Got home at 3pm(9am New York time) wanted to watch some tv(i was 12) and alle the channels had the same building on fire. Being from Europe I had no idea what the significance was. The national TV channel were quick with explaining the significance of this and while I was watching it the 2nd plane it and that changed the commentary very quickly by the hosts. It was quite surreal bc I didnt realise the impact. I was too young to understand it all. Coming from a poor family, WTC wasn't even ever spoken in our household. Only later when I grew up in was better to understand the impact, mainly by documentaries on TV about it and reading about it.

I was just chilling when the TVs turned on and we watched the first tower burn then the second plane hit live. I lived an hour or so away. Many kids had family there, they started freaking out. They announced a plane missing. Then the dismissals came until me and a handful of students were left. By the end of the day we could see the black smoke from the top floor of the school.

It just sort of appeared by accident on screen. We didn't tune in to see it. We didn't know we were going to witness it. It just came on, our eyes where there just because it was switching over. NGL im from a generation after and I have very very little sympathy for trauma from events that literally didnt effect you personally whatsoever. Mostly this ends up meaning cold war nuclear fearmongering and 9/11. Modern kids (not me, its gotten worse) have that happen to them on a bi-yearly basis to people they actually know while every system you took for granted as a kid disintegrates around them.

However I argue it did effect us all personally. Those who were alive when it happened- in America and maybe abroad. We were kids- with technology nothing like today. We lived it- and as technology shrank everyone's world- we've all become desensitized to tragedy.
I don't think the accusation of folks taking the system for granted is fair, however. None of us, past or present, asked for any of this, and a lot of us were kids when it happened. No kid fully understands adult systems.

Got up and went to the living room to watch our tv on full display of the first tower hit while mom was in the kitchen.
Watched someone giving an interview on the ground live- and the confusion and shock as a plane flew overhead and hit the second tower.
Told my mom and her immediate response was "that can't be an accident, then."

I judge daily cost by my local ice cream parlor, that has been around for 80 years. As a kid one scoop cost me 30 pfennig (germany), then 50. Then we got the euro, and it switched to 50 cents overnight, which was double the cost. No it's 1 euro 20 cents a scoop, which is about 8x as much as it cost in the late 80s! 8!!!

I was a senior in high school in Government/Economics class. The teacher let the corner mounted CRT TV play the whole time. I was in band when the first plane hit. The music wing didnt get word of the news. When i got to my next class, the previous class hadnt left the room yet and were all staring at the TV. The teacher had to assure them that their next class would have the TV on too and they needed to go. Then an announcement came on for all teachers to turn on the news, and that convinced the students to move on. We just went from class to class watching the news. No lessons were had.
