21. When Mulan snuck away to take her father's place she saw her parents extinguish the candle in their room and they totally banged.

One of the best movies and a great story that I personally feel was well done in the animated series. The music was great and really drove home a lot of the story. I’ll make a man out of you is so catchy and the video part just really lays in on how much better Mulan was at these “man” tasks. A perfect movie that I’m just glad they never made a live action for… yep totally glad they didn’t do one where they decided to not have any songs in it. Perfect how it is.

#5 Those aren't hidden Mickeys. An actual hidden Mickey uses the profile of the iconic Mickey logo, with the circles touching.

If I recall correctly, Eddie Murphy's song got cut because it was too raw. There was a real concern it would drive small children delirious

For anyone wondering

爷娘闻女来,出郭相扶将;阿姊闻妹来,当户理红妆;

小弟闻姊来,磨刀霍霍向猪羊。开我东阁门,坐我西阁床;

To be honest, I am still wondering. But its not you, its me.

Most of these are bullshit

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I think most of these are accurate, the voice actors are easy to check. Chris Sanders did voice Little Brother.

I know! Obviously there was no dog in Mulan

#19 Those are cherry blossoms. Her father even said, after her meeting with the matchmaker, about the cherry blossoms being beautiful, and recognizing the one that had not bloomed yet, and creating a very meaningful metaphor for Mulan being a late bloomer.

and yet they look more like magnolias >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnolia_liliiflora and also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hua_Mulan states that 木蘭 means magnolia ... searching for that again gives alot of magnolia pics. funny.

#1 Every extra line added to a cartoon character either ages them or makes them look more masculine. See the American Gothic ancestors just underneath, one simple line under the eyes becomes deep bags showing advanced age. So the fingernails are left off unless the character has big mitts which are a significant part of their overall appearance.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Was there a good reason for the nipples?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's also a case of animation oversight and/or using fingernails to further accent movement and shape of the hand. In "Honor to Us All", two characters have fingernails, but one has his fingernails vanish mid-motion when his hands change position. Moments later, the boys who steal a girl's doll have fingernails while the girl doesn't. - https://youtu.be/O2QJ5n1uQWU?si=C2tjl40tfN0HwYCD&t=69

2 years ago | Likes 441 Dislikes 4

So are the characters from the Alien franchise which means that the chestburster from Alien 3 that killed Ripley is the first and only Disney Princess to have ever killed her Prince(ss) Charming. One could even argue that ultimately it was her kiss that was fatal for Ripley.

In old french gangsta lingo 3 dots means "mort aux vaches" an equivalent of ACAB (that translates into death to cows). Seems made up now that I read it, I'm gonna check. Yep, confirmed : https://www.lalanguefrancaise.com/dictionnaire/definition/mort-aux-vaches Three dots to reveal a conflicted relationship to authorities.

Gimli: "Still only counts as one!"

2 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

Gimli said it only counts as one because despite being an impressive kill, the oliphaunt Legolas killed was still one individual. So his kill count only went up by one. Here, everyone on Alderaan died, so the kill count went up by about two billion.

Tarkin's kill streak gets claimed by Palpatine

2 years ago | Likes 88 Dislikes 0

palpatine also a disney character, right?

Tarkin to Palpatine:

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Krennic was such a petty character. But he was played really well by... whoever it was that portrayed him.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Orson Callan Krennic got shot in the head with the death star by Tarkin and the laser operators.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Debatable. Tarkin gave the order to fire, so IMO he's got the strongest claim.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

But Palpatine gave him the Death Star project

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's like saying the inventor of the AK-47 has a high kill count because of its high usage.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's more like the President of the U.S. approving a nuke launch compared to the General that gave the final command to press the button, the President is still completely responsible for the whole thing.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

You're both forgetting the sequels... One shot blew up like a whole solar system.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

What sequels? I don't recall any sequels.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Why not the laser operator? That's like saying a general giving orders to fire has a higher kill count than the men doing the shooting.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Laser operator didn't make the decision to fire, Tarkin did.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

THE OPERATOR FIRED THE LASER WHENEVER HE FELT DAMN READY TO!!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, but the operator pulled the trigger. Like I said, it's like if the general took credit for a soldier pulling the trigger and killing an enemy.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yess!! I came to say this! I started a screaming match at a whole bar trivia night by throwing this out there.

"Mistress Death" and "Kang" both have multiple whole universes under their belts, all Disney.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wow, Disney really is the destroyer of worlds, aren't they?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Always has been ...

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Depends on if it's worth distinguishing characters made by Disney vs. characters owned by Disney. That being said many of the characters Disney has "made" exsisted before the movies and are from fairy tales and other historical literature, so, I think this one goes to the Moff.

And his musical number was the greatest of all https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eT4shwU4Yc4

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To confirm a kill, there must be remains to count. Therefore tarkin has a confirmed planet destroyed count, but no body count

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Seems kinda arbitrary, considering “confirmed kills” aren’t a real thing in the military.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#6 the military probably forced her to fight right handed, most did.

2 years ago | Likes 212 Dislikes 1

She's also specifically writing cheat notes on her arm in that shot, which means it's not necessarily because she usually writes left handed. Might just be easier to read off her right arm

2 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 0

This was my first thought as well

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i feel like it was most likely an animation oversight than anything intentional. this list is kinda suspect since it called basically "any group of three dots not even connected to eachother" a mickey mouse reference

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

I visited a castle in Wales where the tour guide claimed that 7/8 towers spiraled one way, but the last one spiraled the other way and was manned by left-handed defenders, since lefties were approximately 1/8 of the population. No idea if it’s true.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I've heard somewhere that lefties are about 12% which is not too far from 1/8th. Although google says 10% but I guess it can vary depending on location.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Try writing on your right arm with your right hand, that is very difficult. Don't think that makes her left-handed. But yeah, people were mostly taught and trained to use their right hand, even if they are left-handed.

Neat! Also, the word you wanted is "medieval".

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I think he might have been high evil or possibly low evil

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Was the king average at being evil or an average king who was otherwise evil

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

It's an advantage, like a boxer, against people who aren't used to it. But it would mean less for a noble. The reason soldiers might be taught only righty is because they fight in formations, and shields on every man's left leave a path for every man's right to attack; weapons and armor for entire Arthur sometimes had design features like cutouts for a spear, that assumed certain weapons or formations.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Keep in mind that historians also thought people putting knives on rafters were getting them closer to the sun god to make them sharper, instead of keeping them out of the reach of children.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also I’m a left handed writer, but do everything else right-handed. We’re out there, it’s not that weird, they’re different actions requiring different muscles. XD

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Total made up by me thing that I totally believe...most lefties are a fair bit more ambidextrous than the righties.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lefty who was trained by the school system to be a righty. I write right-handed, switch hands depending on seating arrangement for eating, and do most of my job left handed except using my winch bar, I do that right handed. It's easier to stick to right for a lot of things where handedness determines tool shape, I can do either way about equally but stuff like scissors, unless someone hands me lefty scissors I might as well do it with my right and save the hassle.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm left dominant, but shoot right-handed, because my left eye's visibility is pretty shitty. I'd probably have trouble hitting the broad-side of a barn trying to aim with that eye.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I do not accept that literally any vague collection of 3 dots must be a "hidden Mickey" unless it's confirmed by the creators. People are hunting desperately for them like Jesus in their toast.

2 years ago | Likes 639 Dislikes 4

Or Jesus in their dog's butthole

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seconded, especially considering this specific kind of dappling and coloration is really commonplace. Hidden Mickeys are a thing, but this really doesn't seem like one of them

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One time I found a young Ben Kenobi on my toast.

2 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

But he's just some crazy old wizard that lives in the desert.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Especially on a grey horse that usually have dapples aka dots

2 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

It depends on the arrangement. A circle with two smaller circles above and to the sides is probably supposed to be Mickey ears

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It made me question the validity of the rest of the tbh

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

. . .

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know a guy works at Disneyland, and "hidden Mickys" are indeed a thing there. Threedots, a hairstyle with two buns, all sorts.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

Hidden Mickey's are absolutely a thing, but usually the circles at least somewhat resemble the classic Mickey symbol. In this case, the dots don't have a clear distinction between head and ears, so I'm inclined to think they don't count.

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Yeah, every hidden mickey I've seen has been clearly deliberate. These... not so much

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Eh could just be a stylistic choice. I doubt Mickey was big in China when Mulan came out.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't be surprised, though. It is kind of a thing they do.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

At least Jesus toast can be sold.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If Jesus toast was drawn from scratch by people employed by the Vatican then I'd be more included to believe it was an image of Jesus. The main reason it's a silly logical leap is that pattern came about through natural processes, a thing you can't apply to a cartoon

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My Jesus toast told me to kill Abe Lincoln, he was really upset when I told him that Lincoln died 159 years ago.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

#16 The scientist from Jurassic Park? Wasn't he on Law and Order for like 20 years?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

#2 What people don't realize is the people in the painting are father and daughter

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

The woman in the picture is the artists's sister, the man is their dentist. Those people were not related nor married. The interpretation of the picture itself and the artist's intent are open to interpretation though.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

In American Gothic, Grant Wood directly evoked images of an earlier generation by featuring a farmer and his daughter posed stiffly and dressed as if they were, as the artist put it, “tintypes from my old family album.” They stand outside of their home, built in an 1880s style known as Carpenter Gothic.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#1 Neither does Jasmine or Pocahontas or Aurora.. most of the Disney princesses I bet. Probably done to make their hands look more delicate and feminine.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It varies. Some characters have fingernails, others don't, and some characters gain or lose their fingernails mid-animation. For example, Li Shang doesn't have fingernails even when he's being shown flaunting his muscles, shirtless. Chi-fu, who is joked about for his unmasculine traits, has fingernails. Yao does have fingernails in most scenes, but loses them in others. Princess Jasmine, for another example, has fingernails in some scenes but loses them in others. It's a quirk of animation.

#5 not a fucking chance is that a mickey mouse

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

#3 could also happen if his eyes were glowing.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 5

Or, and get this, it's a cartoon!

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That's not how glowing works. Magic works. Transparent skull/eyes works. Laser eyes could work. Glowing eyes wouldn't work.

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Sure it would, it's just that his eyes would need to be as bright as the firelight and sunken enough into his head that the light didn't disperse outwards. So maybe "if his eyes were spotlights" would be a better description than just "glowing".

To see a similar effect IRL just point a laser pointer at your shadow, then imagine holding a bunch of laser pointers of identical strength and color as the light behind you.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

#8 but.... at the time she was doing the voice over, wouldn't the movie already be done and all?

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

Was going to say, I doubted they went back and reanimated for that

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

They'll usually record initial voice work on animatics or even just storyboards. The animators then work to capture the energy and "tone"

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh interesting, will have to look more into that process. I guess I figured the actors would act based on how the animation was done.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It does vary occasionally, like a lot of Anime is drawn then recorded (or used to be anyway?). Its cheaper/faster, but rougher looking.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I came to look for this comment.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Usually with animation, they create the story board and rough animation first. Then the voice acting and then the final animation. That way you can animate in little nuances that the actors provided in their roles.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

#6 That's what I do. Fine motor movement is lefty, most other with right

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Or because she's writing onto her right arm she needs to use her left hand. When it came time to write on the left arm ...

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Mulan uses chopsticks, pours tea, gathers her hair, and puts on her shoe with her left hand, and reflexively grabs moving items (a stolen doll, a thrown staff, etc) with her left (when other characters in the same scene vary using left, right, or both hands, so it's not just uniformity in animation). She's shown using both hands in dominant positions before and after the montage in "I'll Make a Man Out of You", so she was ambidextrous to begin with but left-hand dominant until after training.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow, you've studied up on Mulan

The reason this is near impossible to read in goofys voice is mostly because this isn't goofy's typical vocabulary. The inflections gotta be inferred too. And the pacing for the pronunciation is also really challenging. Ima take a wild guess and say this is copypasta text onto a goofy graphic.

While Smurfette is a creation of Gargamel, there actually is a village full of female Smurfs, with no males, in the movie (not the live action one), and the latest series takes this into account.

Exclusively male Smurfs are brought as babies by the stork, from an unknown source somehow associated with the moon (specifically the occasional blue moon). However, Papa Smurf and Gargamel have repeatedly demonstrated magic that forcibly transforms objects and other living creatures into Smurfs, even to the point of wholly rewriting their personalities and memories. Smurfs are naturally "born" in an unknown manner, but have the option of assimilating other akin to the Borg.
