I'm convinced violence is the only way to get through to these people. My conspiracy theory is that the steps to take before violence were put in place by the powerful so they have more time before the lynching.

I believe self defence laws in the US apply to preventing harm to others as well as your self, right?
freemab
Also require imminent danger without another option. I mean, do you even watch Law and Order?
DanniLuxgarbe
Sadly, the "I killed this man because he was sucking up oxygen desperately needed by patients on ventilators" argument has not, historically, played well for me in the court of law.
Winterous
Ok that's pretty beautiful.

The only thing they’ve learned is to have bodyguards. They still don’t care.

They should fear. The real power comes from the peasants, not the kings. We let them rule and they'd be wise to remember that.

It’s not a comedy though. These people are psychopaths, looking for profit at the expense of people’s pain and suffering. It’s criminal.
Varenvel
you just described entire capitalism not just them.
shankelstoff
It's literally "what makes America great". Many other countries are at least as "free" with at least the same standard of "rights". Except if you are a psychopathic billionaire or a gigantic company. That's what sets you apart.
Sticklebrickk
I could still be a millionaire! - some 70 yo cunt

Sure, if you pull yourself up by the bootstraps and get a haircut, ya whippersnapper!

So a tragicomedy, then?

Dark humor is much like food, water, and shelter in that only some people get it.
kunjava
I have an idea, hear me out.
Let's ask people across the country to choose a few ones to represent the people, and they can collect small amounts of money from everyone and then pay hospitals directly should anyone need medical care.
This way people do not need to worry about getting bankrupt by an unexpected medical issue.
NotSomoneElse68
'Comedy' in stores refer to if things end up better for whomever is the protagonist. Tragedy is if it doesn't. And there's categories. Personal comedy/ tragedy - when the character benefits it not. And Worldly comedy/tragedy if the World benefits or not. So this is personal tragedy but a worldly comedy.
GodAintReal
I hate that we have adopted the bullshit terminology of “criminal” so and so. Our criminal justice system is an embarrassment and disgrace that repeatedly demonstrates its corruption. Lots of things that are fucking terrible are perfectly legal (like corporate greed at the expense of almost anything and anyone) and lots of things that are safe or good are criminalized and/or excessively prosecuted.
Laws are generally created by the systems of power to keep regular people “in their place.”
sortofkindamadbutnotreally
Ive gone a long way down the rabbit hole on US healthcare than I care to admit out of morbid curiosity. It reminds me a lot of old legends about making deals with the devil or the fae. The system does not outright lie, but it will mislead and withold essential information at every turn. No matter how good a deal you think you have going in, the devil always gets his due. Just the fact that hospitals have 2 different price lists for us peasants and insurance buddies should be telling enough.
GodAintReal
(You’re right about everything else, though. 100.)
dombot1
The really scary thing is most of these people are not psychopaths, they are normal people who have got to this point one step at a time. Its terrifyingly easy to lead humans to do some pretty fucked up things if you push them gradually.

It’s a well known psychological phenomenon that people who live in dense populations display psychopathic behaviour when they are not psychopaths.
It’s an issue of context and social stressors. And bureaucrats are the worst bc their focus is on the process and not the outcomes…..like him….focus on the bottom line, lose sight of the fallout.
iusedtodream
And I would argue that each step a person took to reach the point where they deny life saving care was a choice. And each choice degraded their morality until they became a sociopath. Choices matter, and our actions change us. Sure, it's usually a slow process, but these people actively chose the kind of person they are. I have no sympathy for them.
dombot1
I'm not saying I have sympathy for then but I think it's important to recognise that most people are not either mentally ill or evil, they just progressed down a bad path one step at a time, and that anyone can go down that path unless they are very vigilant.
iusedtodream
Yes. And once those actions are taken, they can't be repealed, either externally or internally. Our character is the sum total of our choices. People who consistently rationalize doing small harms will become a person who will try to justify great harms. That CEO is responsible for people dying. There is no restorative justice after death. He earned his end, one small step at a time.

sadurdaynight
I think people are forcing a correlation here. I think the real reason they back-tracked is b/c they tried to make the change AFTER open enrollments were done at companies. So, it was basically bait-n-switch. Let a bunch of employees at companies choose you as an insurance provider. Then, after you KNOW they're locked-in on you for a whole year, change the deal on them. Lot of employees hear about it, get pissed, contact HR, HR contacts ins company, ins company changes back to avoid lawsuits.

Maybe. But also, the genie might be out of the bottle now.
That killer isn’t caught? They’ll be folk out there who will find that impactful.
Someone might even want to be caught.
This new situation has brought factors with it.
Even old Musky has decided to carry about his person a human shield.
I would even say that there has been audits on the healthcare of security operatives working for super rich people who employ that kind of detail.
Sure, the mainstream will go beige but here we are
RuminatingYak
So what you're saying is that we need to keep killing CEOs.

That is what it sounds like.
Noahbalboa82
It's not ideal, but it appears to have an effect

Just enough to keep bumping it up on the news.

No no. Keep on doing it. There is no "just enough" right now.

They only need to tell their shareholders and the hospitals they get billed from. Legally speaking, that is.
