Excited for a new job with a better company! Even got a singing bonus to help with relocation. Can't find anywhere to live.
We're basically ideal tenants, dual 6 figure salaries, 800+ credit scores, no other debts at all. Glowing references from previous landlords for us humans and our dog. Our dog Maddie just happens to be an American Straffordshire Terrier.
Even places that are "dog friendly" will sit on the application and wait until someone else with no dog applies and accept them instead.
Apparently this gremlin, Maddie, is too dangerous to live anywhere. She's only 35lbs and is only dangerous to squirrels and tennis balls. But insurance companies don't seem to care. Nobody will rent to us. Unless we're willing to go >60 mins away from work which is crazy.

@op Happen to have a mental illness and seeing a psychiatrist or therapist? If you get your dog registered as an emotional support animal they have to let you have it.

I'm trying to commute by train so I can't get too far away. Moving to a major city was appealing for more job opportunities. But the living opportunities are shit. Especially when you have a dog that is discriminated

You're prolly better off in an Air BnB or similar with that kinda income. Then start finding an actual home / condo you can start attempting to mortgage. Even $3k a month with a small backyard BnB is less than 40k a year.

Any family or friends willing to take the dog in until you can find a better place? I say, if you can, get your job and living arrangement settled first and then figure out the longer-term project of where to live that will take your dog. Don’t lose a great opportunity if you don’t have to.

It may come to that. My spouse doesn't like the idea of "dumping" our dog on family but until we're settled in a new city we may not have a choice.

Having been the dog vacation destination on multiple occasions, just make sure you work out vet info and what costs (food, etc) you'll cover before leaving your dog with someone. I was actually pretty sad when a family member got married and we weren't needed to dog sit anymore.

The restrictions are insane. They want vet records, photos and even if your dog "looks like" it has the visual appearance of a "dangerous breed" it's banned. No mixes allowed. 0% dangerous breed allowed.
Trying to find for rent by individual owners isn't going much better. Many say pets allowed on the advertisement but say not allowed on the actual application. Bait and switch.

You might want to try extending your search area down to the Lakeville/Freetown/Taunton area. Commuter rail service is pretty decent and it's way more affordable.

Look into have them certified as emotional support dogs, I believe they can't be denied or charge you pet rent or a extra deposit.

Emotional support animals didn't get the same rights as actual trained service dogs, because they didn't require any actual training or certification. Just twenty bucks for a vest from Amazon and a paper that means absolutely nothing. People have abused the loophole so much it's closed.

Emotional Support Animals are still allowable under the Fair Housing Act. Generally, a note from a treating medical professional should be able to provide evidence of them being used for that purpose.
Trained Service Dogs are under the Americans with Disabilities Act which regulates their use in public spaces.
