As an architect we just designed a renovation for a teenager using this and I can’t tell you how noticeable the convenience is. The parents & nurses are all much happier. Ps they also have a double perpendicular track system (like in a 3d printer) that can take you to any part of the room not just like this linear track but it’s obviously a little more expensive.
The carpenter just needs to remove the header at the door to the bathroom so that the track can go through and of course make sure the track is well bolted to the ceiling joists above.
One of the elderly women who lived alone on the campus of the retirement community I used to work for had a similar system to this one installed in her house. The main difference being it had more of a child-style swing seat to protect her spine. Sometimes when I took her lunch to her I would drop it off on her table, and she would come swinging around the corner down the hall on the ceiling track with a completely stoic look on her face. One of the funniest things I've ever seen.

To lose that freedom and to regain it again. What a life changer. I really wish we didn't live in a shit world were everyone who needs this can't afford it.

My son's fiance needs this, he can't even work because he has to be her full-time caretaker. They had to get help to fix her powered wheelchair and her van is about to completely fall apart. I wish I was in a position to be able to help but the ex-wife's medical left me completely broke.
I might be becoming too cynical, but my immediate thought is how prohibitively expensive this mjst be and how the majority of people who benefit from this kind of support have no shot at receiving it...

We paid 10 thousand out of pocket for a power wheelchair for him and when that breaks down, more money. He lives in that chair and it's just a shame that we can afford 2 carrier strike forces in the middle east but people here go homeless and without proper medical/mental healthcare....

Check out offer up for used wheelchairs. I buy mine from there since it’s just easier than having to go through insurance and you can usually fine a good deal. Under $1k. A lot of these chairs can be easily modified by yourself as well

There's a psychological toll to just never being alone, and helpless when you are. Bad fight with a friend? Heartbroken? Embarrassed yourself? You don't get alone time to recover, you need to stop crying long enough for someone to lift you to the loo and clean you after, and that someone will stay in the next room waiting for orders, or doing your dishes, while you process your feelings. That must suck.
I love when technology improves quality of life for people with special needs. It can be so easy for companies to just focus on whatever will give them to biggest user base to sell too. It's seems like a really straight forward design too.
I hope it's easy to build, install and maintain. It does look simple which is the best thing about it. I'm sure it could be improved, it looks a bit uncomfortable under the arms. But it would still be such a massive improvement.
