When this song came out in Evansville, IN there was an actual local phone with that number. A friend of mine would prank call it with the radio blaring every time it came on. Poor people. Lol. Land line pre-caller id
I don't ask for numbers. I give them mine. Makes things like this way less awkward plus you really shouldn't assume someone will give it personal info.
Had a girl catch me off guard by taking my phone and putting her number in it and texting herself. I had no idea what to do! I mean she has a bf but she was massively flirting.I had to let it go, honestly nothing I could do. She was perfect other than that. Still the best and worst day of my adult life. 7 years single and thhats the first time I've gotten any attention from the opposite sex. I need a drink, holidays suck.
I had a job for ten years where my desk number was one number off of this one (X67-5309). The number of middle schoolers and drunk people who would call and leave messages asking if I was “Jenny” was in the hundreds by the time I left. Monday mornings I could usually count on 1-4 of them. I’d put them on speaker and the whole office would laugh at the best ones.
I only gave wrong numbers when I felt like the guy was being really pushy or made me feel unsafe. Maybe something to reflect upon in case it applies... and it may not - she might just have some personal stuff going on and wanted to leave it as a good memory.
i feel like its better for a guy to give a girl HIS number, so that the chick isnt feeling forced to give up her number if shes feeling unsafe.. idk, i know id appreciate that much more instead of someone i dont really know asking for my numb
All the German girls I ask out must live together, the number they give me is always 999-9999 and they're adamant about it, like they REALLY want me to remember it.
2000 was definitely different than the original, but if you cut out all the crap and focus on the music and performances, it is great. I don’t even mind the kid.
Oh yeah, I loved the soundtrack. Not as great as the first film, but some great ones, John Goodman was a nice addition (he's not John Belushi, but he works).
Back in the '80s while stationed in South Korea, I wandered into a small on-post bar and found Tommy Tutone playing. My friend and I requested "Jenny" over and over for the next 2 hours because it was the only song of theirs (it's a band, not a guy--who knew?) we knew. They were so pissed by the end of his show. That made it even more hilarious.
Haha! Used to get absolutely fucked in the Woodstock bar back in -94! I'd request CCR's I Put a Spell on You, climb up on a table, mime the lyrics and then perform kneeling air guitar solos. It became a regular thing. Some people physically fought me to stop it, but on I went.
Most of them were just regular folks who pretty quickly got annoyed and the phone companies were like, "We're just not going to give this one out anymore," after the original listings asked for it to be discontinued. IIRC a radio station somewhere picked it up for their area code.
I have questions... 1) Do people even still 'pick up' in person? I thought that died off years ago. 2) Is this a general "no thanks" number, or something else? 3) Why would anyone do this rather than just saying "look, no thanks"?
1: Yes. 2: It's a number that features heavily in a song. https://youtu.be/6WTdTwcmxyo 3: Because men are women's primary natural predator and it can be safer (and certainly easier) to blow him off by letting him think he succeeded instead of risking some sort of escalation.
Yep. I think I’ve been threatened after rejecting someone (sometimes politely, sometimes by just not responding) more than a few dozen times. Every time is terrifying. You learn how to use different tactics to get yourself out of potentially bad situations. And every single person who reacted this way was a man.
Won't lie, America is a weird place. Just when you think it's a civilised country, they pop out with more crazy shit like "women can't say no to a man without being murdered".
It's not but it's much more of a problem there. 95% of American women have had "unwanted sexual contact", vs 40% in the UK. Incidentally the number is 35% for men here, roughly the same in the US.
