#37 the art history nerd in me is very pleased to see this. The Goya's "Pinturas Negras" series are thematically very dark in t. So it's making a potentially wretched painting very silly.

#1 funny story, that was me once. I was driving my electric motorcycle and didn't watch my charge. I would need to push it next to me for 2 km, but fortunately guy with a white van stopped in front of me and offered to drive me in the back with my bike to my destination. I didn't even consider for a second he would kidnap me. So we loaded the bike I got on, he drove me to a place I knew I would reach my home from and went separate ways. I just don't want to live in world where kindness is feered
NegasonicAdultEMP
Kindness is cool but dudes in panel vans looking for lost pets or offering candy are definitely not in the kindness business

#23 Live in a house that was built in the mid 1800s, the late 1800s, the early 1900s and in the 1950s. I can confirm. Uniform distances between joists are a suggestion, not a rule. When they finally wired it for electricity, they used solid copper wiring with all black sheaths. In the addition (the part from the 50s), you can see the siding from the original house in one of the closet walls, and there's a bricked over doorway in the Cellar (oldest part) on the wall below the addition.

Oh, yeah; we had to do a few rennovations (laying down tile in an entranceway, redoing bathroom floor, rebuilding some outside stairs) We made sure everything was level and square; but, of course, it doesn't _look_ square because the stuff around it isn't.

Fun fact: Contrary to basically every example you've ever seen in TV and movies, doctors will generally not remove bullets unless their mere presence poses a danger or will prevent healing. Fishing them out is liable to do additional damage for little or no benefit.
moosemaimer
That's likely what killed President Garfield, doctors probing around the wound trying to extract the bullet. When Roosevelt was shot, he insisted the wound be bandaged and otherwise left alone.
m0problems
Of course, he gave a 50-minute speech while still bleeding first, before he accepted any medical attention...
tilly506
Marine field docs do the same with shrapnel, even if it's near the surface and unlikely to cause more harm to remove. Source: the two 20 year old pieces of shrapnel I still have in me.
sharK11
I've had a few patients with unrelated GSWs that I've seen the bullets still in on xray
ADDGirl
Yes. 10 years working on the Trauma floor and I had to explain that to every patient who still had a bullet in them.
It's literally so rare that a surgeon and I were joking about how when they remove a bullet on TV it HAS to go in a metal pan so it can go *tink*. A month later he practically bounded up to me to tell me he actually got to remove a bullet in the OR and drop in in a metal pan and it indeed went *tink*. He was so excited.
astrangehop
Would it do something bad in an mri? I guess lead isn't magnetic?
ADDGirl
I'm not an MRI tech but I'm of the understanding that most bullets won't be magnetic, but unless you know exactly what you were shot with (unlikely unless you shot yourself) they may err on the side of caution and stick with X-ray and CT.
CraftyGiant
My dad's cousin was a trauma surgeon at the largest hospital in Denver, his favorite story from his time working there was extracting a bullet from a baby that was born a month later...
Arcanum3000
That's hilarious. I mean, it's awful for the person to had to have a bullet pulled out of them, but the surgeon's reaction is hilarious.
JanglesPrime
What about dragging a piece of shirt in with it like in Master and Commander? Will that cause an infection?
Styxwash
That's very real and one of the main reasons soldiers died back then before proper medical care came about.
ADDGirl
Infection is real, and bullets are best with dirt and gems. Bullets cutting pieces of cloth out and bringing it into the wound isn't common.
ADDGirl
Bullets themselves are crazy dirty already, but yes, a foreign object like cloth is likely to cause an abscess. Never saw someone need their wound cleaned out because of a shirt piece in it though. When you shoot cloth it doesn't cookie cutter a circle out of it, it rips.
ADDGirl
And FFS, script writers, having "a piece of the bullet still in there!!!!!1!1!!" will NOT be the thing causing the bleeding, and digging around in the wound to find a tiny piece of metal is NOT going to stop the bleeding.
astrangehop
Literally how Garfield died. They dug around for weeks with no sterilization.
chooges
Sorry... the only Garfield I know is the cartoon cat... it is an odd mental image.
DKWhite
But how else can they justify the doc throwing aside all the special tools and shoving their hands into the wound
ADDGirl
Ugh. If you can get your hand in a GSW, that person has other problems that removing a scrap of metal won't solve.
