As someone out-of-the-game for 25+ years, I would think that as soon as she said it and did the pose, the first thing anyone would do is look for the camera. I would just assume that it was “for content” now a days, and that there is a 50/50 shot i was being punked “for likes”. Does that factor into younger people’s decision or am I just out of touch?
So does she like him? I didnt see the "i like you" form signed in triplicate, notarized, lost, found, lost, found through dire eldritch means but as ashes, reconstituted through far more dire and esoteric eldritch means then pinned to the town square notice board with the leg bone of a fell creature best left unnamed...
Just in case you actually don't: Lady walks up to guy and says "My friend over there thinks you are cute" while pointing to an empty space. She then fills that space herself. The implication is that the 'friend' she is talking about is herself and that was just a way to tell the gentleman that she thinks he is attractive.
The way it is done draws attention & expresses interest while also being indirect enough to allow for rejection without making a scene or privacy if interest is returned.
So a girl actually did the "my friend thinks you're cute" thing to me thing at a dance, in middle school. It was in the gym, with bleachers, and I was near the top row of the seating. Girl comes up to my awkward autistic ass, tells me her friend thinks I'm cute and eaves to dance, and points to literally the furthest corner of the gym, where there's like two hundred kids. I was like, "which one? I can't tell who you're pointing at." After a few attempts I was so overstimulated I just said no.
I'm getting a vibe, but I don't want to be 'That Guy' The BEAR "Dude. Make a move!" Some Tate Bro 'If you don't. I will.' Every other Man in the Venue, "LEAVE HIM ALONE!"
With my luck I'd go over to chat her friend up, only to be told that she doesn't like me like that and I'm just a good friend. The nicest, sweetest guy friend ever.
I genuinely thought she was motioning to the open door like there was a cat or dog in there. My dumb ass would have walked in there thinking that's what she meant.
My mind has equivocated flirting and being friendly. I need a neon sign saying “I’M FLIRTING WITH YOU” and even then I’d probably be too nervous to do anything.
It's not you. Everyone flirts differently. One person's flirting is the equivalent to another's just being friendly. Most men mistake friendliness for flirting at some point, which in turn causes them to consciously or unconsciously question pretty much all interactions with women going for. Many will adopt a better safe than sorry approach.
Eh, I'm just straight up oblivious. Apparently I do it as well and have no idea. I've been flirty with other women in front of my wife and not even really noticed. Luckilly I've been the same way since we started dating so she isn't offended by it. Also It's not like I'm going DAMN NICE ASS, so that probably helps. Although I've done that too, but usually if somebody is like saying hey how do these pants look or something. And I'd say the same to a male friend. *Shrug* Equality?
It's not the abusers really.. it's the backlash from it. Now it's for some reason accepted to just view everyone as "unsafe", a pervert, etc. That's why these jokes of men not getting it started. They notice it all the time.. it's just a constant battle of "does that mean I'm allowed to approach??" And if he reads it wrong there can suddenly be life ruining consequences.. we need to get rid of abusers obviously but also people that are abusing the overreaction.
I can cast my mind back to a couple of times when I clearly didn’t notice what was going on… in the 1990s.
I’m sure some is post-MeToo but it’s absolutely not the main driver. The truth is that a lot of people are oblivious, and a lot of people are bad at flirting,
Not necessarily. For me, it comes as a combined result of my low self esteem and a response to the one or two times I did "put myself out there" and got rejected hard.
I would also add just being kinda dumb and oblivious to what im not directly focused on... thats also a factor. So added up, if you flirt with me, there's a 15% chance ill catch on.
AnonOmis1000
Things that will never happen to me. This also includes being at a party. I'm not a fan of them ._.

Step1: be attractive
TonyDiethelm
Why are you like this?
The bar is SO LOW these days that you can trip over it by being polite and decent and kind with good spelling and grammar.
And you're in here throwing a pity party for yourself? Pull your head out of your own ass!
PostHartmann
You're attractive aren't you? :)
Kbantar
I'm average at best, but a few women have flirted with me over my lifetime.
PostHartmann
And a few more have and you didn't realize it.
Kbantar
I would say that I doubt it, but my GF said one woman was overtly flirting with me and I didn't notice. She found it hilarious though.

I'm slow but I've got it. This was 300% more direct than any woman flirting with me for the past 40 years.

Woman here, I also wouldn't get it. I assume everyone is just being nice.

I've found the best method of flirting is being really nice and funny until she falls in love with me. This never works, but that doesn't stop me.

I love mentioning how my mom had to tell me that the two women "fighting" over sitting on my lap were flirting. But I was a mere 24 at the time. lol
shitheadtookmyname
Yeah honestly that's me too, and now the Internet has got me terrified that when I'm friendly to a kid, I'm flirting with them
somebackup
This is a result of women's safety intersecting with men's fear of being perceived as an unsafe guy. Until we lose the abusers, this won't change.
MrGhostbuster
That's part of it but mostly different people show interest differently.
