I (a Canadian) was in the US a few years ago and saw a whole bunch of fear-mongering commercials about Canada’s medical system. They were all ridiculous.
Do I pay more for my alcohol because it has taxes on it going for healthcare? Yes.
Can I walk into any hospital or doctor’s office and have multiple procedures done snd have a long hospital stay and pay $0 at the end? Also yes.
I’ll pay the extra $10 on my rum for peace-of-mind healthcare!

How insurance works in my country (an actual shit hole of a country): you pay a small amount monthly, in case you do need a medical procedure or if you need to see a doctor. Insurance pays for all of that up to a certain amount of money. There is a max per procedure, and a max per year you can use. You don't pay anything until you hit either of those limits.
Last week I learned what Americans defined as "co-pay", and I was honestly shocked at the concept.

Most dystopian thing about my visit was all the drug commercials casually mentioning the side effects that include stuff like dying from diarrhea, as if that is just a normal thing that might happen.

Same with all the Wounded Warrior commercials. Those men and women gave up the hope of ordinary lives for love of country and the government couldn't care less about them. THose commercials are so much sadder for that fact than they are actually meant to be.

I get my healthcare at the New Orleans VA and it is the best care I’ve ever received. I have a “complex medical history,” and see several specialists. I take a lot of meds. But there is never a problem with any of it because everything is in-house, and the doctors notes, lab reports, etc. can be seen by all my drs. The people who do the scheduling can see my future appointments to avoid double-booking or more trips than necessary. This hospital should be the model for the entire country.

It’s not just the cost of healthcare that is breaking everyone’s back and spirit; it’s also the horrible inefficiency, how long it takes to get scheduled, having to request records be sent between different facilities, having to use multiple portals because the drs aren’t all in the same system, the list goes on. U.S. healthcare is broken on every level, and everyone suffers for it, care providers included. Well, everyone suffers—except the goddamned politicians.

I don't know what you're talking about - I've needed to see a specialist since March and my appointment is already almost here in mid September, that's only 2.5 more months of constant pain and numbness! AND it's only 1.5 hours from my house! 6 months of not being able to drive, work, or do most of my hobbies has been SO. MUCH. FUN. And my MRI only cost me $540 and only took 2 appeals to get approved even though 2 Drs confirmed it. Definitely how things should work! So efficient!

Yeah, when you go to the ER because a NP thinks you're having a heart attack the doctor has to look at you. And then they admit you to the hospital because you're in tachycardia for hours (among everything else). Still getting bills after 3 months.

No it wouldn't. MRI machines and the techs that run them and interpret scans are expensive as fuck, people who pay out of pocket in Europe wouldn't even pay that little.
