much better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwGRtoGekqE

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If anything, I found the concept to be pretty entertaining.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

Totally agree!

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

I'm so glad people came over to my side about this movie. Now, if only they will realize how The Hunger Games sucks for the same reasons

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

It was an awful film, and very poor sci-fi at that

11 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 12

Wouldn't it be a dystopia film, not sci-fi?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

that does sound more specific

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I Origins was the most pseudoscientific bullshit movie I've ever seen.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're the last people on earth! Let's still have a ridiculous class system on our death train!

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

Are you implying that we WOULDN'T have a ridiculous class system, or...?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Yep. I'd say survival instinct would kick in over wearing fancy hats and making sure the guards are well armed...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm pretty generously minded to mankind but even I think that a harsh hierarchy would arise very quickly in a vacuum.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Theres beef and chicken but where are the fucking animals?

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 6

In all seriousness, I assumed it was because they skipped the animal trains. They just didn't show all the interim cars.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

magic!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

So, so dumb. Good to watch if you have some friends and some booze for the ol' MST3k treatment, though.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

Other than the scene with the fish, Snowpiercer was a solidly meh movie. Dystopia tropes on a train.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

THIS. When I've actually seen one of the movies in these lists, it's been crap (coughequilibriumcough). Makes the rest of the list suspect.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 13

careful, dissing equilibrium around here is frowned upon. for reasons i can not understand.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

I don't get it either. It was Fahrenheit 451, 1984, and The Matrix rolled into one, thus eliminating any originality.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I've seen most on the list and enjoyed them. EXCEPT Snow Piercer.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

What, you thought a movie about an evil train run by crazy people was dumb?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

Yes, so the world is about to be an uninhabitable ice ball? Should we go into space? Should we build bunkers? No, Lets build a train!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

You know what would make me 100% more likely to watch these? if people included where i could stream them. or if they were on netflix.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

was going to comment exactly this.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think coherence and snowpiercer are on netflix (in USA) right now. I don't think I've seen any of the others on there though.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

torrent

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man From Earth is also on Netflix. Watch it for sure.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Google the title with the necessary terms after it such as "online" or "stream" then try some hits. Usually works. Fuck Netflix!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

try putlocker.is for coherence, predestination, i origins, sound of my voice, and the man from earth, but mindscape isn't there.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

correction, mindscape is there, alternate title Anna, search that, and just confirm it's the one with Mark Strong

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I Origins was a good watch.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

I agree. It's weird but nice

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It has flaws but I really enjoy the "Facts vs. Destination" theme in the movie

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Primer

11 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 8

+1 for Primer

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't think I'm an idiot, but I've watched it twice and still have no idea what was going on. I still thought it was great.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I don't think I'm an idiot, but I've watched it twice and still have no idea what was going on. I still thought it was great.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The director had another film called Upstream Color, even harder to understand than Primer

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I haven't ever seen Primer on any of these lists and it makes me so sad. It is maybe the best sci fi movie I've ever seen.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think I'm an idiot, but I've watched it twice and still have no idea what was going on. I still thought it was great.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Chris Evans is better known for his role in The Nanny Diaries?!? How about Captain America or The Avengers?

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 6

*whoosh*

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nanny Diaries Mother fucker!... Not another Scary Movie much?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

dont forget about "Not Another Teen Movie"

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Man from Earth. Wooh!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Coherence is great! One of my favorite sci fi films of the last few years

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

im watching it now because of this post.....talk about mind fucking

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Finally! Finally, someone has 'The Man From Earth' on a sci-fi movie list. Intruiging film - both in content and as a piece of filmmaking.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Chris Evans from Snowpiercer, "the worst part is... I know that babies taste best." Best movie is best.

11 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 13

Love the comment, but a wee bi of spoiling, eh?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Eh... Only if you actually know the movie.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That scene showed how great an actor Chris Evans is

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The Man From Earth is one of my favorite movies of all time. So amazing.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Snowpiercer is ok, not great but not terrible. Chris Evans is beyond great in the film though. He steals the show and never relents

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 10

I thought Snowpiercer was ok. I found The Man From Earth harder to watch with its appalling B-grade acting

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

"Not terrible"? Did you by chance fall asleep during the singing scene? Or the ending, which made no sense whatsoever?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

"Chris Evans is better known for his role in The Nanny Diaries." O_o

11 years ago | Likes 1456 Dislikes 8

He was great in 'What's Your Number?' too, it was the Civil War cast before the Civil War. heh

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Possible spoiler for SnowPiercer, open the next comment on your own risk

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that because he ate a baby?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

"Mark Strong (Kickass)"

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To me he'll always be the guy from Cellular.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Any list that includes Snowpiercer is shit.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He was also in those super hero movies; the Fantastic Four.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I legitimately laughed.

11 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Hi pretty twin:D

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heyyyyyyyyyy Ugly Twin!!!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Meh twin's an Imgurian!!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish someone would do this "must watch" seriouso list, but with Telenovas.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah man, he's always up in Marvel movies. Like Fantastic Four.

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I avoided watching both. The first one because I heard it sucked and the second because I'd already heard he was going to play Cap.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That was my joke ;) The Fantastic Four movies were mediocre at best, and Chris Evans is FAR better as Cap.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Y'know that title sort of does fit with Cap in the Avengers.

11 years ago | Likes 306 Dislikes 3

11 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 1

"Language!"

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Pfsh, no, his role in "Scott Pilgrim v the World" was his career definer. All downhill from there

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Things went rapidly downhill during that film, not after...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I lost it at that part

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If joking - good one. If serious - extremely annoyed.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think the joke is that the movie is so obscure, even Nanny Diaries is more famous, but this movie is actually pretty well known, so...

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I assumed the joke was that he is clearly more well known for the Avengers/Captain America movies, so OP didn't mention them.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Like Mark Strong in Kick-Ass. Or so I'm going to pretend, at least. That can't be his most recognizable role.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This whole list became suspect as soon as I read that.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Well, just better known. Not necessarily best known.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That movie with Scarlett Johansson was good too. . . . The Perfect Score I believe it was called.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I liked him best in "Not Another Teen Movie"

11 years ago | Likes 265 Dislikes 0

After watching him in Snowpiercer...I knew I had seen him before...thanks for clearing that one up. I wonder what else he has done?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"*punch* That's for... being really weird!"

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

So I am not alone in this opinion.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How can she dump me?! Jake Wyler!?

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

He is actually hilarious in this film. Sych a funny film

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ohhh.. That's gonna stain!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That movie was hilarious!

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

"You haven't spoke to me in 4 years" "6 actually. The time you're referencing, I was actually saying hello to the person behind you"

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You got your mother's eyes

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He'll always be the guy from London (2005) for me

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Glad to know Marvel has such strong character branding. We all know Sunshine, but will no one mention Scott Pilgrim?

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Was looking for this. Good on you @StatisticallyInsignificantCanadian.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What about Not Another Teen Movie? I'll leave.

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Scott Pilgrim?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Fantastic movie. I'll need to watch that again soon.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Losers?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cellular?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

6/10 no winnie the pooh movies

11 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

Oh, bother.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Man From Earth is fantastic.

11 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 5

It's like the 12 angry men, but cleverer..

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am so glad I'm not the only person that thinks so!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I think Dan was my favourite character in it. I always try and show people the film.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love that the cast was almost entirely made up of "Hey, it's that guy!" actors.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought this was a serious list until Snowpiercer

11 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 44

Agree, that movie was shit even by the modest standards set by it's predecessors like water world and six string samurai.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I hated that movie.

11 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 8

I was tolerating it until they all stopped fighting to celebrate new year. WAT

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That movie was just... so terrible. It was like playing where's waldo but instead of waldo you're looking for any semblance of subtlety.

11 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 14

Eh, as far as entertainment goes, it wasn't so bad. It wasn' deep or insightful, but it kept my attention.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All the critics loved it so much! Having seen it I've decided all the critics never really saw it OR were paid off. Intensely disliked it.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I scan the list for absolute shockers like Snowpiercer. The other deal breaker is Sunshine. That movie was awful.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Snowpiercer was a piece of shit. I thought I was going insane, seeing all the rave reviews

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Yeah I agree. That movie sucked.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

The inclusion of that movie really does make me question the entire list. It was just so awful.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I started to watch but didn't finish the movie. I thought it wasn't very good.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

^

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Agreed

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 6

Probably my favourite movie of all time. Also the only movie I've watched 3 days in a row.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 12

Me and my dad picked the movie apart laughing at it the whole time. It was a fucking terrible movie.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I enjoy the movie. Not because of some deep and philosophical social commentary via a train with an eagle on it, but I liked the action

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

but he knows that babies taste best

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Yeah, that was some hilarious shit. I thought that was the point the writers stopped trying.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

That movie was ridiculous. I almost passed out laughing when Tilda Swinton removed her teeth for no apparent reason.

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 5

This was the funniest scene for me - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufzNMqqKCi8

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That too. I think I watched the entire movie with my mouth agape, confused as to how anyone was taking it seriously.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

but it's the bestest scify movie ever made, did you see train?? it had poor people at the back. it was so deep movie

11 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 15

That was the surface basic philosophy, he expands on certain aspects and other viewpoints as well

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I lost it at "it had poor people at the back".

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Ok i so very much agree but omg the scene with the school and the teacher (@)(@) da fuq did i just watch

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

However, please don't skip The man from earth. its fantastic.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you!!! So glad to hear other people felt the same way. Can't believe it got such a good rating on rotten tomatoes.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought it was a good movie until the ending.

11 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 7

Yeah I enjoyed it but I found that the ending didn't really match the rest of the film

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I found it passable until the scene where they began exchanging gunfire from one car to another, 10 cars behind, during a turn. lol, no thx

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

I will not sacrifice my people! LOL JK I kill us all

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

"Hey, remember that movie we just made? Yeah, lets make it irrelevant!" ~ Snowpiercer's director

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

agreed, the alternate version improved on it slightly though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwGRtoGekqE

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Instantly made best movie ever. "Surprise! It was a Coca-Cola commercial the whole time!"

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Snowpiercer is great. He's an amazing director. Much better if you have a deep knowledge of asian cinema tho.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 22

Actually a lot of Asian cinema movies do have this problem. Interesting concept, decent to good execution, terrible ending

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mmm'yes. You surely should have deeeeep knowledge.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

Come on man, don't be rude. There's no need to take offense to that. People are allowed to be good at something, even on the internet.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yes, sorry for watching a lot of Asian films. They're good. Not my fault if people don't get it.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Snowpiercer got a 95% on RT, and Joon-ho Bong is an "it" director for South Korea. It wasn't as good as Mother, but it's generally beloved.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Predestination is one of those movies that you'll think is dumb for the first half and then it suddenly gets crazy and all falls into place.

11 years ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 5

Predestination fucked me right the hell up

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And absolutely scarred me for life. So fucking mind screwy.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Spoiler* Predestination...a movie about a girl who took the phrase, "go fuck yourself" literally.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I see where you're coming from, but that movie was fucking weird. It started weird, got weirder, and then eventually ended when was weirdest

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The ending sequence, and subsequent study of the rest of the movie really made me think. Way more than Inception ever did.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really good movie, slow in beginning, but then comes full circle.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Atypically for a book to movie translation, the movie added a plot device. Which introduced a plot hole. Annoying. Still a great flick.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, want a big fan of that arc :/

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's source material is one of the best short stories ever. Will reply with name, to give spoiler warning.

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Spoilers? I read the story and watched the movie and still don't really see the significance of the title

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Heinlein must be spinning in his grave. The movie took an incredible short and turned it into a predictable joke.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I won't disparage it. That someone in Hollywood even knew a Heinlein story is cause for a holiday, and I won't throw sand in those gears.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

All You Zombies by Heinlein

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Gonna check it out, thanks

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I really need to read this now, thanks for sharing.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It's in The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag, and every story in it is awesome. Especially the title story.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

/a/4Jvac

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really you should start reading lots of Heinlein! /a/4Jvac

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I read Starship Troopers and Stranger in a Strange Land every year. They keep me grounded.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I loved it right until the end.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Watch Coherence man - can't recommend it enough.

It's next on my list for sure.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just watch it and let the headfuck ensue

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't read about it man

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*SPOILER COMMENT, KIND OF SORT OF MAYBE*

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's inclusion in this list would have been even better if there wasn't the heavy handed hint at its plot twist in the description.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Like anyone watching the heavy handed movie adaptation wouldn't see it coming a mile off.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You overestimate the general population. All but the most perceptive will spend a hot minute watching it before their holy shit moment.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe you're right... I find, more and more, in my adult life, that I make the mistake of assuming the average person is at the level 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol, when I read that last line in the description, I facepalm so much... That's something that should definitely NOT be said.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Was disappointed in this as well.had no idea going in to the movie, and though I suspected it midway through, still caught me a bit off guard.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We sat there thinking "Why are we seeing all this?", guessed at what was going to happen, pondered life.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Soo... No need to watch Predestination, then? I think given OP's description that I can give a pretty good guess on who he's chasing. -_-

11 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 1

Lol. I agree that this is not as 'spoilery' as you think it might be.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Himself? I'm going to go with himself.

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

it's more complexe than that, go watch it.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Or, read the original short story. It's only like 12 pages, so you'll save yourself a lot of time

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not the main plot though, watch it!!

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Honestly I guessed within the first 10 minutes that he was after himself, but its not a spoiler that would ruin the movie. I suggest it.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Seriously though, watch it anyway. It's so worth it.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Himself that was once a trans and then once a woman who is his own mother and father.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just watched it, and granted it was more amazing having not realized that spoiler, watching things fall into place is awesome.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP saved you some time that you wouldn't otherwise get back had you watched it

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, seriously... go watch it.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

I really struggled with the man from earth, the acting felt really poor with the exception of the main character

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Agreed

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The acting was terrible - really B-grade stuff.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Holy shit, a ton of hate for Snowpiercer here. Like a lot of eastern cinema it's more about the "what" then the "how". I loved it.

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 9

Weee that makes three of us! I love that movie.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

upvote for you

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

It just had a terrible ending. There's plenty of Asian cinema that coherently end things without leaving gaping holes

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I loved it too!!!!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I enjoyed it

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I give you my axe!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Snowpiercer is a God damn garbage. Ruined the list for me.

11 years ago | Likes 104 Dislikes 35

Yes, but it's a sweet smelling garbage not a dog shit smelling garbage

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

It was like a downhill ride, great at the beginning, sluggish, boring and plain uninteresting towards the end. Wasted potential

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

you're a god damn garbage.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 12

Agreed

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

It was honestly one of the few movies that I felt like it wasn't even worth finish watching the whole thing. Only other was the Aviator.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

I quickly scrolled through the list, saw that, and felt the same way. I watched until the end assuming there was a twist that make it OK. No

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

I was thinking the same thing, "Il watch it to the end, maybe there will be some redemption". Then I saw it was 30min left and I just couldn

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

What did you dislike about it?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

For me it was the insane amount of incredibly obvious and easily avoidable plot holes. It was horrible.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Okay

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Surely it only ruined 1/7th of the list for you

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

hello my fellow optimist :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Have only seen "The Man from Earth", 9/10 would recommend. won't ruin anything by giving stuff away, just watch it.

11 years ago | Likes 446 Dislikes 12

One of my favorite movies for a few years now. Fantastically original and well acted. I can't recommend this movie enough.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I finally watched this movie and liked it. I didnt have subtitles and english isnt my first language so I missed some things. Did they...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ever ask him about writing like a diary? Could diary proof anything or pictures? That pencil example was so clever tho...

It really does feel like a classic Twilight Zone show, too. And it's got a bunch of Star Trek actors.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Which made "I'm going home and watch Star Trek for a dose of sanity." even funnier

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To further add to that, Bixby actually wrote a Star Trek episode with ideas that basically became this movie.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That actually makes a lot of sense. Back in the day, a a show or movie was only as good as its script (little to no SFX).

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

9/10? Nigga pls I gave it a 10!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i liked it (watched it just now after reading) but the dialogue was so flat like it was the first read through, still nice.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm surprised, this was recommended to me but I hated it. It could've been so much better but the acting & dialogue ruined it for me.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Excellent film. Really touching. If you haven't seen it, watch Coherence, and don't read anything about it.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

This movie is science fiction in its most unadulterated form. Nothing in the movie distracts you from the central "what if" question.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

such a great piece of dialog. watched / listened to it on a car ride.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That movie was awesome. The budget had to be like $0.00, and it still rocked.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Nice!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just watched it. such a star wars ending...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've not watched it, mainly because I read the biggest spoiler and now I don't know if I'd enjoy it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You will. This movie isn't about the ending, or a great reveal, it's about the dialogue. It doesn't matter what you know going into it.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the advice. I'll go watch it now I know that.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just finished it... Dude, that movie was fuckin wild regardless of the ending!!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its good

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've only seen 3 movies here (Cohere, Predest, Snowpierc) and they were all very good. Looks like Im watching this one next

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've re watched it three times just to listen to the conversations

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. This one is one of my favorites to watch with my friends.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably the worst movie Ive seen this year. If you want a good movie with only dialogue watch 12 Angry Men.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

12 Angry Men is the best movie ever made. Thank you.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do not get what people see in this movie. It was a boring plot with terrible acting. I don't consider it a movie but rather a discussion.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A gripping story which somehow holds your attention even though it is set mostly in the same room for the entire run.

11 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 2

That's the thing! I didn't need to see any reenactments, it was all clearly held in my mind.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I think it could easily be adapted into a stage play. There are only a couple scenes that take place outside and they don't even need to.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i love when people say 'watch this movie!' but there's nowhere to actually see the movie.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is, it's just a matter of moral.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its free on Hulu I got bored and stopped watching halfway through though

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

solarmovie has all the movies you could ever watch for free streaming. HD too. Google it ^^

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had forgotten about it until this post and remember how fantastic it was. Going to re watch now.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

LOVE The Man From Earth. For those who don't know, the producers of the film are currently working on a tv pilot for it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember watching that randomly years ago on Netflix. Jesus Christ that was a good movie!

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

I see what you did there.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Shhh

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My all time favorite movie!

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I watched this years ago and loved it, it's always stuck with me! Glad to finally know the title so I can re-watch it

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ditto. My favorite movie.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't watch I Origins, it's just terrible. Unless you're religious then you might like it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'm sad to see it on the same list as snowpiercer.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Spoiler. The hat is not the case.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Decided to watch it after reading this comment. Excellent mind candy. Thanks for the review.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What ? I read some hype on imdb IIRC and I was clearly bummed when the plot started to unfold and especially after that. Not my kind.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I kept being told to watch it. Found it a little bit insufferable.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

could you expand a little? Thinking of watching it. I don't care too much if you spoiler it.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The idea is that one of the characters wants to tell the story of an immortal. But he can't actually explain...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

... any of the weird stuff from history except too say 'well he knew kung fu'. It is a good premise and is pretty well executed, if annoying

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The soundtrack is also very stirring and fits perfectly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-rAi-2hZ6U

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Appearance by neelix out of makeup!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I saw the movie and thought it was pretty interesting. On the same topic is a book named The Boat of a Million Years by Poul Anderson.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna have to check that out. Thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check out, "The One I love", on netflix. Talk about a rollercoaster.

11 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 3

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am an avid movie watcher, and that is one of the few times i've been completely speechless and stunned at the end of a film.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Same here! I am even considering giving it a 10 out of 10 which I almost never ever do. Great ride.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I just watched it based on your recommendation. Weird movie.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Commenting to remember it tomorrow

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I love this movie, and you can't even say anything about it without spoiling it

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Agreed! And it's so hard to convince other people to watch it since you can't say anything about the plot!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That's so funny with some movies. I tried to get a friend to watch Gone Girl, with only the premise that "a girl is gone"

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

absolutely loved it! was sceptical first. But it's exactly the type of twilight stuff i like.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I just watched it. I'm happy with the ending.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I feel like you spoiled something major in Predestination and I'm not that happy about that...

11 years ago | Likes 341 Dislikes 0

Spoiler alert: movie was really cheesy and stupid

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

It was kind of terrible, and this is coming from a die hard Sci-Fi fan. It was one of the worst, most improbable stupid things ever.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

All You Zombies is a quick read. And like 2 bucks for a digital version. And Jane's final line, makes the story and the film much better.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

trust me.. it will still blow your mind away

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I read the description and thought - this must be the guy writing titles for the images around here.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That kinda genuinely pissed me off but I'll still watch it

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Read this instead: http://www.creepypasta.com/the-time-paradox/ It's the same story

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope haha, ive seen it and that hasn't got anything close to whats in the film

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah thanks OP

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How is that a spoiler? It's so blindingly obvious from start to finish and makes no sense regardless.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 8

it's a spoiler because i haven't watched it yet and had absolutely no idea what was going to happen and then i read that description.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

it's like someone saying "watch Fight Club, it's this really interesting movie where Brad Pitt is a figment of Ed Norton's imagination"

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Damnit, OP. Still, Sarah Snook's performance was nothing short of amazing.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Seriously. She deserves top billing for this movie more than Ethan hawke

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right?! I hope to see her in a lot more good roles. As a married, heterosexual female, I fell in love with early John.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this movie is inexplicable. You just gotta watch it, I saw it last year and my mind is still fucked 8 ways to Sunday

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not giving me incentive.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

better plot twist than inception x shutter island squared

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good thing I didn't read the description, then. Descriptions: Ain't nobody got time fo dat.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good thing I don't read! :D

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nope. Go watch it.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

It's based on a Heinlein short which I had read. Pretty true to the story. Still worth watching. And @TheDoctor512 SPOILER!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which one?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All You Zombies. Here's a crappy scan: http://cla.calpoly.edu/~lcall/303/heinlein_all_you_zombies.pdf Amazon has an kindle edition

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

hmm i don't know how i feel about that. Now Heinlein has broken my heart!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did not like predestination.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Well, it's based on the original grandfather paradox story, iirc. But it's been done better and more interesting since then

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Right? It was shit. Esp since my bf is trans [i found it offensive] and because hello, basic genetics and A&P science 101, not possible

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Major spoiler... still worth a watch.

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Yeah, OP's done fuck. But watch it anyway, it's entertaining.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

It sucked anyway.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yea i kinda dont wanna see it anymore

11 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

it's more complexe than that, go watch it.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

it's more complexe than that, go watch it.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

It was kind of terrible, and this is coming from a die hard Sci-Fi fan. It was one of the worst I've ever seen. Don't waste your time. It

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

also offended me on a whole other level. And they were ignorant of basic physics [paradoxes] and genetics.
