I wanted one until I saw the build issues. Final nail was Elon going full right wing crazy. I won’t give him a dime.

that is gonna LEAK when it rains

3 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

They already do. Most notable are the tail lights and headlights

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Evidently all Teslas leak in the rain, but particularly the Model Y and the Model X. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0EgvaKrfIs&t=26s

“We’re not a car company. We’re a software company”

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 1

Same way Microsoft is a software company. When they built hardware, we got the Zune and original XBox.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Hey the OG Xbox was cool.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh so the software is really high quality with no major issues right?..... right?

3 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

yes. you all are the beta testers in real life. with real people at stake. and real lives at stake. SHITslas have more deaths and accidents per km/mi travelled than ICEs

Probably $100k for something that looks like it was thrown together by a bunch of drunk monkeys.

I didn't realise British Leyland had made a comeback.

Amazing. Cockney-ish, Irish-ish, and American tourist all in one sentence.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they'll be back just as soon as they work out how they can make an electric car leak oil :-P

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

British Leyland actually allowed their workers to strike.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh, you’ve been around awhile!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah, yes! The Leyland P76. Meant to bring Leyland out of the doldrums in Oz, but was such a lemon it became the nail in their coffin.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was a good car, but holden and ford got to the unions, they went on strike at a crucial time, and the car failed due to lack of supply.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They took a steep dive after covid especially. I suspect the reason is because they don't have an auto union, so when they had to lay people off, they may have just switched careers. And when they needed workers back, they had to hire brand new untrained people. Whereas Ford/GM/Ram/etc calls union workers back.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

One hundred thousand dollar vehicle there.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Good thing you didn't pay twice as much as a comparable car from another vendor... Oh wait, you did?

3 years ago | Likes 241 Dislikes 21

tesla starting prices are around $30k-$35k nowadays I thought though yeah? I mean, elon bad and all, but more people buying more electric is good and cheaper prices

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 8

Lol, no. The model 3 starts at $40k and tops $70k with options. $130k for the top models and options.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

At at $40k will save on average $2k/yr in fuel, and more if you drive more than that. You can only hit your high numbers if you add full self driving for a ridiculous $15k... But someone looking at the cheapest option doesn't really care about how high it can go.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

For a long time comparable cars from other vendors didn't exist. Glad we're past those days.

3 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

I hope competition goes fiercely against Tesla, to throw this shit out of market.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I love my ioniq 5

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is what I'm looking at right now. Glad to see positive reviews!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think Tesla might go out of business when the bigauto makers enter the market en masse.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

At the rate bigauto is moving, they'll be declaring bankruptcy before then. Probably when China moves in to eat their lunch before their slow bigauto asses get into gear... In the form of buying their names and parading them around on Chinese designed cars.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Lol. Who is paying you bot?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Lol who is paying you? Looks like bigauto puts money into absolutely anything except actually ramping production to "compete for real".

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My 5 year old dacia lodgy has some of these problems. Like now. And i could buy ten of these for teh price of one tesla...

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was there ever a time when Teslas were built decently or have they always been bad?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Vancouver is quite frankly blanketed in fucking Teslas. There are so many better options out there, yet it's 100 Teslas a day. I actually hate those gatdamn pieces of shit.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think anyone's even made a computer that bad since the mid 80s

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A few years ago, I was seeing a lot of Teslas in my area. They have diminished quite a bit in the last few years.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

More and more here in SoCal. My 15 houses on my street and there are 3.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m in so cal too. It was the hot car and we were considering it. My in-laws too. They got a different one and yeah, it’s been visibly obvious haw many fewer there are.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Own a model Y. Have none of the problems this guy is showing in the video.

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 5

I've only seen THIS video get posted in regards to: "heres a vid proving teslas are cheaply made"....Kinda sus that this seems to be the video getting reposted. But would anyone really go on the internet and make a misleading video like that?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

If you search “poor Tesla quality” in YouTube you get a bajillion videos.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That's all well and good...I was just commenting that this specific video is the only one I've seem hit front page on imgur for whatever reason

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The internet tells me the ones built in China are higher quality. Not a Tesla owner.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congrats, you're a beta tester!

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I refuse to buy from this monster’s company. I’ll pay more for a luxury brand ev instead. ::waits impatiently for the Macan EV::

this would be funny if they didnt spend 420.69% of their time online defending lil muskkkie and could actually afford their own vehicles, or even a SHITsla. instead of needing to drive their mom to work in their mom's car, in order to be able to use their mom's car to go defend the honor, virtue, and virginity, of their supreme memelord against what you said in the forest

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought you were supposed to carry a coil of optical fiber so you could bury it and within 10 minutes some yokel in a backhoe will be along to dig it up.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I get that musk has turned out to be a bit of a dick but there is more Teslas around atm and not a single one I’ve been in has these issues

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

How did I know this was a Tesla before clicking the video

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wendover on YouTube has a good video about how Tesla completely blew their lead, and their shit build quality definitely played into it.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

SHITsla's days are done. stock is going to $0.69420 a share.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

absolutely ZERO innovation in their battery technology is so god damn funny. Welding together ~2000 vape batteries was the original founder's idea and it was clever in 2008, but its 2023 now and they got leapfrogged by way safer flat packed cells from real car makers

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Tesla is using different types of packs and chemistries across their lineup. LFP model 3 and y in China use prismatic construction batteries. Cylindrical cells in the rest. They have 3 different size cylindrical batteries. There are definitely changes in battery technology, though I think the more exciting stuff is now outside of Tesla, who is more focused on expanding. Our Next Energy has a cool dual chemistry design

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And yet somehow those safer packs are the only ones suffering fleet wide recalls.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

yeah theyre built by real car companies not a tech company that ignores any and all regulations

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a garbage argument. Most tesla fires are the result of a collision unlike spontaneous Chevy Bolt fires, but tesla fires are still only half of Bolt fires per capita even if you count every single tesla fire including ones where the car was lit from an external source.

Elon musk is a POS but I love my damn Tesla

3 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 10

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 14

I mean ok but if I bought it before those statements doesn’t mean I’m complicit. I think we all agree he is a POS but so is every CEO you buy products from. He’s just more visible.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

i was just joshin u

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's well known that the trim and fit on Teslas leave a lot to be desired but it's a quality vehicle overall

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 6

If my piece of crap 15k nissan has better over all build quality than 50k+ tesla. Then the tesla's over all quality is complete horse shit. I dont have to worry about leaking ruin my car, or parts falling off. Thats a pretty shit level of qa.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

That might be the experience some have but mine has not. And it’s fast as fuck. Believe me. I am not Elon musk supporter - but my experience is that car is amazing.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Who the hell cares if its fast. Most people arent exactly taking a tesla to the track. So its fast as fuck at 75 miles per hour? LOL

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Acceleration. Family's got one that I leech off of when I can, and it is incredibly nice how quickly you get to the speed you're trying to get to, both speeding up and slowing down.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is a bit like saying, "That Schicklgruber guy is such a nazi, but I love my Volkswagen."

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

No, it's really not. Not everyone needs to be compared to nazis. Like you're allowed to use other things.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Considered a Model S for all of five minutes until I saw one in the flesh and it looked like it was put together with a slingshot. Ended up going for a shorter range city EV that fits my needs perfectly, and is built way better.

3 years ago | Likes 549 Dislikes 10

@verone3784 what did you get instead?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A Honda e. Little thing is built like a tank, drives like a go-kart and is packed with tech.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think 8t looks cool as hell.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, and incredibly well built. Suits the Icelandic roads very well too!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We just bought a wrangler 4xe, and I"m in love with it.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And they so $$$$$$

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really wish hydros would make it in the US. Honda makes a HVAC unit for 10kusd that makes heavy water from natural gas. That sounds WAY better than all the shit byproducts of EVs.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But what's the realistic top speed of a heating/ventilation/air conditioner?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol. For those who dont know, It means you can make the fuel at your house.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So on Honda's page here https://global.honda/newsroom/news/2023/c230202eng.html they never mention the term HVAC, but they do mention FCEV. And a google search for "HVAC vehicle" was basically all related to the type of vehicle HVAC installers drive. Methinks you may have had the wrong acronym in your head.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lasting positive Ellen may have had is making electric cars cool to the mainstream. Hopefully over time that impression lasts and remains marketable, profitable for companies to continue making more, and better ones

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ellen lol

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The handles seem like they’d break a lot too.

3 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

I know someone who is an early Tesla adopter and he has had to replace ALL handles on the vehicle at least once

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My partner has an S and he's been in multiple times for the door handles. He's on his 2nd S and this one had door that didn't close right so it was always open

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

why on earth would he get a second one

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tesla had that first mover advantage and squandered it on hype instead of investing in quality manufacturing.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Yep. He got an extended range Nissan Leaf and we love it. It’s solid. No regrets.

3 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 1

Same, we love our Leaf! Just have to see how we'll fit three kids in the back :)

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That will be hard. We have one in forward facing and one in a booster and there isn’t much room between!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea I know. So far we have a baby car seat in front and a reboarder in the back. It'll be a tight squeeze into the middle seat for me with another forward facing one in the back, and my husband will have to drive always bc he def can't squeeze in the middle. I fit just barely hip bone to hip bone. We'll see how annoying it gets and then switch cars if we really have to.

It feels weird when couples follow each other’s posts here…like the equivalent of two people sharing a facebook account

3 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 0

It's weird, but also fucking awesome to be in that type of couple. Ppl think codependency is bad, it's just living and loving your best friend.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

No, codependency IS bad. Definitively bad. Bring-in-a-therapist-bad. It’s not romantic or beautiful or anything like that, it’s super unhealthy

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Well, turns out codependency is basically the opposite of what I meant. I learned it means that one person is the giver and the other is a narcissistic taker. What an odd word for that. My bad y'all.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Oops. Sorry. I meant to write we. Not related to the previous commenter at all. Talking about my husband and I.

3 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

My wife doesn't understand memes, so there's no hope of her joining.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mine isn't a regular either but between us it's a nice amount of bullshit covered

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We got one as an Uber (whatever the upgraded version was called 4-5 years ago) once and HATED it. Sitting in the back seat felt like we were sitting on plastic and everything around us was also plastic. So uncomfortable.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah the one time I ever sat in one the entire thing squeaked like rubbing plastic on plastic. Every turn, bump, just caused more of the shit trim to make noise

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

0 problems with mine. Best car I have ever owned. Elon is an ass though...

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 8

Yeah. I can only speak to the Model 3 I've got, but agreed on both counts. Haven't seen any of the production/build quality issues everyone absolutely assures me should be there. Musk also sucks rancid farts.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

perfect fit and finish on my nazi car

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

Near every single major corporation (including the car manufacturers) is owned/run by shitty billionaires who do the exact same shit as Musk except they're less loud and stupid about it. IMGUR itself uses Amazon Web Services, and Bezos ain't any better. He's just quieter about it.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Elon is a hater monger who bought a platform to increase his hate mongering. Bezos is just a greedy fuck. I'd rather deal with the greedy fuck.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Bezos bought The Washington Post in order to influence what could be said about him or his companies. Don't get me wrong, Musk sucks donkey dick. But Bezos does the same kind of shit, just quietly. Arguably, that's even more dangerous, as people aren't as on guard against his bullshit. My point is that it's nearly impossible to avoid using products that are owned by shitty billionaires to some degree. Instead of turning on other consumers about it, we should be focused on the billionaires/corps.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You better be driving a Ford or a Korean car, otherwise you also are driving a Nazi mobile or a communist mobile.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have news for you about Henry Ford

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

And, you can't repair them at all. Real shame they were named after Tesla.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

And since then they've changed a lot about end user repair, including releasing the maintenance manuals for free and making parts available for purchase at service centres. They even reached out to Rich to get his input on how to improve access for people who want to make repairs.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's a baby step, but they still don't want outside mechanics repairing their cars. There are Teslas in junk yards for minor damage.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And there's videos on YouTube of people buying those for pennies and fixing them up, so it's definitely possible.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Possible... But a costly nightmare.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Especially when a new one is like $32k

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Better name would have been .Edison. Which seems to fit muskys mentality better (sound)

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yes, it would have been a more fitting name.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Been seeing more Teslas in my area. Most likely soon Ford and Chevrolet will have affordable electric vehicles with better services. At this point it really seems more like a status thing. I mean, go green 100%, so go ahead, buy it. But don't act like you're superior when you paid bank for a poor product from a shit person. Anyway, support electric vehicles and green infrastructure, but also try not to support assholes.

3 years ago | Likes 257 Dislikes 16

It will get there but grid capacity needs to increase to support the new electric fleet especially those that need fast chargers. Like in order for them to put a fast charger on our shop they have to pull a new line from the transformer to support the power demand

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

lots of manufacturers already make better quality, more affordable EVs than Tesla. Tesla's early-to-market advantage makes them a default choice, but that's not going to last unless they can sort out their quality problems without raising prices

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Teslas are hardly green. Best example probably being the batteries.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Tbf he only exposed himself as an asshole recently. And I'm pretty sure all corporate CEOs are also assholes, just quieter about it. There is no truly ethical car purchasing decision. All corporations are greedy assholes.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This here. Until he showed his actual face, he seemed like a wierdo, which is great, rather than an asshole, which is not.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My sister up in WA owns a Chevy Volt, I wish I could get one. I am stuck with a 2000 buick. It may only have a 40/45 mile electric range, but that is way more than enough for any of my daily driving and even when on gas it is way more efficient than a friggin buick. Sadly they are discontinuing them!

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

PHEV is where it’s at. I have a 2017 Volt. I almost never use gas except for longer trips where recharging would be a PITA with a Tesla. It’s battery is about 1/6 the size of a full EV battery, so less initial carbon footprint. Unfortunately Chevy abandoned their Voltec platform to go full EV. But Toyota is taking up the mantle now. Prius Prime and Rav 4 Prime look like great options.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People: We want an electric mustang! Ford: best we can do is a rebadged electric explorer.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

GM already has affordable EVs. The Bolt EUV starts around $30K and has over 200 miles of range.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't count on Ford, Chrysler, of GM to produce anything that won't break in the dumbest ways possible. Several years in a shop has taught me that they won't exceed expectations because they know damn well that whatever they churn out people will buy. Then again, they might develop a knack for it, but my experience with the three leaves me with HEAVY doubts on their abilities to work with wiring and circuitry.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I swear vehicles are deliberately designed to fall apart after the warranty period. We always get a pre expiry inspection that comes back always 100% great, I book it in again couple days after warranty goes and it's wild how many issues suddenly pop up in under a week. Then I get my previous paper and say "looks like that should all be covered then since 1 week ago none of these problems existed." Needless to say we won't be buying chev again. Shady aholes, and shit product.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Over here almost all Teslas are at least one generation old, Almost all new EVs are by traditional brands (mainly Mercedes and KIA)

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ford or Chevy, yes. Or even real cars like BMW, VW, Opel, Audi or Skoda. You know? With gaps less than an inch.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Completely ignoring how much emission is created in the manufacturing of a EV battery, if you drive electric and you're charging at stations, you're still using fossil-fuel made electricity and you've made zero difference other than satisfying your own morals.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Electric cars take x4 the amount of metals as a regular car.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think Chevy just discontinued their cheapest EV for some weird reason.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Heard rhe Ford mustang was absolute shit

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s more environmentally friendly to drive a used car. But I get that doesn’t solve the CO2 emissions from the tail pipe of the used car also.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just eat less meat. That's one of the best things you can do for the planet.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A Mach E is is like $47K MSRP. A Tesla model 3 is like $41k MSRP. The electric Ford focus was $30k MSRP. The only reason people bought Teslas originally was for the free charging which most of their cars no longer receive. It's not that other automakers aren't making affordable EV's. The Chevy Bolt is something like $29-30K MSRP. It's that Tesla owns the infrastructure in a lot of places. Even BMW are making EV's for like $30K (see the electric Mini). All these cars qualified for tax breaks in

3 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

Tesla and other companies are working on a deal for universal chargers, so the infrastructure will start shifting soon as well.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have the Bolt and I love it. It was relatively cheap and Chevy put in a 240 volt charger for me as well. I've had one problem with it involving a battery monitor bug, but a firmware patch resolved it. Definitely better than a Tesla!

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

There’s an electric Focus??

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

There was from 2011 to 2018.

Hyundai/Kia are going to be huge in the next 5 years. I love the look of the Ionic 5 and that is just the beginning

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

previous years. And none of them have quality problems like what Tesla is seeing on a wide scale.

3 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Weren't all the Bolts recalled just last December because their pack batteries were catching fire at an alarming rate? Didn't Ford recall a bunch of lightninings due to battery problems just this spring? You've got a bias if you think that GM and Ford haven't had quality problems with their EVs. Tesla having fit and finish quality issues at least won't burn your house down.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As I said before I another comment we're not talking about the HEV batteries or anything like that. We're talking about what was discussed in the video above which is trim and panel build quality. Since that is what is being discussed and since both Ford and Chevy have recalled those vehicles to fix those issues, that's a moot point. Tesla is not fixing the build quality issues showcased in the video above. Tesla has had it's own issues with recalls for batteries and seatbelts.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Teslas also being investigated by the federal government for their self driving features because they don't drive safely and often perform illegal moving violations. Haven't heard a word about a Chevy just merging into a lane with no signal or blowing through a stop sign on its own. Your move though.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Um 2018 - 2020 Bolts were catching fire at an alarming rate, but to be fair it was an issue with the Korean batteries - just in case someone is considered a used Bolt.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Chevy replaces the battery for free with a better one. Pretty much like getting a brand new engine after driving the car for 25-50k miles.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah but pretty much all automakers seem to have had some problem or another with catching fire. It's not just a problem with EV's. What I'm talking about is actual factual build quality. Tesla has always had problems with that. A lot of other car brands haven't. Not on a grand scale.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

IIRC Tesla has surpassed the Ford Pinto on being the most problematic vehicle in history.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If you really wanna go green, drive your old car into the ground. Between 60 and 70% of emissions a car is responsible for over its life are released during production. Once your car is dead, sure buy electric, but it's better to use up an old gass car than it is to buy a new electric car. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/green-living-blog/2010/sep/23/carbon-footprint-new-car

3 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 3

I'm driving my 02 civic until one of us dies, he'll probably kill both of us though. Can't go over 55 bc it feels like the car is going to split in half.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This. It is almost always better both for the environment and your wallet to keep your old car running than to replace it with a newer car, even if the new car is more efficient. Keep your old car until it's more expensive to fix than it's worth.

What about buying a used diesel engine car? They've already been build. Might as well use them. And they can drive way more km than e95

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's what I've been doing. I've had my beast for 16 years. I try to drive as little as possible and offset my carbon footprint in other ways. Next car is an EV.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it depends. Putting your car on the used market reduces demand for new ICE cars as well, so you can't make the decision in a vacuum. If someone will drive it into the ground, that's the most efficient. It doesn't necessarily have to be you.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

it is more that producing electric cars is bad for environment , depending where its produced over its lifetime it will produce 10-25% over its lifetime more then petrol engine and this factors both fuel and electricity used for both , also these stats dont factor how terrible for environment mining lithium is. will that change in future? idk but right now they are not "green"

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

How will it produce more pollution over its lifetime than an ICE car?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this ofc is very dependant how your country generates power , majority of world still does by fosil fuels , if you live in countries who are near 100% renewables or you got your own sollar pannels you can dip into green territory https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/electricity/images/outlet-graph-large.jpg this is from 2022 USA, majority is still "fosil fuels"

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and mind you renewables are not 100% green (nothing is) and people get really mad when you start factoring co2/polution from all sources , becouse they think wind , solar or geothermal does not generate any(magical clean power) , but producing it , repairing it and "recycling/decomissioning it" does too , its not "miracle tech" but it it much better then counterparts

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If the choice is "100% of your vehicle energy from fossil fuels" or "60% and falling", I think it's pretty clear the latter is a better choice. EVs aren't a panacea, they're a net improvement over ICE though

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It really really depends on the manufacturer, for one. And for another, as the grid produces less carbon you get those improvements for free with an EV. If you live where major investments in renewables are ongoing, and you choose the EV carefully, it's likely that buying an EV now will result in far less CO2 over its life. Too many studies assume current mixture will persist

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that is true , but it also depends on your country and local area , even most eco friendly car wont do that well if most electricity is fosil fuel , idealy , you would use solar pannels if you can have them at home to charge it or suplement some of it , but honestly...not having a car is far more eco friendly option , bus , train , bike , im aware we dont live in perfect world and you need to get to work , but if you can get away with not owning a car , dont , you be saving money too.

It's a known fact that Teslas are built like shit.

3 years ago | Likes 1499 Dislikes 27

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Kind of related, an ex-gf bought a bare-bones "key and a heater" Kia Sephia in 1995 and that little car is still going strong!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a model x owner for past two years, I'm super disappointed with build quality. I've had to drive 3 hours to get issues fixed with mine 4 separate times in 2 years. Yikes. My parents' model 3 on the other hand has been a delightful, reliable car for 5 years.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And driven by Bad Drivers who shouldn't have a driver's licence. Tesla drivers have replaced BMW driver for Worst Drivers on the road.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

People buy Teslas because they're Teslas. It's all clout-chasing nonsense. "Look at my status symbol!" The exact same reason that people buy high-powered Bavarian cars and VWs.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

My older friend refuses to believe it… I brought it up to warn him not to but NOOO …. Whatever dude!

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

every trusted, standard, industry metric, always puts them in at the bottom. the only thing they excel at, is charging speed.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I’m pretty surprised to see Mitsubishi so high and Porsche so low.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve had 1/4 of the cars on that list and don’t believe it

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As are most American cars. Yet Tesla is the worst of them all.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And have even worse brakes.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's not fair. They're competently built to spec... they're just designed like shit and no amount of competent craftsmanship can make a bad design serviceable without changing the design.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Well the ones build in Germany are good so its more a workers issue, most likely underpaid overworked people in the us as we have laws to protect workers

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The Chinese built ones we get in the UK are also made very well indeed. I'm not sure what that says about American manufacturing, haha.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Almost like they’re trying to tank the electric car. Like tanking a worldwide communication service. Or space travel. But who would try to destroy such great advances for humanity?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Even newer ones from The Big Three feel like the insides are made out of crap plastic

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

yes. but they arent falling apart like this shitSLA. there is a nig difference between cheaping out on material, and build quality.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Who downvoted this? I take plastic interior over leather interior with the car falling apart around me any time.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am willing to give some slack to a brand new company, as long as it appears that they're striving to make improvements. However, with Tesla, it's been over a decade now, and, if anything, their build quality is somehow getting worse.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Is the build quality getting worse? How old is the posted video above? I'd bet that car was manufactured back in 2017-2018 when the build quality was crap. I've heard significantly less issues about 2021 and later builds. I've owned mine for a couple of years and haven't needed any service beyond rotating the tires. Every time I see one of these "Teslas are crap" videos, it is always cherry-picked from older models. You can find crappy builds of other brands, but nobody would care.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

I agree that Elon is a dipshit, however, I bought a 2018 Tesla, you know, back when the asshole seemed to care about quality and customer service, and the car is fantastic, none of these issues. Also, Elon does built the cars, he’s just the idiot with money, the car is built by hard workers and engineers

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And yet people are massively buying them. It's absolutely frustrating how shitty people get rewarded. The guy pissed away 40b on Twitter and is still the richest man ever. Seriously what the furk

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's a reason they get more range and have more power than other electric vehicles at their price point. Anyone buying them not knowing that is just playing themselves by not researching the car they buy or the alternatives.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Children today don't take any pride in their work.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How do you know it's a Tesla? They are, but I've not seen one up close enough to know how to tell the difference w/o seeing the logo.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 38

It's a repost. Previous post identified it

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Because this post has been made a billion times, they are no worse then other cars just fun to hate. Elon sucks monkey balls but the cars are ok.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

I have no opinion one way or another. I love that the technology has finally been proven viable, but hate both the price tag & that the person who owns the company has decided that he'll never be rich enough unless he takes everyone else's money. I'd love to stop being so reliant on fossil fuels, but unless someone has a permanent solution to Muskrat's Money Problems, it's not something I'll ever be gable to afford. Financially or ethically.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's tough because the cost of ownership studies say they are actually very competitive price wise, but if you don't have the upfront funds that's an irrelevant argument. Elon is a giant piece of trash, wish he would leave tesla. I bought a used one, elons association was nearly a deal breaker but the charging network here makes it hard to get anything else. We have really liked it.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My apt complex has charging stations in front of each building, & hardly anyone has a vehicle that needs one. I don't know that I'd ever buy a Tesla, even used, but maybe one of the other companies can come up w/ a vehicle design that would make the purchase worth the bank loan for me.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Weather stripping and door seals falling off a brand new car is not "no worse then other cars." Especially not in those price ranges.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It's nit as common as this reposted video seems to think..

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We love manufactured outrage.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in the Bay Area and holy smokes there are a lot of them. Every 5th car on the road is a tesla. The other 4 are massive trucks

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My Jeep GC looked much the same.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sound

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

So much so, that the republicans are now laughing that musk tricked a bunch of stupid liberals into buying shit cars.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I honestly think if someone else owned the company, production value would be higher.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I spent YEARS trying to convince my husband of this and it’s only since muskrat went mask off that he’s started to believe me

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Non-union labour.

3 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Union labor wouldn't be any better IMO. I worked in a unionized ag equipment manufacturing facility for years. While workers saw some great benefits and protections, making a high quality product was never part of a vast majority of their goals.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and they want to export chinese made SHITslas to the rest of the world. lol rip in piece

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They're not great. If you have Tesla money, save up a little more so you can go straight to a Porsche Taycan. More comfortable ride, better built, and genuinely faster. You can carve canyons with it, no problem. Available in wagon or sedan.

3 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 5

Such an awesome car

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I expect to be down voted to hell but a base model 3 is ~$30k after federal rebate. It's among the least expensive EVs in the US. https://www.forbes.com/sites/brookecrothers/2023/06/04/tesla-is-doubling-down-on-model-3-discounts-creating-problems-for-ev-rivals/?sh=3a262f979057

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A Porsche Taycan is at least twice the price of a Model 3. With incentives, and tax-credits I think you can get a model 3 for around $38k now, depending on your state. Model 3 overall cost of ownership over 5 years is on-par or less than a Honda Accord. Not sure where the "Tesla money" concept is coming from, they aren't that expensive.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The video states Plaid

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bonus of the Taycan sounding like a badass spaceship even at walking pace

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

May I interject an option: go down a brand and own something genuinely useful. Given the money, I'd go with a Hyundai, Polestar or the like. Once they branched away from building the 3 and roadster, Tesla's build quality went to absolute trash.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The Ford Mustang Mach-E is really nice.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was thinking about one. If I have to start commuting to work again, I'll give it a look.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have a Hyundai Kona EV an Volvo XC 40. They’re fantastic EVs

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, people have been misunderstanding my comment as "the only way to go is up market", but that's my preference showing. You could go up, down, or horizontally with this. Also I was thinking of the Model S at the time. I've driven, ridden in, and delivered service parts for Teslas. I'm happy we own a Camry hybrid instead.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah, dang... I meant Model S as well.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fucke even if you have Tesla money, buy an EV from a real car company, like an Audi, or Merc, or KIA. Or anyone else who knows how to car.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Meh. VW/Porsche is not an ethical company either.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Now list any company (period) that is "ethical".

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, no shit, none of them are. I don't buy cars because the companies are "ethical", I buy them because They're well built, they fit my life, and I can have fun driving them.

3 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

'A little more'. Dude, it's like $100k more. Triple the price.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The car in the video is the plaid version apparently, which starts at about 136k. The Taycan is about 87k.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The base Taycan, which is not a valid comparison. To get comparable speed you'd need the one over $200k. Also, the Plaid is overpriced PR fodder anyway. Also, as with any car, the top trim is basically the same quality as the bottom one, just more gizmos and/or power etc.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you have Tesla money and can save a little more, go for the Lucid. They’re pretty much the cars Elon wishes he built.

3 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

Also an option, but not one I'd go to. Matter of taste.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, Elon vs Saudi is our choice: https://www.makeuseof.com/who-owns-lucid-motors/

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Rivian!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So both horrible choices. Any other EVs worth mentioning?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fisker? I don't know much about them, but heard a friend who is similarly turned off by Tesla mention it.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Ford Mach-E (I refuse to call this a Mustang), and Hyundai Ioniq 5.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lightyear 0, made in Finland, Valmet Automotive that makes also for example Mercedes-AMG cars. Valmet Automotive is world's biggest contract manufacturer of cars, has made Porsche, Saab, Mercedes Benz for a while now... Combine robots and human workers to make the cars, worked there as a trainee one summer. Neat place, but holy fuck it is big.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Two reason ill never buy one, 1. Built like shit 2. Can't afford it

3 years ago | Likes 175 Dislikes 1

Yeah you're not buying it for quality, you're buying it for experimental tech.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3. Elon Musk is a twat.

3 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 0

*Twatter

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

An insult to twats.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fuck Musk forever, but I doubt you have a lot of car choices if you want to buy from a company whose CEO isn't a complete piece of shit.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

That's true, but I don't know the CEOs name of Toyota and he's certainly not plastered here with anti trans and far right conspiracies every other day lol.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

4. More fires per Tesla built, than the fucking Pinto.

3 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 2

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

oh yikes

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

if you're old enough, the Pinto comparison makes more sense.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If this is for real, can you show the data? That's fucking scary.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Reports vary between 27 to over 500 deaths for the pinto depending on if you ask Ford or Mother Jones. Tesla is currently at 62. What I would suggest is looking at Nissan Leaf and it's limited fire deaths in comparison.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No is not, afaik but Tesla burn twice more often then other BEV of the same Age. Which still means 10 times less then a ICE Car of similar Age, other BEV are at 18-20 times. So Tesla's are the Pinto of the BEV
