Do they ever show Ben Hur?

Looks expensive.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This looks like a way better use of this technology than seeing a concert (a la the Vegas sphere).

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahh...Cos, or some say, Cosm. Grant us eyes!

Cos, some say Cosm

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would I want to be in Texas? (and I was BORN there)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Where is this? I live in Dallas and have never heard of it.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sure, there's this place with $18 cocktails and a $12 kids hot dog... But the TOILET SEAT ART MUSEUM is right there! Also, Fountain Life Dallas is saying "Don't die of something stupid." Like paying $18 for a cocktail.

They tried this in the UK but some wanker headbutted the camera

Does it show the Cowboys losing like in real life?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bet they do an amazing Pink Floyd light show.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Railjack from Warframe or go for a proper classic, Descent II on that screen. This TV show would also be fantastic on such a setup https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerial_America

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck that would be cool.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But how does it work? The real stadium could have 360° or stereoscopic cameras that can gather the 3D data, but the image parallaxes based on your position in the bar? Is the view screen still massive and distant enough to mimic depth? Is it curved onto a ~1/5 scale miniature of the predictable shape of a stadium (with a projected image)? Is there a multi-angle display similar to lenticular filters? It might be more obvious in person, but I can't tell what is happening from a 2D video.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I read the reviews and you will find the illusion works only for some of the reserved seats on the second floor. Everything is is obstructed or distorted. A 21st century forced perspective where a few people enjoy the best view and the rest get to be jealous.

I want to go on Aurora Borealis night where it's really chilly and the lights are low and we all bundle up and order cocoa and watch the Northern Lights together.

2 years ago | Likes 156 Dislikes 7

That sounds great - would be Aurora Australis for me though 🙃

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Ooh I would love that

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 2

Oh dang, do they actually do that? That's awesome!

Imagine being there and, for almost a few minutes, you absorb the verisimilitude, feeling like you’re there. Then an ad for Fan Dual explodes in your entire field of view like some unholy epiphany as you spill Shiner Bock down heaving your chest in spasmodic palpitations.

Thank you, I needed to read this before 6 AM to reorient toward the horrors and out of the dream state.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ok, I'll read your book

So what do they do when the sixteen seconds of gameplay stops for a commercial?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

But can I experience the swearing and morbid interest of a trashy alcohol induced opposing fan fight?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That whole ode to capitalism and football actually looks terrible to me :( guess I'm just weird

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One of these in L.A. too. Going to be a whole trend

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait, I'm confused. Are they not really at the game?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a giant micro-LED display if I'm not mistaken.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn, you need like a before and after (on and off) for this, it's pretty convincing at this resolution at least.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Put on your binoculars to see a play and all you get are giant pixels :P

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do you "put on" binoculars? Most people just look through them

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Might be a regional thing, in Australia I picked up the term "put on your binoculars" as in "put them on to your eyes through which to look", similar to "put on your glasses"

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

The tradition persists. Good work lads

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That’s amazing. And a terrible view of the game.

2 years ago | Likes 281 Dislikes 10

This is for people who enjoy the game atmosphere rather than necessarily caring about who does what on each play.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Looks pretty good to me. You see all 22 players AND both sidelines.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That view yes, but they use cameras all around the field so it looks very real. It's a neat idea, but it's probably just as expensive as actually going to the game

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah you'd think after going through all that trouble they'd give you better "seats" in the stadium.

2 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 4

Those are great seats. They're literally some of the best in the entire stadium.

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

If you've got binoculars welded to your face, sure.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

50 yd line tickets in a seat like that at the Big House are gonna run you $1000 minimum (at least for the OSU game)

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's not even remotely accurate. You can see where the view is from. It's the back of the lower bowl.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Looking at this frame The angle its being filmed at means we can see rows below the seats. That does not appear to be back of lower. More like the low end of the highest. Maybe a dozen rows higher than them. The bar seats look like the mid seats but that does not appear to be the reality. Not the cheapest seats but far FAR from the best. Plus the limited resolution of those screens/projectors means closer is almost always better.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If you sit much closer you can't see the whole field well.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Exactly. I've sat from row at midfield in several college stadiums and it's vastly overrated. Depending on stadium size and layout, the best seats are either middle/rear of lower bowl or front of upper bowl. You have a great view that provides a full picture of the field that really lets you see how routes, blocking schemes, and coverages develop.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You think the NFL or NCAA would allow an alternative to paying out the ass for better seats? Iirc this requires a specific camera positioned in the stadium to provide decent quality...if I had a choice of a few hundred dollars or to go to this place...I think the choice is clear.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

https://www.cosm.com/dallas They can have different camera angles. Plus being that far away is all about the atmosphere instead of about the sport itself. They have some shows that are ringside.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Football is absolutely better to watch on TV than at the game. I'd much rather watch basketball, hockey, soccer, and even baseball (boring af to me, but I love the Fenway vibe) live, but football I want to watch on TV to actually see all the plays well

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Don't get me wrong, tailgating is great

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're at midfield and sitting towards the back of the lower bowl. Those are objectively great seats. Having sat in both seats in this area and 50 year-line first row, these seats are better (unless I'm by the opposing team bench in which case I'll make up for it with vicious heckling). I'll take this view over the crappy broadcast view any day.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

I mean that’s the kind of view you get for most seats at a football stadium.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You think after that place closes for the night, the staff plays Doom on that thing?

2 years ago | Likes 553 Dislikes 2

Probably Animal Crossing.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I worked for an internet provider in the 90's in a huge 10 story building. We used to play unreal tournament multiplayer matches while we were on phone calls for long meetings with the head office. And that company still managed to make hundreds of millions of dollars and pay us fuck all.

They probably put on Fox News.

LOL. When I was in college (and Doom had just been released) I worked as a techy for the university's theater... And yes, we played Doom after hours on the BIG SCREEN with the AMAZING SOUND SYSTEM.

I will say my peace about doom. I'm a JRPG and fighting game main, and I think Doom (2016) is one of the best games ever made

First job in IT at a community college that’s what someone would do in a conference auditorium. Computer hooked to the large projector/screen never had a login for the… let’s say challenged boomer teachers who struggled with pushing a power button…. My
Boss was pissed after he re imaged and set it up twice and got a call each time it was full of pop ups, spyware and crashed. Turns out a security guard at night would sneak in and enjoy his porn on a giant screen.>
