You've never been around bandsaw blades i guess, lol. They are incredibly springy, even thick ones. This is in some kind of track to hold it in place, but the pushes flex the band and it has to relax, which happens at a different time than the push.
The wheel is just riding up the gullet over the top of each tooth, contacting it the entire way. Seems like this may be removing too much metal though.
Think of how film projectors work. The supply and take-up reels are spinning smoothly, but each frame is held stationary (stopped) in front of the bulb for ~1/29 of a second.
It's not only moving left to right, but also front/back which is why it appears to move constantly from left to right. On the left it's being pushed and on the right being pulled. If it were fixed on a track or between a guide with little wiggle room so it couldn't move front/back it would mach the push-pause perfectly.
Another way to describe the "averaging" think of the arch in top loop as a spring where, even though the energy being stored in the spring is coming in discrete steps, the release of the energy through the spring is constant. "Instantly" more stressed, but continuously releasing.
Yepyep, it's like dumping a one gallon bucket of water per minute into a tub with a hole in the side.
When the tub fills enough, the flow out of the hole will oscillate around the 1gal/min rate, but the intensity of that oscillation will be nowhere near the size of going from 0 water added to 1 gallon of water added.
Since it circular, away from the point of intermittent force addition, the effect of it gets "averaged" into continuous motion. I'm struggling to explain it better than that.
Oh I see, because it's circular and flexible, it's not that it's 'moving' but it's both flexing and unflexing the circular shape, pulling it in one direction while pushing it in the other causes the circular shape to shift around. I get it, thanks for clarifying.
It looks to me that the holder/guide in the background is doing a lot of the work smoothing out the motion. The stepper moves the blade forward, the blade elasticity absorbs the stepping motion against the friction of the holder, smoothing it out.
