I'm sure that looks like hot garbage up close. I've yet to actually see someone's freehand cutting in like that that's anywhere as clean and good as they think.
Why automatically assume they didn't discuss it? It could be a task they have planned to do, and he's just taking the time she's out of town to get it done as a surprise.
Because some people prefer this over using painters tape? I think getting good with tape is easier than cutting, especially if you use name brand tape.
I find it's the opposite. If I cut without tape I can see immediately if I make a mistake and wipe it away with a clean damp towel. The tape always has an imperfection somewhere and I won't see it until I'm done.
POV is a worthless addition to posts that only serves to confuse. There are many kinds of POV and the fact that posts often mix and match first, second, and third person with the camera angle, writing, and figurative POVs makes it a useless addition to any post its added to. Even this one is written in second person but filmed in first person. Please can we end it cause if you delete "POV" off of any meme that uses it is completely unchanged.
He doesn't show the end result because it shows wall paint all over the trim and countertops. It would have taken him 5 more minutes to do the job right and saved him 20 minutes of touch ups and cleaning
This is the end result. Just the edges. Paint style is called "the conservative"; only cares about colours at the borders, doesn't want to expend liquidity, can go horribly wrong because of missing tape and paperwork, and the endresult is shit no matter how expertly implemented because the basic premise is shit.
i don't mean legal possession.... People often lay claim to specific rooms of house to be customized to their liking. In our society its pretty common for the wife to lay claim to the kitchen. I don't give a fuck about trad wife culture. It is a common thing in our culture going back literally decades.
Don't jump to some conclusion over a very obvious occurance.
I'm not saying women belong in the kitchen. Its a pretty standard thing in our society for some women to take possession of it over a man. That said one of my fondest memories i have with my mother is spending months helping her design and remodel the kitchen. She also was a stress baker though so your milage may very. Quite literally would wake up to go to school smell pumpkin/banana bread and know i was expected to give out 12-16 loafs out at school. 1 for each teacher and others elsewhere.
Maybe I don't have an eye for design, but I was watching it very skeptical about how good the kitchen would look painted black. Kinda wanted to see if it worked or not, but I'm sitting here totally unsatisfied, so clearly there's more than one type of edging happening here.
As someone without a totally real and not made up wife, thank you for confirming that. I had no idea they reacted to things. That will prepare me for the future.
Maybe that *was* the end result? He got the edging done and then got bored and went off and did something else and then his wife was really mad when she got home?
If you are sufficiently skilled (as in this case) taping is definitely not required and is a wasted step in the process. Also, masking tape makes terrible lines that don’t conform to the imperfections between walls and ceilings and can often be more noticeable than a skilled painters cutting.
So...I literally just painted my house a few weeks ago. There's a fine point where you end up spending more time masking and I'm unmasking the wall, as well as fixing errors caused by the tape than you would just painting carefully with an edging brush... after the first room, I just got really good at using an effing brush carefully. Then I got pretty fast at using an edging brush well.
I promise you that's just a combination of you not knowing how to use and remove the tape properly, when to do it and it still isn't going to be as clean and crisp as a properly done taped job.
Agreed. In two years people are going to be panicking trying to find paint that'll cover all this stupid black. Ripping out cupboards that some bored dumbass decided to paint for no reason, trying to strip paint off bricks, etc.
shawnemack
This pisses me off because I wish I could do it
cusbuster
He hasn't bought masking tape since 2015.
Shouldhavethoughtthisthroughabitbetter
Cutting kn is definitely an art. Takes a ton of practice just to get good, let alone this good.
Tesaphine
Also I learned this only works if the walls are untextured.
cusbuster
I thought I was okay after doing a couple of houses. This guy has been doing this for years.

While filming it with their other hand too!

So you're only going to give us the edges huh? Not a single shot of the entire completed thing? Alright.
EntropyEJ
It's edging. You're not supposed to finish.
DaveSamsonite
It's designed to enrage you to engage you.
stronomer
That is extremely well executed and will be so amazingly too dark when it's completed.
DaveSamsonite
Super dumb to paint this way for so many reasons. Ugh. Use a drop cloth.
nopenopittynope2806
We get it. You’re an edgelord.

Turn that nice bright kitchen into a brown and dark room. That is definitely something you don't need to discuss with your partner.
lordnequam
Why automatically assume they didn't discuss it? It could be a task they have planned to do, and he's just taking the time she's out of town to get it done as a surprise.

Or she knows it is happening and this time was chosen since half as many people are being inconvenienced.

Kinda wanted to see the end result cause that is an awfully dark color to go to from the previous light color.

Wife’s out of town, edging all weekend!

Pfft, this guy doesn't even know about masking tape.
SquashDemon
When they didn't have tape
Titilve74
Plot twist : he/she only painted the borders and left it all like that..! 😘😬
taborgur
Is that a wife approved color?
eidam655
i guess we'll have to wait for part two
Whatsabrain
It's gonna make the kitchen look smaller. I doubt that's something the wife would be happy about.
ByThePowerOfSCIENCE
And darker from loss of indirect lighting. Dark kitchens are impractical and sad.
EstellaOsoka
This. So much this. If she didn't approve it, she will want it changed.
AllTheGoodOnesWereGone
So dark.
DaveSamsonite
Looks super ugly to me.
adventureswithadhd
At 21 sec, looks like he probably sprayed a fine mist of paint all over, flicking the brush off that wall edge. I don’t know how he couldn’t have…
MichelGoussu
I think they did it at least three times before.

In what way? The wife imagines this is how things get painted?

Thanks for helping people understand that the term Point of View predates Tiktok. They will not listen, however.
Thisisnot9gag
This stereotype "wife is controlling and husband is fun" needs to stop.
LeftRightThere
Ladies, this is what happens when you stop reminding your man every 6 months to do something and just give him some time get things done.
shardix
The wall partly painted and left that way for ten years? Yeah, that *is* usually what happens.

And you’re welcome

Exactly! I wanted to see if he left the edging, painted the rest, or made a mess of things later.

I'm more shocked we didn't get to see his wife screaming about him painting HER kitchen with out any of HER input.
noReallyIamPrincessBob
Oh stop. This is just a video demonstrating a skilled painter, and nothing else.

I'd assume they live together and therefore the kitchen belongs to both of them
