I had a friend who was a stage actress. I asked her once if she could cry on command and how hard it is. She started bawling with actual tears and everything. I instantly went into panic mode and tried to comfort her and my own emotions were running away from me. She had to stop and laugh to tell me she was doing exactly what I asked. She would giggle and apologize anytime it would come up, because man I was totally bamboozled. EVEN THOUGH I JUST ASKED HER TO DO IT!

That's a very effective way of responding to a question but that's not the same as asking her to do it. You didn't. That was her choice to prove she could do it rather than answering the question. (At least not from the words you just used in your comment. Did you relay the actual event accurately?)

Speaking from a memory about 20 years ago, so being human it probably has lost any and all nuance. But yeah, I didn't technically ask her to do it. She chose to answer with a show me instead of a tell me. But I still feel dumb about it to this day.

But if you have some anger or disgust or (worst case) contempt for yourself, I would encourage you to remember what you just said. She apologized to YOU. Probably she felt responsible for her behavior as the one who chose to do acting rather than answering. She likely didn't expect you to believe her tears.

He nailed it too! By having the show and skit writers and team to help execute. Sure she carried the acting skills but the goal was to mini-prank the audience and they crushed it.
And I do agree with you btw - Maisie was/is fantastic. To me this is kinda like when we say we want one ānormalā person in Olympic events for reference. Guy has many many talents and obviously comfy in front of a camera but DANGGGG her watery eyes and shaky hands on demand were A++ work.

Or .. hear me out .. Jimmy is exactly who he appears to be, a fairly nice guy with some comedic talent who is dependable.
The late night circuit is divided into categories. Seth is the very intelligent one. Fallon is the nice guy people can identify with if they were in his spot. Kimmel is the smartass appealling to the common man in a mix of vulgarity and slapstick.
You say "actual talent" but it's jealousy, and Fallon isn't my favorite, but he delivers. I only watch Seth but they're all fun.

I dunno, he kinda comes off to me as fake in a lot of conversations and he tends to give canned feedback and responses instead of being spontaneous or adaptive. His excessive fake laughing sometimes feels like an uncomfortable stalling tactic when he doesn't know what to say. IMO, he seems much more comfortable when he does games and activities with people like his lip sync battles, I don't see him as a strong or interesting interviewer.

Critics frequently point to his prominent on-screen persona, specifically his often over-the-top reactions and "fake laugh," as inauthentic. He constantly provides shallow interviews, forced enthusiasm, and inauthentic/over exaggerated reactions. Its pretty cringe worthy tbh.
Quality late night in comparison: Craig Ferguson was awesome when he was on air. Stephen Colbert always delivers.
