No, I went to school for narrative art. That’s all. There’s not a single criticism here that’s about the art used here—the art is actually quite good. The storytelling, however? Terribly inefficient. Wasted panels. Convoluted exchanges. A punchline that falls flat.
The art is fine. The idea itself? Needs work.

Art is not just the pictures. The text is also not just part of the whole of the artwork but art in and of itself. And you are taking a strictly utilitarian view of that part of the artwork. If you went to school for this you should try and get a refund because it should be easy to tell the difference if you were educated on the subject.

Read the comic again but from the viewpoint of someone with no prior knowledge of the characters or the story. I hope you understand whatever inefficiencies you saw are now needed for the comic to make sense, have a good flow, and make a joke about a strict but oblivious mother bribing her daughters girlfriend to make sure the daughter doesn't date any boys.
