Are you not into trains. I don’t remember where I stole this from

To be specific high speed trains/rail, it's really a shame that we abandoned trains for trucks and aircraft

Trains, Planes, and AutomoBUSES

Please bro just one more lane bro

What's the song used in this video? I've heard it before, but I'm drawing a blank.

Having people work from home would really help, and most people who already work from home like it.
IsItBrieUrLookingFor
I'm all for public transit and increased access, but maybe don't use Septa (the last image) as a shining example bc it definitely is not
Ximlafay
Everyone saying "induced demand" but seems to me like traffic is just caused by idiots not knowing how to merge
FuryM0nk
Super trains and a damn bus line that isn’t shit and we’re good. Just need one line going up the main streets every 5-10 minutes!
serenityfast
And a dedicated bus lane to keep buses from getting stuck in traffic.
GINVU
Na, just make less people.
autocorrectfailures
Less lanes = less merging, = less congestion. Just build longer off ramps? Worth a shot! Go and downvote, I've seen what makes you cheer!
poochyena
Honestly yea, it works for me in cities:skylines, but idk if it translates well irl too tho.
AroAce
It does not.
It does not work, if there are more lanes than more people will choose to drive which literally is the problem.
holgerdk
I can recommend Adam Somethings channel on YT and his videos on managing traffic.
GroumphLePreux
Who is not into trains ? Let him stand up and commute forever !

Thanks, Alan.

Two Word: "induced demand"
QuamvisSintSubAqua
Two words in German: "Angebotsinduzierte Nachfrage." Demand induced by supply.

Everyday that goes by, I'm more convinced that US people extremely overhype what trains can do. It can only do a fraction of what individual
transportation does. Roads are also way easier to build and can fit and lead to basically anywhere. Cities are fucked for many more reasons
than just cars. Basically every city's core design was done 2 centuries ago at least, and not made for modern population densities.
I live in an area where they tried to build a specific train line to match worker flows and it did nothing, whereas adding a lane over 5km
improved things a lot in the area. Gotta remember things exist outside of cities. Those who don't always end up making things worse.
AntRam95
Here’s a video saying why car centric cites are a great idea https://youtu.be/LB-vsT1Sl68
Lmao, I remember this one ^^ Adam is great ^^
Baggsy13
It took 12 min to cross town by car. They removed the highway. Now it's an hour. Every time I go back, the trains are down.
Bad trains don't excuse unscalable and horrendous money pit highways.
Redshadow09
the car and gas industry try SO HARD to not get people to move to trains.
rollierojas
You obviously never ridden the S.E.P.T.A. the last train shown because it takes it 45 minutes for a 20 drive.
Asadsadsadclown
And how many passengers? Mass transit will never be as fast as individual cars, assuming clear roads. The point is the "mass" part.
dcostanza1
Yeah well that's what happens when you underfund it for 30 years...
ShadusMacAoidh
BNSF owns the rails, and Amtrak runs the commuter trains where I'm at. You can get diverted for over an hour because freight gets priority.
ICampOntheFirstDate
Same here, 30 minute train for a 15 minute drive. I'll still use the train for concerts and going downtown though.
basiccricket8444
Going into Philly for me is a little longer by train, but fuck me is it better than trying to park in philly
mikeatike
The guy that made this, Alan Fisher, does live in Philly.
And at least you have rail service. All of western PA gets 2 Amtrak trains per day.
Canofminus
What a shame.

Gustaf's law, the higher the capacity of the system the more it will be utilized!
proracing53
Wouldn't trains help the poor, that's socialism/s
sunnytater1
Yeah I get it... but I did the subway for decades in two cities, I'll sit in my air conditioned traffic jam very much, thank you.
We literally can't afford to give you that option. You can't scale highways and trying to do so costs way more than taxpayers can afford.
JakSandrow
Underfunded public transit as a result of budgets going towards building car-focused infrastructure is the other side of the coin.
Shadowfly
For office jobs; Work from home? Let the roads be used by ppl who actually do have to be at a specific place to do work?

I work an office job. Boss is upset I won't drive in to sit through a presentation that will be recorded anyway.
3stan2112
Boss is a cunt with nothing better to do than micromanage, it sounds like.
tghood
Yes, but can't stop there. The electrical bill, the hardware maintenance, the furniture and watch out they don't take insurance ->
pleaseconsiderthatImightbejoking
Also stop segmenting places by function, it means you need transportation to do anything. There is no reason a grocery store needs to be 1/2
a 45 min walk from the nearest residence. 2/2
Rubbertje
I go to the office 2x a week to see the colleagues. 40min relaxing trainride, 2x 10min walk. 5 trains per hour so no stress. Boring job >
But nothing beats that comute. A bit of exercise and 2x40min of me time.
erikleorga
Fuck yes! As soon as people started working at offices again the roads got worse.
Gooooodmoooorrrningmuchwow
As a pilot car op, I can attest to this. Moving oversized loads was way easier
I work in renovation and getting to job sites now takes easily 20 minutes longer due to backups at major interstate junctions.
diggetydug
I'm a nurse. Lockdown time? Traffic was great. Laaahhhvved it.

Truck driver. L.A. no-traffic was insane

This is hopefully the future, But there's so many people who won't talk to each other if they're not forced into the same building.
evilgriff
Why talk when you don’t have to?
Because 1 person will tell you do 1 thing, another will tell you something different, etc, etc. Or you can sit in a room and figure out to do
When you're working on a big project everyone has to be on the same page or you'll just be walking in circles.

bike infrastructure
Yes, that too. It sucks, in Colorado Springs they put a bike lane on Research pkwy, and the community bitched so hard they had to remove it.
Marikhen
And both laws and law enforcement to keep it safe. Had a guy tailgate me before driving over the bike lane to make a right turn, and an ->
oncoming cop just ignored the whole thing.

North American cities are not built for public transit, especially trains. It sucks.
threenotch23
You do know that can be changed . Heck use one of those 14 lanes on the freeway!
esgelrothion
They used to be. My grandfather would ride his bike to the station and take the train from Palo Alto into SF every day for work in the 60’s.
whatsisname
They were. They weren't built for cars, they were bulldozed for them. They can be rebuilt.
Filanwizard
the Northeastern cities tend to have functional transit, Even intercity rail is functional.
Zabulus
Seems like we actively decided on cars at one point and now it’s a huge burden to switch back. Sucks cause I hate driving and love trains.
