This will be implemented in blue states.

At last people are realizing the Jim Crow laws the US has been living under for the past sixty fucking years since the civil rights movement. Maybe now we can stop having any fucking requirements for voting

This is something explicitly given to the States, not the Federal government. And for this exact reason.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, get a passport, now! The orange don't want the Miodterm election. NOW!

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of my pet peeves is people referring to any method of voter suppression gerrymandering

It is just an embarassement how disorganized almost every aspect of government administration is in the US. You had a few yokels, that have never seen a proper administration, in the 1810s spitballing some fucked up procedures and run with it for over 200 years now.

Starting with government IDs, voting process, ambulance, coroner, policing, seperation of jurisdictions and last but not least Jury courts. It does not get much more barbaric then Jury courts.

On the other side of the coin they want to make it harder for visitors to US - "Under the new proposal, tourists from 42 visa-free countries may be required to disclose five years’ worth of social media history as part of their ESTA application before entering the USA. They may also be required to provide a selfie, fingerprint and DNA biometrics, along with any telephone numbers and email addresses used over the last five and 10 years, respectively...."

6 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Heh I don't think they have to worry much about visitors if that goes through.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Interestingly, it's the "blue" states where a lot of people do not have a passport. So, go on, treacherous moron.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Okay, so while this is absolutely "the ship has a huge fire" bad, it's not quite "all our watertight compartments are breached and we're sinking without enough lifeboats" bad. (sorry, watching Oceanliner Designs)

Government-run libraries can still process passports, and there are ~17,000 of them in the US. To be sure, this is a naked attempt to cull voters…but I suspect anyone affected by this is still within reasonable range of a public library that can help.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My library doesn’t and it is public, government run, etc.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Imgurians: I need you to understand that this is why states like Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi continue to be Republican strongholds. They limit polling locations in every election, forcing in-person voting by denying early and mail in voting, while also *limiting where and what hours identification issuing offices are open.* In Alabama and Tennessee specifically, in 2016, 2020, and 2024, some had to drive over 250 miles to find an open location.

Yet, at every turn, people at this website scream "FUCK TEXAS! FUCK FLORIDA!" while also supporting literal anti-Progressive, right-wing talking points like "if you are not a Repug, you should just move from those states" as a defense when others point out gerrymandering, closing polling stations, etc. You're part of the problem with your shitty, often horseshoe theory inducing reactionary bullshit like this. You ignore obvious gaming of the system because "fuck the south".

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Then you suddenly remember this is an issue long enough to upvote and write a witty comment on a post like this, only to return to being stupid and acting "uninformed" to scream "FUCK THEM!" later for upvotes. You espouse Progressive ideals right up until you actually have to show them through Progressive actions, then it's right back to being Libertarians with "if there's no work in a state, just move states" level bullshit, except for voting. You're part of the problem.

Local election officials your lives are at stake.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Post offices will still process a passport, as will local courthouses.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is not law requiring a passport to vote, don't be fooled the elections are run by state rules. Register now and check often and vote as if your life depends on it. Because it does.

6 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Laws don’t matter anymore.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I didnt know my library could do that! I went through the post office when I got mine.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

seems to me that his biggest fan base are people who likely don’t hold passports.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You cheat on taxes, cheat on wives,
Cheat the innocent out of their lives.
Don't interfere while we make our selection
Keep your tiny hands off my election.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

pretty sure needing passport will hurt them more then it helps them.

Great again.

Ratfucking is an American slang term for behind the scenes political sabotag

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Election interference right before our eyes in real time. This. Is. Just. The. Beginning.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This idiot lost the 2020 election--without any of this shite that he's trying to implement. If he can get these things implemented for the 2026 election he is still going to lose. People are going to vote.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most racists have never left their home town, let alone been to a different country lol

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This isn’t Gerrymandering. It’s called ratfucking. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratfucking

6 months ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 0

Interesting. Thanks for the knowledge

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And Roger Stone is one of the last of the OG ratfuckers.

6 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's actually voter suppression, along with him saying hes going to kill mail in voting, that people are going to require 2 forms of ID. Since likely most secondary forms of ID people have are a birth certificate, a social security card, or a school or work ID.

6 months ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Utility bills or a lease often count, too.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

All voter suppression is ratfucking. Not all ratfucking is voter suppression

6 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Last time I checked most right-wingers don't have passports. I'm not saying they'd really fuck themselves with this law, but...

6 months ago | Likes 195 Dislikes 1

Don't need a passport to farm the same 40 acres as your pappy and his pappy and go to the same church as your pappy and his pappy

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They don't want their voters to be able to vote either, that's the thing. They want a dictatorship and always have.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

All right wing ideologies eventually lead back to the centralization of power into a single figurehead that they all want to be.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's made to make voting more difficult for women. Passports should be free or almost free not the $400 or more per person like they are in the US.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They will just selectively enforce it in battleground states

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't know any MAGAts with a passport, why would they leave the country

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They'll just ignore the law for the red states, but enforce it for anyone who is in a reliably blue district. The entire premise is to make it difficult for the out group to vote.

6 months ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Not for all of the red states. It will be heavily enforced in PoC Communities

6 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Only counts if you don't vote Republicans. If your vote is Republican which Ice will observe your passport isn't needed.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you're white in the right county, such a law won't matter to you.

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'd bet BIG money that local election judges will be the point of challenge. I mean those people that work the polls. So it can be discriminatory.

6 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

wouldnt be the first time

6 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Hopefully not the last, either.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's cute that you believe they play by their own rules.

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The women that have remarried 2-5 times are really going to get fucked over. I really hope this fucks over the red states more than the blue ones.

6 months ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

They won't try to enforce them in republican areas.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"But I vote Republican!"
"Oh I'm sorry ma'am, just let me tick this box... okay pick a booth and enjoy your vote!"

6 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

As usual, it will. But it won't stop them.

6 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nobody's going to be checking ID in the red states. It'll be over-enforced in blue states. "I'm not convinced this is a valid passport. Sorry. You're going to have to leave the polling office."

6 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Then it's time we volunteer at the polling offices and such and have good people there.

6 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm a blue voter and won't be able to vote.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Alabama requires a gov't issued ID for state elections. They can't require it for Federal but when you show up at the voting location and they have both elections happening concurrently, they don't make that clear.

They passed the law requiring a gov't ID - and only the DMV can issue them. They then closed all but four DMV offices. None are available in rural areas. People who don't have a driver's license have to drive two to four hours in many areas to reach a DMV office.

6 months ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 1

And only because they don't explicitly say it do Americans not understand that being anything less than rich in the US is effectively illegal.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Huh. Normally they do that and then close all the DMVs in the urban areas so African Americans can't get state ID's without taking a whole day off of work and figuring out which busses run once a day to and from the lily-white suburb DMVs. (Gonna point out if you don't have a DL, you ain't driving any hours to get to a DMV)

6 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Many people drive without a license all the time.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 questions. Are you trying to spread a lie? Are you misinformed? Are you having a laugh?

A Passport is a government ID. Usually you can get them at you local post office.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

One question: Are you an idiot?

6 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Hey look! A Nazi sympathizer!

6 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

A Passport costs $165. That makes it a very steep poll tax.

Alabama lets the Country Registrar issue a Gov't ID. There's one per county. The counties range from 550 sq miles to over 1600 sq miles.

6 months ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

Omg drama, 1600sq miles is 40 miles x 40 miles. So average drive of 20 miles. My closest DMV is 12 miles away and I live in a major city in California. Takes me as long to find parking as it does to get there.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

have you considered that not everyone drives?

6 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes. I'm not objecting to getting people an easier way to register to vote or get IDs. *Especially* if someone needs a passport. I'm objecting specifically to using a completely disingenuous shock value figure like "1600 SQUARE MILES." Sensationalism. People don't travel in square miles. Say 40 miles, so we can talk about 40 miles.

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that cost of passport is also possible excuse used to take the case to SCOTUS. You can not block voting behind a price. its in the constitution.

6 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that has worked so well at stopping them before.

6 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

constitution is obeyed more than not as the wording in some are not clear (such as right to bear arms)
Others are clear in meaning and paywalling voting is one of those

6 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nobody requires a passport to vote. If you have one, great, but the states can issue those idiotic "RealIDs" now.

6 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 7

The realID does not satisfy the mad king. Its not even good enough for the ICIS murder gang. Did you miss the point entirely?

6 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I did, thanks. Because OP didn't mention or link to the SAVE Act at all. Luckily I have google so I could figure out for myself what everyone is mad about. Requiring a passport to vote in federal elections is more nazi "paper please" bullshit.
