An aspect I don't think people consider is that paying teachers a lot better brings in better teachers. If you make the pay worth the career, then you have a lot more candidates going after those positions. You now have a deeper talent pool to pull from. Meaning ineffective and bad teachers are easier replaced.
But it's not just paying them more. We have got to get class sizes down too.
Helixninja333
Double at Minimum!!!
Flooferdoof
I believe it should be a highly sought after competitive position. Including the teachers of the wee kiddos perhaps even especially so. It all builds up to amazing success.
rezpawner
A shame he started doing the "millennials are so terrible at life" jokes. He was really good up until that, but now I just can't watch him anymore.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG-V3k_Xl2s - Education is the silver bullet.
Aranon1183
I'm glad Titus is such a staunch progressive!
jtwood
People who say "you should be paid more" should try to add "and I voted to pay you more on the last referendum", because I sure as hell try to pay them more. The assholes around me keep stopping it.
brandonblk
i feel like its all a ploy to keep the population too dumb to realize they are slaves or something
idiotsonfire
Education is the only cure for facism.
ChazzK
I never noticed it, but he kinda looks like Gordon Ramsay's slightly-more-neurotic nephew
dixxienormus
Too much education effort and time is wasted indoctrinating children on religion and superstitious nonsense.

Fuck you, you link stealing bot cunt. Don't give this bullshit scam website a click, scroll down to the proper one this shithead stole.
Badprenup
They got you too huh? Seems like they're using an army of bots to upvote their spam links and downvote anyone who calls them out. Have an upvote

90s have a lot of shows and dramas that either flew under the radar for being to ahead of their time or just got covered up with time because they couldn't beat the sitcoms like sinfeld/cramer/friends.
HowlingRollercoaster2
Kids education is hugely important, and so is the time they pass outside of school. I feel like people don't understand how important it is for them to have somewhere to pass time without expectations and some gentle guidance. Like what grandparents and family and community is supposed to be.
rockmanx853000
His tv show was so good, bummer can’t find reruns of it.
BilltheCatisBack
It’s on You Tube. He has a channel.
rockmanx853000
Nice! Thanks!
ihatemyknee
He's a good, angry egg.
petonious
It starts with the "dumbing down" of education. That's it. Nothing fancy. The rest just involves time and a bit of luck or apathy or both.
ArchonIlladrya
I saw him in Albany once and I swear I've never laughed that hard in my life. He's me and my wife's favorite comic. He's one of those that can weave seamlessly between making you double over in laughter and making you think about life, ala Carlin.
DorkJedi
He has a trend- when his life is tragic, he's funnier than hell. when things are going well, he's less funny.
theSoulciologist
There are some of the comedians that crisscross the lines between philosophers and comedians. Titus is getting there.
Metallica93
Been a fan since 'Norman Rockwell Is Bleeding'. First comic I heard dive into mental health shit. Great stuff.
MechKelly
"This job is the difference between paycheck, and medication and bed check." He has a lot of issues but he found his outlet.
charondaboatman
He’s smart, funny as shit and crazy as a loon. +1
F224ever
His podcast is awesome but political
Subwayfootlong3
Where I live, teachers already make more than enough
Imalwaysready
Whatever, Jan.
theSoulciologist
If the youth could become better citizens, then teachers could use more investment to make sure they are doing their duty. Maybe some people think that money is better spent fighting the imaginary lizard people
apytcypher0
U live at Fantasy Island?
Subwayfootlong3
I've dated many teachers and am dating one right now. They're way overpaid.
thisisnotfineffs
Lol. Lmao, even.
Cognit0Hazard
kirmokum
$60-120K CAD is not overpaid for a teacher.
Subwayfootlong3
I disagree
kirmokum
that's a silly opinion.
Subwayfootlong3
I disagree
UNHchabo
Care to say where it is you live? Cause I have my doubts.
narniasreal
I‘m a teacher and I make more than 90% of the people in my country. However, I still wouldn’t complain if they doubled it.
Subwayfootlong3
Ontario Canada, look it up
UNHchabo
Ah see, well there you go, you live in a country that places significantly greater value on teachers compared with the US.
According to the info I found, the starting salary for an Ontario teacher is $58k, against a living wage of $47k.
Across Lake Erie in Ohio, the starting salary of a teacher is $42k, against a living wage of $64k.
Subwayfootlong3
I don't know how it's 58k in Ontario. These teachers all seem to be making over 100k. That's from kindergarten all the way through highschool.
UNHchabo
This is the chart that I found. Basically $58k is for a teacher with minimum qualifications and no experience, the A2 column is with a Bachelor's degree, and the A4 column is with a Master's or Doctorate.
In order to get above $100k, a teacher with a Bachelor's would need 10+ years of experience.
And in my comparison, a comparable teacher in Ohio would only be making $68k.
dashers
Getting downvoted to oblivion by Americans who can't fathom that other countries pay educators well for the reasons highlighted by OP. Luxembourg, German, Switzerland all pay well. UK _starting_ salary is about bang on median for the country, so it's not a fantastically well paid job, but there's worse (like, half of all other jobs) - I know lots of people who went into teaching in the UK as the money was better than the alternatives. Society should reward great teachers greatly.
LoudBirb
This is an American comic in America making commentary about shitty teacher pay, which sucks here. Contextually, Titus is very clearly referring to American teachers.
Hence, this post/conversation is about American teacher pay by default. If he wanted to comment on teacher pay overseas, he should've specified a location instead of doubling down with some bullshit about them being "way overpaid":

I'm in Canada. My girlfriend is a teacher, but this also applies to other teachers I've dated. She works four and a half hours a day, has paid sick days, a shit ton of vacation, a pension(!), and makes quite a bit more than me despite me being a licensed engineer with twenty five years of experience. Let's not forget that teachers were basically your B and C students growing up so these aren't exactly the best and brightest. So are they overpaid? Yes, compared to everyone else, they are.
narniasreal
You sound jealous
Subwayfootlong3
Nope, just proving my point
narniasreal
All your comments make you sound even more bitter and jealous…
LoudBirb
Wow... you really go around telling strangers on the internet that your girlfriend "isn't exactly the best and brightest", huh?
Subwayfootlong3
I like being honest
LoudBirb
Your "honesty" sure does look and sound like insecurity and contempt. If she exists, I hope she can find someone who actually respects her in the future.
