Superman was never meant to be a smug self superior bastion of conservatism, but the problem is that for the early post-Golden Age of Comics period until the end of the Silver Age (roughly 1946-1971) he was often written as one due to several factors; he hasn't been that way from the 70s onwards in comics, but unfortunately many people grew up with that version, and ancillary media's portrayals have often been inspired by that period (but not its silliness unless Mr Mxyzptlk is involved).

I watched a review of his review because there was no chance in hell I was intentionally watching a video of his. He basically lists why it's good and just says it's bad. Like he got it, he understood all the points but his fucked up worldview makes him not get it.

It's pretty good. It doesn't treat you like you've never heard of Superman before, skips all the origin story stuff that we've all heard/seen/read a thousand times, and doesn't take itself ridiculously seriously. It's fun, and the cast all nail their roles.

It really brings back the feel of the Christopher Reeves superman movie. Maybe a little bit of the DCAU superman as well, but in an adult movie because the *Other* people can curse, and there is real danger. It's a very good movie.

Were you entertained? That's the bar of a movie for me. Saw it in IMAX and although it was totally inspired by the Woman of Tomorrow comics, it's still different enough to be entertaining. The inclusion of Lobo wasn't a distraction, which I feared.
It was good. Go see it yourself and watch it for watching, not to review it for a podcast.

SHIELD is not part of the US government, it's controlled by the UN. While Captain America represents an idealised America. So you could easily read it as propaganda against the UN and pro American exceptionalism. The same shit the right has been pushing for since basically forever.
Granted, that's not the only way to read it, and there are numerous other stories, so I'm not saying it >is< propaganda. But that "elite group considers itself above all laws" thingie always sat wrong with me.
