Striped hyenas are very shy and don’t have large clans the way spotted hyenas do. Spotted hyenas have the jaw strength to devour bones. Not sure about striped hyenas…

They had a bad rap before The Lion King came out; the movie played on preexisting stereotypes (though I'm not actually sure that's the right word) about hyenas.

Not really. Hyenas are a pretty brutal species. I guess the biggest misconception is that hyenas are pure scavengers when they are more successful hunters than lions for example.

Technically it was from Catwoman *on* Batman. Joker tried to sick his hyenas on her, but she got them to calm down instead of attack (she has this effect on most felines).
