Why is the bread not toasted? And the cheese looks like a sliced cheese unwrapped and tossed in the sandwich. ...Honestly, seems a bit minimal effort with just the cooked meat and chips/fries on a paper plate.
Simple is beautiful. Last night i ate three while chicken legs with some leftover salad. Ate it all by hand like a disgusting little goblin and it was one of the best meals this year so far.
Fries are greasy; up the temperature on the oil & reduce the cook time. If you're making a burger at home, there's no excuse for the meat not meeting the sides of the bun. Shape a square patty if you must, but that undersized puck is unacceptable. If you're going to use sandwich slices, toast the entire sandwich in a lightly greased pan. Add a pickle or 2 on the side. The vinegar is good to cut the grease.
That usually happens when the contents make the bread soggy. I suggest trying with a moisture barrier, courtesy of Alton Brown: toast the bread, then put some mayo on it. The mayo keeps the burger juice from soaking the bread, and will also combine with the mayo for a delicious sauce. I do this with regular hamburger buns, too, and it's amazing. Toasted bun, mayo, pepper, patty, that's it. Wonderful.
The food I cook for myself is vastly different than what I cook for others. Mainly because they're worth the greater effort, and I love hearing the happy noises as they eat.
You must be British. Both the words proper and chips is a giveaway. We Americans like to do it the lazy and unhealthy way. Buy them in huge bags and deep fry them
We are a country that, for at least the last 8 years, has been about bigotry, classism, survival of the strongest, individualism, and strife. Also generations of jokes about wives chaining men down, or how being dysfunctional is normal and funny. As a seocity we celebrate barely scraping by, so some celebrate that their relationships are barely scraping by. Throw in some martyrdom thinking and you get to be a hero for staying in a relationship both people hate. Basically we are fucked up.
We spent decades celebrating the worst qualities of people, then idealized just scrapping by. Everything about lower middle class and harder life is about how you just managed to survive today, and how you can manage to survive tomorrow. Why would your relationships be any better than your life? Why would your life be any better than what your parents had? They were losers and make sure you know you are one too. That the way of life is struggling to survive and if you drown a few others, oh well
I feel like so much of it is just rage bait, too. If they just posted it no one cares, if you say your female partner ridiculed it then everyone jumps to support you
Ah you need a convection oven/air fryer. Not that they will be fantastic but definitely a lot better than a regular oven. Good for when I want a quick snack of some fries.
It's weird, but I've found if you put mayo or something directly on the bread in the sammich, it doesn't weld itself to the roof of my mouth as much. Might just be me.
I have to say, neither of these issues are things I've ever run into, but apparently it's common? What is American bread for it to behave like that? Are you guys okay?
I just meant sliced bread in general. Doesn't matter if it's cheap stuff or not. The grease from the burger makes it stick behind my teeth. It's "normal" bread, bc in general, if someone sends you to the store to buy bread, you don't come back with hot dog buns or hamburger buns.
I would imagine it's an acquired taste. :P It has a sweet and sour taste, since it's often made with sourdough and molasses, but it's not in your face. We grow up with it here, so we're used to it, and compared to this, white bread tastes like nothing. Might as well stick my tongue out of a window. :D
That's a dark, course Vollkornbrot (whole grain bread). You wouldn't use it aa burger buns or anything the likes. Burgers are indeed best topped with a brioche-like bread. Sandwiches require a different, lighter variety than this of course.
There are 999 varieties or bread. But flappy untoasted toast... cake, is not one.
Toast is basically just functionally considered as bread in Germany. Toast and Bread are two categoried not automatically thought of as one. And "Toast" is that in the picture. Because it's there to be toasted. The idea that Americans regularly eat it untoasted is bewildering to many.
I was not entirely serious in the initial comment. I just played a bit on the phenomenon.
Not going to pretend that i was never involved in one of those fights on the "Toast =\= Bread" side. It's just an instinctual reaction to someone calling toast bread. XD
To be fair no one else in the world is that particular about bread as us. That being said, "real" bread that we refer to as bread is difficult to get outside if Germany, even in the rest of Europe.
Hurr8888
Looks good. I'd eat that.

On "cooking duty" for who? Yourself? Lol

The small amount of effort it takes to griddle that sandwich into a patty melt elevates the final product to a whole new tier.

Perfectly good meal, with nothing wrong with it. But presentation is lacking, At least a decent pic could have helped it a lot.

Toast that bread though

Toast the bread, melt the damn cheese, and don't just squirt the dipping sauce (ketchup or otherwise) in multiple different places on the plate.
Littledirtybirdyfeet
Patty melt, there's using your ticker

If you toast the bread, you have to add garlic butter. This is the way.
homoerection
Can we have roasted garlic mayo and caramelized onions on top?
RyanSilver612
Now we need the meme of "men think it takes 5 minutes to carmelize onions"
homoerection
Last time made them it took almost 2 hours
RyanSilver612
I have never made them cause I am a man and ain't nobody got time for that

The main problem i have, is normal bread on a hamburger always gets the bread stuck behind my top teeth every bite. Like, it fucking suctions there.
Munchman347
Put both slices in one slot of the toaster and lightly toast just the outsides... much like a burger bun, works for dogs too...
clarkWhogotsanity
Just give a light toast on the outer pieces and it helps.

As a british person with stereotypical british teeth I would recommend brioche buns. Not as flakey and extra rich and delicious :9

Toast it. You are halfway to a patty melt so why not finish it?
TodayisaGoodDaytohaveaGoodDay
That’s what I was thinking… patty melt is the way to go if you only have white sandwich bread. And add some fried onions in it :)

TOAST.

No, that's clearly too much effort. Against the rules when going with the shittiest timeline version of fries.
IMakeLotsOfReferencesAndRemakes
We call those fries "mixed bag" some soft, some crisp, some crunchy.
emu314159127001
I never ate any that were anything but soggy, or if oven baked, sometimes hard also. Do not want

Sliced bread like this is usually really soft.
Apollymkatistrafia
Yep, usually the cheap ass white bread

Well from what I understand, it's basically bleached, sliced cake with the amount of sugar that's used to make them so....proooobably not :T

True. So much sugar in Subway buns that the company is not permitted to call their product "sandwiches" in Europe.

No. There's toasted bread and Toast. Toast is a wheaty, spongey pellet that needs to be toasted to be edible.
