Funny grampa! What I don't get is: what is that charter thing he speaks of? All I could find was some yacht thing, and I somehow doubt that's what he was talking about.
Old Charter is a historic Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey brand (est. 1874)
My guess would be that it may well have been a different brand and he was just calling it old charter, same as saying Kleenex instead of facial tissue or bandaid instead of adhesive bandage.
Dead giveaway was referring to a fifth of it, which is pretty much only used when talking about liquors. It’s a historical size of 1/5 of a gallon, it’s the 750ml size bottle that is the most common retail size of alcohol today.
My guess is that the front bench seats reclined. Taking out the back bench seat would allow the front bench to recline further and form a makeshift bed for hanky panky.
I can assure you as a Wisconsinite it is a Anywhere-thing. I have a bunch of time in the other northern, western, southern and even some eastern states. It's everywhere.
Lol. Right!? Asked same thing and it obviously doesn't even elicit a response. Asked about seatbelt law and he said it's kinda like right to carry a firearm mentality. Do as you please and leave me alone. Had five arguments and let them all go... Tough as a Medic to think of our family when he is in a coma without consideration for the rest of the clan, but can't change that which doesn't want to change. And he's friends with all the PD, so they don't hassle him for it.

Here I thought he was gonna say "and daddy took the seat because it just so happened that the back seat of our 56 Buick went missing earlier that day"

More like a good story worth the listen to the end.

Long career in law enforcement... doesn't wear a seatbelt. Checks out!

He might need to jump out and run down a bad guy. That’s the logic

You mean a black kid he can plant some marijuana on and sell to the for-profit prison slave complex. No /s.

That's definitely a Southern thing. My uncle cut the seatbelt and inserted the clasp to stop the ringing. Didn't like it behind him buckled he said.

I kinda agree, it’s like smoking higher risk to die early.
As there are no insurances to cover the medical cost of a collision it’s your own problem

I…. Why not go to a junkyard and get a clasp from some random junker there?
rbudrick
Also stops if you just cross the wires on the belt that sense if it's buckled.
