So, there's this thing called the "societal default human" where society treats cishet white men as the default, aka the norm. And anyone else is an outlier. As a result a lot of things are claimed as "for everyone" when they're actively not.And are often harmful to everyone else.
And an example of it is the idea that language thats male coded is "gender neutral" and female coded is an outlier.But it's not.And that language can be harmful and exclusionary. It creates bias,even unintentionally.

100% like an example I’m ashamed of was today in a show I was watching they explored a trans characters story arc, it was really well done and felt natural and not forced but my instinctual reaction was to hiss n spit cause of soooo much that is shoved into stuff these days just for the sake of it. I’m pro trans and support them but I’ve been getting sick of forced things in shows ruining stories so even when it was really well done I naturally pulled back. Its very sad and I’ll try be better

You can manually set up slackbot responses to certain keywords. At my old work we used to prank each other by making puns or other replies on each other's names or even frequent phrases. You have a point for sure, though I think there's positivity in the general acceptance of society that guys is gender-neutral now. I understand if it irks women and non-binary folks to be referred to as a once-male term, and as a cis man, I'm not really in a position to pass comment. I just know how I use it, and I never think of it as gendered anymore. I'd stop using it if a human asked me directly, but not an AI messaging service.

Yeah! So,"guys is gender neutral" plays into the idea that men are the societal norm/default where women are outliers.This plays into society in a ton of ways, that range from annoying to deadly for women.
In the case of dude/guys, it simply adds to that implicit bias, which is not in itself harmful, but can contribute to harm. And since it is gendered women are then force to conform and accept something that directly excludes us to be included or be outsiders. Same concept as"man or political"

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of how seocity is using the word currently, and not on how the word is damaging. I agree that words and norms can cause damage. Damage that is easy to ignore when it isn’t happening to you. What seocity IS doing is what I was thinking about, what seocity SHOULD be doing is a much stronger argument.

Was more gendered of a term, right now it’s mixed use, and is probably moving to become fully non gendered. But that process can take decades if not longer, and as you pointed out, does lots of damage along the way. I was thinking too broad, measuring in 100’s of years, not thinking about the day to day life that gets dragged through centuries of mud to get there.
I guess it’s not that far away from when I was much younger and only a little less dumb, and thought that the f slurs for gay people
