As long as he didn't trap the calf in the gate to set it up, I'm cool with him making a video. My only critique is that I wish he tore all that long grass away from the gate-post before he left so the calves aren't tempted by that area again. But I can watch people being kind to animals all day.
Look, if I was going to put myself at risk of being trampled by cows, I'd want to leave behind video proof that I had a noble goal and wasn't just being all Hold my beer about it too.

Not soo dumb; my parents were cattle farmers and those cows taught themselves how to open taps and would also test to see if the electric fence was on my shoving another cow into the fence. They're just big dogs and so very very delicious.
Even when they arent getting themselves stuck in the weirdest way they do stuff like stubbornly licking your ear while youäre trying to put up a new box in the barn.
I once helped a rabbit stuck in a fence while I was waiting for the school bus. Found out from the younger kids whose bus came later that as soon as I set it down, it ran right back into the same fence.

No they usually aren't that docile if their calves are in distress. Protective cows regularily kill humans. He really had some balls just stepping over the fence so seemingly carelessly. Though, the cows did seemed pretty docile when he started. Maybe he has experience or he was just lucky and did underestimate the risk he put himself in. Still good job of him and i wish him all the best.
That'd be a big "it depends", lots of factors at play, but yeah cows can potentially be really docile. He did start out on the safe side of the fence though, so he got to see how the cows reacted to his rescue mission before committing to stepping over.
How does he automatically find the perfect place to put his phone down and manage to get the angle and distance perfect without even trying? I see these rescue videos here all the time and I admit they bother me. When I’m saving an animal in distress, my first thought isn’t to turn on the camera first, nor do I have someone with me who has nothing to do but film me.
It's maddening to see this very rehearsed positioning of the camera. He doesn't even check to make sure it's framed on the cow. Just sets it down, perfectly on 1st try, then goes to deal with the cow.
If the UPS guy recorded getting a nearby rock to use as a prop for the camera positioning and some jiggling to get it just right, then I'd believe it. Why record it? As proof that you tried to do something helpful for the desperate animal. A safeguard.
People who film a lot have those cases with a little stand in it, and if you practice using it enough, you get good at using it... as for why film yourself? So the farmer doesn't sue you or you otherwise get punished for helping.

Also, delivery drivers have very strict windows for being out delivering packages. He might have wanted this as proof to his employer for running behind schedule.

I know this setup isn't exactly the same, but if you're delivering hundreds of packages a day and now having to take pictures of all of them, I imagine you get pretty handy w your camera.
In this day and age, if I was helping and animal, I'd probably film it to have proof in case someone gets mad I did something. The farmer in this case, I guess.
