I love the new way the laws work in USA. Trump can do whatever illegal shit he wants for months, and then finally the supreme court will say nah, then you have to untangle and reverse the months of illegal shit, super messy, and then he just finds a different illegal way to do the exact same illegal shit and we wait for months again. What a great system! Oh and also he can't be prosecuted even if it's clearly illegal as long as it's an "official act" which SCOTUS can define however they want.

Many people probably knew it already, but Trump has done an excellent job of demonstrating that the US political system is really only designed to function properly when all parties are operating in good faith. If the only real punishment for breaking a rule is public shaming and a slap on the wrist, the second someone with no shame shows up the system falls apart.

There were some mechanisms to prevent corruption, like the inspectors general, but apparently the richest billionaire in the world and some 20 year old programmers are allowed to just enter the government and fire all those people? Seems crazy.... if the executive can fire everyone and replace them with loyalists (or just not replace them and leave those offices empty) all these mechanisms were always doomed to fail.

I'm from the US too. I briefly looked at the ways to go about getting into Canada. Granted, it wasn't under refugee status because to the best of my knowledge there's no program that Americans would currently qualify for as a refugee. Who knows what will happen in the future. For the current time, be prepared to spend $30k+ USD and spend a year of your time going through the process. At least, that was for the avenue (skilled professional) I was looking at.
