EDIT: Monday Frontpage once more! Thank you very much everyone! I do reviews as a hobby, and this week I played Terrinoth: Heroes of Descent! If you wanna know what's it about, check here https://youtu.be/RIwlfBskPkU

#15 oddly horrifying.
CrisprCAS
#10 Shepard then let him 'calibrate' her 'flexibility' with his 'reach'.
pikopikopikopikopiko
#2 go check out Alice Ruppert's work, she's a great Swiss game developer and does amazing things for horse games, if you're into that thing
jethroismaxbaer5772
#6 I remember hearing once that Square Enix gets to do whatever they want with Final Fantasy because Dragon Quest is what pays the bills.
EverNotRelevant
Low key hope it's true, but I kinda doubt it
notsurewhattocallthis
#5 i need another frame here that adds the brown hat and Eggman saying "PERRY The Shadow The Hedgehog"
KleptoKea
Yes!
Huor
I would love to play as a Mongolian courier!
16KTS
#1 Then we look at Sony. Yeah…yeah.
Poppypoppoppop
#2 or death stranding but on a horse
MasterMookie
I remember playing dungeon keeper when I was young. Torturing men etc. Mom didn't care. Few levels in you get women. Then suddenly I wasn't allowed to play the game. She didnt care about the pain of men but women thats where it stopped. So yeah thats when I realized my mom was sexist.
rareunicornmeat
Couldn't play Diablo. Played Warcraft II for DAYS and Doom at my aunts when we're allowed on the computer, but killing demons was a bridge too far. Not that it stopped me, I nearly died buying the game and running home to install it, change the shortcut icon and name and ONLY load it up when she wasn't in the room so she never saw the title.
LordTrollington
#9 I'm suddenly reminded that my Arma3 group are in this game as the most annoying enemy ace squadron "Bad Dudes", I still haven't gotten the chance to shoot myself down yet
m6514309
#2 gonna have to keep an eye on that, riding around in RDR2 was good shit.
expectnothingstillletdown
#6 FFXIV is WAY more of their cash cow than VII is. Pretty much every department of Square Enix is in the red except for CBU3. They'd have gone out of business years ago if they weren't propped up by that game.
whereismymind86
Afaik the estimation is ffxiv makes square around 30 million a month just by existing (based on sub estimates)
Kugartun
And here I thought it was tifa.
TheFastpaws
#3 I remember every time my mum told me I missed something or did something wrong in chores. It was never good enough.
rareunicornmeat
"You don't get an allowance because you don't do a good enough job to have one."
Septcanmat
I’d come home from school, “Mom, I got a 96 on my math exam!” “That’s great! Do you understand what you got wrong?” I get that she was trying to be supportive and make sure there wasn’t anything specific I was struggling with, but it really took the wind out of my sails.
TheFastpaws
Yep, sometimes you just need to hear good job and it be left at that! Perfection doesn't actually exist and many parents need to learn that.
xMalkav
I feel you, boss. "If you just did it right the first damn time I wouldn't have to yell at you!"
TheFastpaws
Thankfully she didn't yell. It was a polite tone. Just nothing was good enough. It was always imperfect and needed improvement or I missed a spot mowing. It eats at you when you really just need to hear a good job just once without a but in it.
anononanonanona
#7 I don't know what the artist is actually trying to say but I definitely facepalm literally any time I see anything resembling card mechanics shoehorned into any game. Always a huge disappointment.
snatchingbabies
It can be done well; i remember actually being really pleasantly surprised by Midnight Suns despite being very skeptical. Its definately something that needs to be meticulously thought out and, ideally, have enough player choice that you dont get RNG'd into a loss
Wasnbo
Could be the dissonance between the grimdark setting and the deck-builder mechanic. Could be general exhaustion at the rogue-like deck-builder style. Personally I didn't care for Slay the Spire, so the absolute flood of imitations was/is incredibly annoying.
TheFastpaws
#8 It was a good game and it should have sold more.
smashpro1
The only games in the series that sold more are the original and Metroid Prime 1?
TheFastpaws
It sold well for a Metroid game. I'm saying it should have sold more as a game because it was very good overall. Not just a good Metroid game.
Kotarisu
#6 I swear the only reason FF7 is so obsessed about, is that it was the first one in 3D and on PlayStation.
whereismymind86
Oh absolutely
Stolf
It was a lot of people's first introduction to jrpgs. It was for me at least. FF was not a series I played on the nes and we didn't have a super Nintendo. There's a big nostalgia aspect to 7
Draygen
I played 7 long after it was relevant and new, and having had nearly a decade of people telling me how cutting edge and amazing it was, only to finally play it and be horribly disappointed. Yeah, I think a big part of its initial appeal is just that it was shiny and new, and not Pixel Art style.
thekeyofe
I genuinely enjoyed FF7 when it came out. I have replayed it multiple times in the decades since then, I think it still holds up. And that's not just nostalgia talking, I really do think it's a good game. Aside from the god-awful blocky PS1 graphics, I would favorably compare it to any modern RPG.
SpikesGuns
Agreed. I think a large part of it was Sephiroth being such an iconic antagonist. There's a saying that a story is only as good as its villain. Dark knight has Heath Ledger's Joker, and FF7 has Sephiroth. I also think the pacing of it was excellent.
quicksilver1
and the first one released in the PAL regions unless you consider Final Fantasy Legend part of the mainline games.
DrakeDoe
wadatahmydamie
By 2043, one in six games will be a shitty FF7 remake
Skullwriter
It was also the first of the series to go full-on 'cyberpunk'. But I agree that its extremely overrated.
EverNotRelevant
It's not cyberpunk? At all? Perhaps you meant "dystopian"
TiroDvD
Yes the 3d phenomena for normies. Remember all the grandstanding against video game violence with GTA? Well it actually was GTA *3*. There were already 2 other games about stealing cars and being criminal but nobody cared b/c it was top down.
Same with Frozen vs. Tangled. 2D stuff is "just for kids" and 3D doesn't required more brain power to see what is there.
Also with Wreck it Ralph. The audience would only laugh after seeing the full 3D and not the same events with pixel sprites.
wadatahmydamie
GTA 2 was controversial at the time. I had it on the Dreamcast.
djevelen
If i remember correctly, there were actually 4 before GTA 3 (i know counting is hard for game companies. the Obvious GTA 1 and 2, GTA London 1961 and 1969. and with a quick search, 2, '61 and '69 all came out the same year. The grandstanding started LONG before GTA 3 as well. Mortal Kombat in 93, which was the spark that led to the creation to the ESA and ESRB.
nikinnorway12
Yeah, FF6 is peak Final Fantasy imo. So good.
Kotarisu
nikinnorway12
and it never got better than this.
slopwizard
It's because we all love the materia system, existentialism, and cross dressing
MechKelly
Never played 7. 9 was my introduction to the series and it still holds a special place in my heart.
MightyIink
I liked FF8 better but I feel like it's always pushed aside because of 7.
Keitterman
I dunno, 8 had potential, but the whole "oh yeah, we forgot" part of the story was a bit too much for me. Tifa not mentioning that Cloud's account of the past was total BS was a stretch too, but at least it could be argued that she was just holding her cards close.
IlluminaBlade
FF11 basically carried the company financially from the mid 2000s until they fixed FF14's bad launch but they seem to hate to admit that.
joegod
This is objectively correct. During the period from 14’s launch to its relaunch. FF11 was the only thing bringing in any money for the company. Kept the company going. Not enough respect gets thrown that game’s way.
spacecowboyein
I liked the vibes from ff8 better but the combat system was nuts. Completely tied into a card game and rather convoluted. I actually liked it, even though you could trivialize the game with the right combos by the end of the 2nd disc. But I also get why a lot of people would dislike that.
satanslittleposter
The combat system was nice, it did something different (FF7's is comparatively milquetoast), but with that came the fact that it couldn't be balance adjusted later and yes, was very cheese-able.
I will clarify that it was no way completely tied to the card game (also Triple Triad was the best minigame Squaresoft ever released), the card game made some thing easier but you could get everything you needed for op builds from combat draws.
