Most of the MEs I see who don't get hired out of the gate had no internships and terrible grades. Everyone else gets hired where I live.
There are several fields of engineering; some with low unemployment, others... not so much. My field was destroyed by the economical crisis

Most of the MEs I see who don't get hired out of the gate had no internships and terrible grades. Everyone else gets hired where I live.

Pretty much any job involving math or comp science has you do programming. Even most bio majors have you learn basic oop. Good skill to have
