#41 Adobe is the worst offender. If you want to break their monopoly, the first step is to learn how to use alternatives.
For images I use PaintDotNet for simple work and Gimp for more complex work.
For video I use AviDemux for simple work and DaVinci Resolve for more complex work.

If only InkScape could do everything I wanted. There's no way I'm paying for Illustrator, so I just suffer through InkScape and its jank.

Would've recommended Affinity but that was before they partnered with Canva for 'optional AI'. I still have the old software from before then, but it was touted as a viable Adobe Alternative.
There's other vector programs out there that are, to my knowledge, still pay-once licensing. I'll see if I can find a list sometime.

Can absolutely recommend Da Vinci for anyone looking to do most kinds of video work. It's surprisingly intuitive, and it's studio-tier software that's available completely for free, because Da Vinci's business model is based on selling studio hardware.
