Edit 1. Wow I just realized this went viral! I’m a long time lurker. Today was the first day I actually started posting content. In honor of big cats send me cat pics!

Edit 2. https://imgur.com/a/IGfCM shamelessly promoting my last post, because it's my masterpiece.

Anyone got source?

Im just saying. That maybe, just maybe! Extinction is a path of evolution. I understand it sucks. Maybe there is a reason for it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

more like "you are zero threat whatsoever. Ain't I cute?"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What's with all the simpleminded dinguses here thinking this man is being literal? Get over yourselves, you fucking twats

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lol....indeed

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And behaving all friendly like that is why there's only 300 of your kind left...lol

Without the pictures, the subtitles makes him sound like a stalker.

@OP killing it.. ;(

Alternatively, she was a basic bitch and saw him pointing a camera her way.

Some cats are out there living on the streets without top hats. Please make sure every cat has a top hat

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

I'm doing my part

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

FFS. It's a female! At least give it a flowery hat.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm doing my damned best you know!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

And you did very well.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The cat probably likes people because of their tranquilizers. Gotta tranq em to move em. Cats like drugs

8 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 4

That or the massive amount of latent pharmaceuticals we ingest produce some interesting highs.

No she's saying "come scratch my belly ya idjit"

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

They have been known to prey on the weak and stupid

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What are NatGeo photographers supposed/allowed/ordered to do if an animal such as this becomes violent when they are takings pictures?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Exactly what any other ther sane person is meant to do.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Shit their pants?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yep. It's in the contract. The "Brown Clause"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Die for the cause, of course.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Because cause.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They weren't calling for help, you just weren't a murder target for that day. Consider yourself lucky.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's actually pretty sad. When cats do that, it's a sign of surrender. She assumed the camera was a weapon. She's saying "Don't shoot me."

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

OH shit what?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I mean think about it. If your species is endangered by hunting, chances are you're relatively aware of the danger of an armed man--

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Further, if you are to put your stomach to the air, it is exposing vitals. You wouldn't do that unless you either feel safe or powerless.--

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It's like placing down your weapon with your hands up; it shows you're not a threat. Now, to a Lion a camera probably looks a LOT like a gun

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

He's conveying an impression of an internal emotion, not a literal fact, you hobo

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I know its not a fact, but still his "impression" of his work is too damm high. You tugginguru :P

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

tugginguru lolll

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hold up theres only 300 lions left? Do what? What happening.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Is it a lion or is it a cougar? I’m not sure.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Those fucking dentists, man...

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You had me dazed and confused for like 30 seconds until I remembered that story

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those are the symptoms of a dentist on the prowl, so watch out, they are running out of lions.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably a specific subspecies of lion, I think some of those are in very low numbers while the overall species is just in low numbers.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Asiatic lions, maybe? They're hella rare.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Call me crazy but I don't think the cat was trying to "there are only 300 of us left".

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 5

*say

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The photographer had an agenda and used the cat picture to project his feelings. Just as he stated "I felt".

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Highly doubt she was thinking that. More like "I play all cute. human is put into a false sense of security. BBQ ribs back at home tonight!"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Belly scritches!

8 years ago | Likes 373 Dislikes 4

Is this a cry for help? Because you would totally die.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've seen what my cat does when I reach for his belly. You're a braver man than I to try that on her.

8 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

It's a trap! An adorable trap!

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Good luck with all that. We'll miss you

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My mom has this gross black cat who loves to have his belly rubbed. I've seen him get so into it that he's rolled right off the couch w/ joy

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Would play out differently than what you’re picturing in your mind & escalate quickly as the murder floof cradles your head in it’s paws

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

i wouldn't be able to stop myself

"There may only be 300 of us but while you take my picture, one of the other 299 is flanking your dumb ass." - Big Cat, probably.

Clever photogenic girl.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If that happened I really don't think he would have made it out alive.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

nah it was just a big kitten fluffy hug assault

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, obviously neither upside down cat or flanking cat did a damn thing to him.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

This! On the other hand, the big cat was very lucky, that he was one of the few friendly humans.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The comment said one of the other 299. Not all of the other 299

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

ah sorry

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is what the cat was ACTUALLY thinking "Is that a Threat? Nope not a threat. Am I Hungry? Nah. Should I kill it? Too much work.

8 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 1

That's pretty much what my house thinks. "I could kill you, but then I'd have to get my own food. Whatever, you can live I guess."

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

What kind of house do you live in sheesh

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

The worst kind, but you wouldn't believe the rent. I actually meant house cat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did you mean cat? Otherwise it sounds like you are the main provider of a household of sociopaths.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I think he meant "house cat" but assumed we would assume the "cat" part

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just missed the word cat.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ahh, I've never heard of a cat referred to as a house before, but that makes sense when you put it that way.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lions are in trouble but do we really need to anthropomorphise? She was just resting or playing there

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 8

That's why he said "I felt". He knows that she can't actually have complicated thoughts.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Doesn't mean a person can't have a "moment" and tell about it

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The problem with humans is they don’t care if you can’t make them feel something and they won’t feel something if you don’t express it in <

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

> human terms. If you want them to give a shit they have to relate.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is a problem in itself and should be eliminated, not accommodated.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'd love to hear your plan on how we eliminate human herd psychology and refocus to a purely logic based instinct and society.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

selective breeding

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Good luck with that. Humans can only truly understand from a human perspective because that’s what they are. No human can perceive the <

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

> world as a lion. Most humans have trouble understanding other humans perspectives, let alone other species.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Humans can understand the behaviour of other species without knowing to know exactly how they think, and thus avoid anthropomorphism

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a strange feeling the animal is not quite aware of the state of its species as a whole, or else it might have killed him to get-

8 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 19

Of course. Everyone knows the lion isn't that cognizant. The statement was for the benefit of the listeners' knowledge. JESUS. CHRIST.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

National Geographic is not a scientific magazine, just remember these guys are story tellers, and what’s wrong with that ?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Anthropomorphizing subjects is common among those who deal with wildlife.

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I trust their instincts over people that don't deal with wildlife. Our brains on an emotional level, are not very different.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Instinctual, not emotional. Not to say animals don't have emotions, but I find them vastly different from humans.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

revenge.

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 3

I bet you're a blast at parties

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 6

To the delicious meaty center that is the human lollipop.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, I like the story - but yeah, seems like it's projecting human emotions onto a creature that probably just wanted to play

8 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 5

You must be great at parties.

I don't go to parties, no one ever invites me! D:

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What it seems like is two people trying to feel superior. He obviously knows the cat doesn't understand, and even started with, [1/2]

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

"I felt". He's just rhetorically linking the story to the picture's usefulness for conservation. JFC, don't take everything so literally.[2]

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

you make a valid point and I will concede the point to you

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I mean, it's a nice sentiment and we should probably help out, but the whole "help me, you specific human!" seems kinda pretentious to me.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

How dumb do you think he thinks you are?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Shh.... settle down, friend. There's no need to be upset. People are allowed to think and believe things you do not think or believe.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I mean, they are so obviously wrong about the intention behind the man's statements, from any remotely objective point of view...oh well

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Thank you it’s so pretentious. This guy seems pretty douchey

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

The guy's a professional photographer trying to raise awareness about an endangered species. You sound like a shallow, judgmental douchebag.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

You sure are getting upset about an opinion on the internet, Disco.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

can you imagine the motor on that kitty?

8 years ago | Likes 662 Dislikes 2

Big cats can't purr. Kitties can either roar or purr, none can do both.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I want this so bad.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Am i the only one but i feel like i would need to pet the kitty at that point

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

300 kPur at least

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I misread that as "can you imagine motorboating that kitty". I feel dirty now.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

wait

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I don't think big cats can purr, sorry.

8 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 14

I thought lions roar and not purr.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cats can either purr or roar, not both. House (domestic) cats are the only ones that can breath while purring (I think).

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Cheetah's Purr! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drq_ww7Ytzw

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

D'aww. I want to cuddle them...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They can. However they cant breathe at the same time like house cats

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tigers whiffle

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They can but I think it's either only savanna lions or Bengal tigers can and the others dont. Another big cat species also can meow

8 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 1

cheetahs I believe can purr as well even though in many ways they're are kinda similar to dogs. correct me if I'm wrong.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mountain lions. Those are the only ones who can purr.

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Cheetahs purr

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
