Go fash, lose cash

2 days ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 1

Watched it earlier today - it was awesome… worth seeing again in the theater.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Seriously, why is this getting downvotes? I liked the movie.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's popular... But is it good? Like project hail Mary good?

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's an epic, in all sense of the term. If you watch one movie in cinema, make it this one.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Best guess, having a 5'11" soldier cast because a diversity hire. Also black Helen of Troy.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

cool are they gonna pay back the boat owners?

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I mean, media that patches over how shit it is by throwing in random minorities and virtue signaling tends to be just as bad as the low-effort "non-woke" bullshit on the other side.
Turns out that when you're focused more on making something good than telling everyone how hard you fight in the culture war, you can actually create something that people want to engage with.
...it's just telling of where we are that things that contain any minorities are automatically considered to favor one side.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My only concern with this would be studios focusing their efforts on trying to clone the success and strangling other worthy projects under development or not realized yet

2 days ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Oh, but they're going to do that anyway

2 days ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Unfortunately... More animated films would be nice

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Maybe the movie was good. That's what it really ever was about.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had been missing the post-war saga. This movie is a complement to the story.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did they repair the Viking ship they damaged during filming yet?

2 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Or cleaned up the environmental damage that I got reported for talking about even though it's hella true?

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

omg, just like all those other woke movies that broke all those records making thousands at the box office

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

People who call things "woke" unironically are so weird. Especially when it's about something fictional like this. It's so funny how many people seem to think this is legitimate history. 🤔

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good for them. Still don't really care about the movie, but good for them. Also fuck the studio for the damage they did while filming.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And? Did they manage to pay the damages on the Swedish Viking ship replica yet?

2 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I like how the right says. If it makes money, it is because it is woke. Then if it loses money, it is because it is woke. They really can't decide.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The idiots who complain about The Odyssey being woke are the same morons who still think Jesus was some blue eyed blonde Caucasian man. They never cared about authenticity or accuracy, they're using the Odyssey to mask their weak pathetic hatred.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Do these fuck heads even know what woke means? Like feet to the fire could they define what it means other than I hate it so it's bad

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Nope, they'll use it to mask their racism, sexism and bigotry, but they could never tell you what it actually means to be aware of the prejudices around you in society.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I thoroughly enjoyed it.

2 days ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 3

I really liked it to.

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Found the woke guy. /s

2 days ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

I haven't seen it (has nothing to do with the movie, just me not going to theaters), but I hear that some of his soldiers make it back with him. Is this true?

2 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Spoilers below.

None of the soldiers that go with him make it back. The other ships that leave that have the Punisher actor on them make it back.

2 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Everything the far right says is just fucking so galactially and stupidly wrong.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I have read the Iliad & the Odyssey in high school. I found them interesting & quite informative. Would someone please tell an old person what actually *woke* means to you all, so that I may grasp it better ?

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Well, the version of THE ODYSSEY Nolan was working from was edited by a feminist author who wanted to get the female perspective of the ten-year ocean voyage. Much was made of a black actress playing Helen of Troy, Elliot Page playing a character that wasn't even in the book (and being on the small side for a stormtrooper, I mean soldier) and no Greek deities except for Athena, in spite of the book showing a heavy influence from different ones.

2 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

People calling this movie woke seem to forget; this isn't Homer's Odyssey it's Nolan's Odyssey. Homer's Odyssey made it contemporary for his time, and Nolan has done the same for ours.

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Perception is at an all time low now. Thanks you for offering an alternate truth. Contemporary Homer is welcome

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Good writing and directing is what matters. The biggest complaint they I had with a lot of "woke movies " was that the writing was bad. And it was unfair that the actors got the blame instead of the directors. Because a lot of those movies could of been successful.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Just got back from the movie. What the fuck are they bitching about? I'm genuinely confused. Do they even know?

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The Odyssey is woke?

2 days ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Not really though it has stunt casting so Nolan can qualify for the academy awards. Some right wings pundits bitched about the casting, but the actual reviewers conceded they expected the film would make a lot of money based on Nolan. Lefties are now pretending they all said it was going to be a flop and cheering while ignoring the numerous examples of other films that have fliopped.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 11

just as confused

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Not the Odyssey itself, but who they cast in the movie.

And I suppose a little bit of Homer's little yarn. Something about gay people existing most likely.

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I'll save you the trouble of finding it out yourself. They cast Lupita Nyong'o as Helena of Troy, which is apparently the real reason the modern Nazis call this film 'woke'.

2 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Don't forget the trans actor! Gotta cover all your woke bases...

2 days ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

And they were upset about him playing a character that he NOT ONLY wasn't playing, but a character that WASN'T EVEN IN THE MOVIE because he DIED IN THE ILIAD.

These bigoted fucks don't even know the source material they're claiming to be outraged for.

2 days ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I don't particularly rate Nolan films but I'm glad this one is doing well if only to prove that "going woke" changes nothing.

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think the right is angry that there is a diverse cast including dark skinned and trans people

2 days ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

What I find really dumb is that if they stopped hyperventilating about the cast and dogwhistling about "historical accuracy" they'd realize the actual "woke" part of the damn movie: the fact that the whole thing is about American politics. Why do you think all of the Greeks have American accents and keep talking about how custom and decency is dead after a 20+ year war in the East that turned into a massive quagmire.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That’s the real reason they were made to be mad about it. Not only does it keep their anger up, but it keeps them from actually watching it.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Right, that would do it.

2 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

The movie was.. meh. They portayed odysseus as not really caring if he got home or not.. which is not how the original story went... the visuals were great though.. classic nolan film. The dialogue was also weird most of the time.

2 days ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

I mean, if you wanted an accurate portrayal of the Odysseus story you could just watch O Brother, Where Art Thou. Nolan movies just exist for popcorn spectacle, not for anything related to writing.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I understand that and I am not asking for a perfect retelling but the heart of the story is the guy trying everything to get home... the entire movie he literally did not give a shit if he got home or not and when he did it wasnt a emotional at all.. he just went "ok.. well.. im here."

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Nolan makes cinematic spectacles with excellent visuals, mostly decent scores, terrible storytelling, and shallow characters with dialogue that confuses exposition with "cerebral". I have enjoyed some of his work but they are what they are. Partner went to see it on Friday and basically confirmed it was another of the same. Fuck the right wingers trying to make a topic out of their bigotry though and I'm glad it's doing well in spite of it.

Popular opinion: If a movie is 3 hours long, there needs to be a scheduled bathroom break. Operas and stage plays have always had intermissions for this reason, but movie theaters dropped the ball on this one. Probably because early movies were a single reel of up to 15 minutes. Everyone could sit through that. Before long they had a runtime of 90-100 minutes, which is still survivable without a pee break. But now the average runtime is 115 mins. You can't do that to people with a weak bladder.

2 days ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 4

Early movies were a couple shorts, a newsreal, a cartoon, and the feature film. They ABSOLUTELY had intermission periods.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always go to the bathroom during long movies. I also need to walk as my body wants to move and stretch regularly.

2 days ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The RunPee app was useful when I went to the theaters more often. Nowadays, unless it's an "event" (Avatar in 3D, Odyssey in imax, etc) I'll just wait for streaming.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, before assigned seating intermissions could have been tricky and caused problems.

Now, movie theaters have assigned seats so I completely agree that intermissions should be a thing for any movie over 120 minutes.

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No fluids 5 hours before, it is only thing I can do - Dune and Spiderman next

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

nah if they really cared about user experience they would propose both options. Where i live, when they finally stopped with the 15 minute break with ice cream and coca cola ads i was truly overjoyed and that was around the time LotR came out so its not about movie length. If im paying to see a movie in theaters i dont want any breaks in my immersion. But as your opinion is also valid and many share it, there is bound to be a market for it.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Got that after the credits. He was wonderful.

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They really want you to come more often

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok, you know what, thats dedication. Props

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the 90s we had intermissions on regular cinema movies, about 10 min to get up, pee, buy more food, stretch. It went out of style when the big money-making multiplexes (6 rooms or more) started skipping intermission to fit in an extra movie showing or two in the day. I would appreciate the break for anything longer than two hours nowadays with these movies

2 days ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Went to Gettysburg movie in '93 and it had an intermission, but it was a 4 hour long movie

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You'd think getting an intermission would be a boon for theaters if it means more people would go back and buy more food.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They'd make more money on the snack restock during breaks than an extra screening

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At my local small cinema in the 90s they'd sell ice cream at the front during the interval. Was awesome! As a kid my favourite part of going to see apollo 13.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I went to movies in theaters in the nineties, I'm 43. I've NEVER had an intermission. Intermissions died in the seventies, dude.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There are other countries than the US, if you must wonder. Im 41, sorry you missed cinemas with intermissions, it was a good time.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can hold my bladder for 2 damn hours. I'd rather have more time after the movie, thanks. Intermissions on anything less than 3 hours is a waste of my time.

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of similar vintage, the only film I clearly remember being screened with an intermission was Gettysburg.

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fair, but I'll also point out the theatrical cut of Gettysburg was a full hour and a half LONGER than the Odyssey. 4 hours and 14 minutes is actually worth an intermission. Under 3 hours (which the Odyssey is)? They're just being whiney unless they have a medical condition.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Still baffles me that the right have tagged this as woke.

2 days ago | Likes 359 Dislikes 3

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Liupta in it for maybe 2mins max, Elliot in it for 2minutes max, both act, the movie is 2hr 40mins…

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It helps when a word doesn't have a defined meaning and also you don't know what any of the potential meanings are

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They can't deal with Eliot Page *playing a man* (what **else** would he play?) and Lupita Nyong'o as a Black Helen of Troy -- because they grew up with the bizarre myth that *the Greeks were all straight white people*. 🤣

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They're going to have a fucking stroke when they realise what the "historically accurate" ancient Greeks got up to with each other.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

MAGA has to be kept mad so they can be controlled. Those controlling them that this was their latest thing to be mad at. They don’t even stop to consider how stupid it is to be mad at it, they are just pointed in a direction.

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The reason all the intelligent people are left wing is not because they actually are, but because the left has done such a good job demonizing intelligence there's no where else for them to claim to be.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

What are you talking about?

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Because having an African be queen of Sparta and a four foot trans boy as the greatest warrior in Greek mythology is still fucking stupid.

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 33

Are you still under the misapprension that Elliot page played Achilles?

2 days ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

Woke is the keyword that lets me ignore any fecal mouth dribble that the user posts

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Its not woke but it def has its issues. Im tired of movies with the same cast, and out of place characters. When i first saw the trailer without knowing its the odyssey I thought this was a movie about vikings then as the trailer goes on the more confusing it was. Apocalypto wis one of my favourite movies of all time. Unknown actors, language, visuals all make that movie immersive and impressive. Its so disappointing movies like that dont get made anymore.

2 days ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

Oh, yeah: Apocalypto **was** great: interesting story, well-directed and acted, and made a ton at the box office -- and I don't recall anyone saying "Well, it was made by Mel Gibson: *I'm boycotting it.*" We all saw it because *it was a good movie*!

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just saw this today. I honestly have no idea what could possibly be "woke" about it. It's the same damn story (basically) that has been told for, what, 4000 years? I don't know how old this poem is.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One of the themes, is that by breaking the traditional norms or hospitality you sow the seeds of the end of civilization. This could be read as criticism of republican policy, disregarding checks and balances, ignoring international laws, and refusing to accept that even a king must stick to laws

Or, that nuance has gone straight over their heads andcit just that it has brown people in it.

2 days ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

And also the idea that using a military force to disrupt/control import trading lanes can lead to really bad times for everyone in the region.

2 days ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's the latter.

2 days ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's because of the casting. That's all.

2 days ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 2

Okay, checked IMDB. If I ever hear someone talk shit about the casting, I say "Yeah, Damon? Patinson? Those guys have such dominant Northern European features, I'd rather expect them to star in a historical drama about Finish/Norse Tribal war, in upper Scandinavia then to portrait Greeks." Yeah Nyong'o is Kenyan and even though Agamemnon might have had some Nubian Princess from Egypt among his wives, she does not look like a daughter of that. - But neither does the rest of the cast look the part

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Which is exactly WHY Nolan cast them in the first place. If he removed all the diverse characters it wouldn't change the story at all.

2 days ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

Casting that takes into account 4:30 of screentime in a 3hr movie

2 days ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That, and the fact that Elliot Page dared to get cast in this movie.

2 days ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 3

havent seen the movie yet, but... did he play his part well? if yes....whats the fucking issue?

2 days ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Nope. His part was nothing but trailer bait.

2 days ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

Yes, he did. It's a very small role. Maybe a total of 3-4 minutes? Basically he plays the smallest (and frailest?) of Odysseus' men who is left behind with the Horse to let the Trojans know it's a gift and the war is over.

2 days ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Because he’s a trans man (used to be Ellen Page), and thus is automatically evil incarnate as far as MAGA and fascist wannabes are concerned.

2 days ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

Yeah that's it. Not conpletely miscast for the role of an ancient warrior at all.

2 days ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 11

no no, you misunderstand, I know, my point is, if people has a problem with that, then fucking say it, and show the world how ugly you are on the inside, dont hide behind all sorts of other cr

2 days ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Eliot Page is Sinon (a character that does not appear in Homer's original Iliad, but in Virgil's Aenid, which is a kind of a Roman fan fiction sequel to the Greek story) and apparently does a great job of the part.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Elliot can't act. But also, Matt Damon. Seriously, I am not impressed by Damon at all. Obv I'm just one person, but I'd go see Elliot Page over Matt Damon.

Like I'm glad Elliot can get roles, I think it's amazing. But the man can't act.

Just like Matt Damon. Hate that guy
