I just watched an episode of ST: Strange New Worlds, with an exotic plant, spooky coincidence

He's crying because the smell hurts his eyes.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

We can just guess at the flower name. I’m going to say it’s a wingersobblesaum. Nice. Never seen one of those before.

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's a good thing there wasn't a little boy named Dennis around there.

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm happy for the guy but I wonder if there's a video with more crying amd less flower in it (?)

9 months ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 2

The flower gave me some Alien vibes!

9 months ago | Likes 116 Dislikes 2

Correct. It's a parasitic flower.

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Was thinking something similar. That flower Reminds me of the Omega in The Edge of Tomorrow.

This guy has been searching for a flower for 13 years! Meanwhile, I get pissy when I can't find my car keys.

There's no crying in botany.

9 months ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 3

As a botanist with some field experience, I can assure you there is. Usually not happy tears though.

9 months ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Audrey I is still out there.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

is Morticia there also ?

I have to admire the dedication of folks who would spend 13 years in the Sumatran jungle, dodging tigers and rhinos, sleeping alongside venomous scorpions, millipedes, and gigantic centipedes, not to mention the occasional Malayan krait who wriggles into your sleeping bag, all to find a rare stinky flower that makes you cry.
I'm glad somebody's doing it, cuz it ain't gonna be me.

A wild Vileplume has appeared. It used Pollen Puff. It was super effective!

Holy shit, imagine devoting thirteen years of your life to finding something and then finding that something. I'd be in tears too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafflesia

This is a parasitic flower, having no stem, leaves, or root system. The flowers can be over 100 cm in diameter and weigh over 10 kilograms.

So this plant was discovered but then forget because the informations was seized and censured by the british for 63 years ?! Why ??

9 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

He was French, which was reason enough for the British.

That flower looks like it would be deadly in a number of ways

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you are a Fly, then yes.
For a human, not so much, though I don't know if anyone has ever tried to eat one before.
Touching it at least won't harm you.

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Flies are its pollinator, so it would make little sense for the flower to kill them.

Is this the smells of death flower thingey?

9 months ago | Likes 213 Dislikes 2

He's crying because he found the makes you have diarrhea forever when you smell it flower.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's ONE of those flowers.

9 months ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I never realized that they were so rare. They seem to pop up in anything that is "jungle themed". I'm assuming this one is now in a museum in the UK?

I live near the St. Louis botanical gardens and I was very lucky (?) to see the one they have there bloom.

9 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Raflessia?

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, St Louis MoBot has the “corpse flower” Titan Arum not the Raflessia. They both smell like rotting flesh.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, it is. When I was a kid, the Cleveland Metropark's Zoo had recently opened its spectacular Rain Forest wing, and for a brief period they had one of these, and it made a whole like, 30x30 room stink. Granted, the whole wing was hot and humid, simulating the rainforest, but that thing in open air absolutely stunk.

lol thats funny, i feel bad for the other plants. under appreciated. nobody wants to go in the stink room.

I was just being a dick, but not intending meanness, just a retort to "see more," a horrible pun. I was trying to go along, yes-anding, etc
