Strangely ordinary mosquito bites are the worst for me, they can hurt like hell for weeks... Not sure I ever got to "enjoy" a horsefly bite, but no bug bite ever hurt me as much as mosquito ones. The sharp crisp burning pain of a wasp bite only lasts for a short while and has nothing on the madness-inducing itch-pain of mosquitos bites...

Still have this memory from over 50 years ago. Camping with parents, beautiful location by a creek, still remember the name: Deep Creek, Idaho. Camp, tent etc all setup, area filled with horseflies. Everyone getting bitten. Had to pack up and leave, trip ruined

For those who live outside their population areas, that is a golden orb weaver. They're found in warm, humid climates worldwide. The females are huge and scary looking but harmless to humans, not aggressive, and they will eat ALL the pests.

Only for the horsefly. That spider is one that almost always stays in its web and is completely harmless to people. They are the kind often seen in or near gardens, with yellow and black bodies, and their webs usually have a sort of white zig-zag in the middle. They eat a lot of bugs and are all-round helpful guys/gals. They are friends, not enemies!

Completely harmless till you walk into it screaming bloody murder / “oh god what the fuck”, and the spider gives you a mild/moderate bite that is still pretty annoying.

We had a beautiful orb weaver on our back porch for a month or two. Initially took some convincing the wife to let her stay as she was in the perfect spot to catch all the moths that fly in our back door. Lovely things.
